This idea is announced by Monica Năstase, a Romanian researcher who investigated the difficulty of translating realia words from Romanian into English. Realia are words and expressions for culture-specific items. As realia carry a very local overtone, they often represent a challenge for translators. They are born in popular culture, and are increasingly found in very diverse kinds of texts. In this paper we discuss the translation variants of such realia words as “colac”, “ie”, “mămăligă”, “horă” and “dor” from Romanian into English as they represent translatable lacunas and the interpreter has to be very accurate in transposing them into another language. It is about images, thoughts, dreams, fantasies and other forms of abstract mental representation. It is for this reason that the imaginary is widely used in literary creation, especially in the poetic works of authors around the world. The present study focuses on the analysis and synthesis of some definitions of the concept of imaginary, from the perspective of linguists, literary critics, translators, but also from sources such as dictionaries, in order to outline as clearly as possible, the essence of the given concept. We resort to a series of classifications of image types, starting from the interdisciplinary dimension of the given concept. For example, from the point of view of perception, we can talk about visual images, auditory images, tactile images, olfactory images, etc. This and other image classification possibilities proposed by various specialists will be presented in the next study. The chromatic elements analysis performed through the prism of the authors' biographies certain aspects impact on their literary works, allows us to affirm that existential problems, personal experiences, relationship with the socio-human environment have a noteworthy and suggestive importance for artistic creation, in general, and for the modality of a literary work main idea conveying to the reader, in particular. The chromatic elements active use corresponds, most of the time, to important stages in the writers' lives, to psychotypical traits manifested by them both in their daily and creative activities. Thus, language with its phraseological micro-universe is a very complex phenomenon, susceptible to evolution and change, which is very slow to develop and leads to the emergence of new words and phrases, syntactic structures parallel to the traditional ones. In its uninterrupted dynamic, it enhances the means it offers to express our ideas and feelings more clearly, concisely and expressively. It is well known that there are phraseological units with close meanings (synonymic phraseological expressions) and those with opposite meanings (antonymic phraseological expressions), phenomena that are widespread in the creation of the phraseological treasury stricto modo. In this article we will investigate the phenomenon of somatic phraseological antonymic series and in particular we are to lay emphasis on their common and specific features. We start from the hypothesis that the use of these somatic phraseological antonymic series allows us, on the one hand, to avoid cases of ambiguity of the lexical units themselves, and on the other hand, to identify either bipolar cultural ideas or concepts within a culture. Among the subjective factors of particular importance is the cognitive one, i.e., cultural, encyclopedic, and linguistic personality of the translator, since it is the translator who ensures the quality of intercultural communication and the degree of pragmatic, semantic and communicative transfer of the message from the original into the translation. At the heart of the researched topic is an attempt to examine, in a concrete pragmatic context, an antinomy that influences the choice of the translation strategy. This is the binomial constituted by the concepts of universal vs. relative and how they motivate the choice of the translation algorithm, especially of a literary text. The theoretical framework of the problem addressed is represented by the views Professor Eugeniu Coșeriu has about language, and about particular languages in a re-evaluation adapted to the translation process. A special value in this process is given to the primary universals of creativity, semanticity, otherness as well as to the secondary universals - historicity and materiality which are seen in the light of literary translation of languages belonging to different language families - Romance, Germanic, Slavic. In conclusion, we try to argue that there is no need, but it is rather beneficial to avoid categorical separation of conceptual and translation approaches, either from the perspective of universalism or relativism. At the heart of this problem is the concept of \"untranslatability\", where certain words cannot be directly translated because they carry meanings specific to a culture. The difficulties in translating these words are determined by both linguistic untranslatability (differences between the source language and the target language) and cultural untranslatability (differences between the source culture and the target culture). Examples of linguistic untranslatability would be the cultural terms that denote Moldovan holidays and customs. The corpus under inquiry consists of culturemes extracted from articles available on tourist websites: \"virtualtur.md\", \"moldovenii.md\", \"moldavie.fr\". The study examines different transfer processes used in translating these words, highlighting how translators face challenges related to cultural sensitivities. They resort to various procedures such as transliteration, borrowing, calque, contextual explanation or the use of a cultural equivalent in the target language to reproduce the original connotations as faithfully as possible. The research also looks at how these transfer processes can affect the quality and authenticity of the translation, highlighting the difficulties encountered in finding a balance between semantic fidelity and adaptation to the cultural context of the target language. Pretexts and Subtexts of Reflexivity.","authors":"Dragos Vicol, Valentina Andreea Popovici","doi":"10.54481/intertext.2023.1.15","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.54481/intertext.2023.1.15","url":null,"abstract":"After the end of the Second World War, concurrently with the massive arrests of intellectuals, the imposition of false notions and generally valid atheistic behavior, literature--and especially Romanian prose--faced a harsh ideological regulation, being given \"major objectives\" of combating the bourgeois-landlord scourge, on the one hand, and glorifying the unshakable alliance between the worker and the Soviet farm-worker on the other. Any deviation was severely rebuked from the very beginning, the literary censorship and political propagandists of the proletarian ideology would despotically control every sketch, story, short story, novel (alongside with their authors). Under such conditions, the theorization of the narrative model of the prose writer Fănuș Neagu can outline a critical synthesis image of the entire Romanian post-war prose--or of a spectrum as wide as possible--the lasting element of which is lyricism, as the main feature of the Romanian novel of that period, an epic species nourished artistically from the balladesque tradition of the folk literature, on the one hand, and from the \"taking over\" from and \"fitting\" to the narrative techniques of European literature, especially the French one as well. The rise in Romanian literature of Fănuş Neagu symbolized the \"necessary adjustment\" (Eugen Simion), the illustrious revenge in front of the totalitarian stigma, just as the debut of Ion Druţă in the ankylosing landscape of Bessarabian literature meant the proof of firm qualities of deep renewal of the undisguised epic, definitively abandoning the straitjacket of communist ideology.
