The concept received sustained scholarly interest in recent years, with attempts to link it with sustainability. However, studies highlighting the state of research and the dominant issues in agritourism remain scant. This bibliometric article closes this scholarly gap by presenting an overview of the perspectives from which scholars have approached the agritourism-sustainable development nexus. The aim is to understand the current state of research and dominant issues in the field. The article examines the number of articles on agritourism and sustainability, investigates the connections between authors and countries, and explores the dominant issues in the articles. The articles selected for analysis are identified in the Scopus database using ‘Agritourism’ OR ‘Agrotourism’ OR ‘Sustainable tourism’ as key terms. Data analysis was performed using the VOSviewer software. Content analysis was also conducted to determine the dimensions of sustainability that have ignited the most scholarly interest. The study shows that agritourism and tourism sustainability are more studied in developed than developing countries. It also shows that the economic dimension is more studied than the environmental and the social-cultural-historical dimensions. Future research may explore these sustainability dimensions to advance a more inclusive understanding of agritourism and sustainable tourism.</p></div><div><h3>Management implications</h3><p></p><ul><li><span>•</span><span><p>Firstly, the findings show that much of the enterprises that practice agritourism place much emphasis on the economic benefits accrued from the practice. This trend has become more apparent during the COVID-19 crisis, as individuals seek opportunities to recreate outdoors and away from crowded spaces. Along with this growth as an activity, MTB research is growing across many academic disciplines, from medicine to outdoor recreation and tourism research. Despite the growth in MTB participation and research, few to no publications have analyzed MTB research trends or identified areas for future research. We conducted a systematic literature review of peer-reviewed research published between 1993 and 2021 that focused on MTB. We qualitatively examined the qualifying sources (n=150) to better understand the history of MTB scholarship, parse topical and temporal trends, and identify areas for future contributions. In particular, we focused on how the managerial, resource, and social impacts of MTB are defined and discussed. Our results show that research on MTB is fragmented. We focus on where needs remain for cross and interdisciplinary work in eliciting and addressing impacts. We encourage researchers to fill in these gaps to support decision-making by land managers, recreation planners, and other decision makers. This systematic literature review works toward identifying the research gaps while advancing a research agenda related to MTB.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":46931,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Outdoor Recreation and Tourism-Research Planning and Management","volume":"46 ","pages":"Article 100748"},"PeriodicalIF":3.8,"publicationDate":"2024-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140542866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, studies about destination experiencescape for coastal tourism have received little attention. This study explored the components of coastal tourism destination experiencescape from the tourists' perspective. Meanwhile, this study discussed the internal relationships of the perception network from three levels: network nodes, transmission paths, and overall network. The results indicate that the destination experiencescape for coastal tourism can be conceptualized into seven dimensions: sensory, functional, social, cultural, natural, hospitality culture, and auxiliary components. A bidirectional interaction mechanism exists between these seven dimensions, constituting the network of destination experiencescape elements. Among them, the marine landscape, located in a prominent region, is the most influential element. This study reveals the structure characteristics of the destination experiencescape network for coastal tourism, which provides a reference for landscape planning and sustainable development of coastal cities.</p></div><div><h3>Management implications</h3><p>This study offers several practical implications for destination managers and marketers. Firstly, destination managers should not only pay attention to the maintenance of prominent regions, such as natural and architectural landscapes but also pay close attention to the construction of ordinary areas, such as intangible culture and service quality. Secondly, in addition to identifying prominent elements in the experiencescape, destinations need to optimize the overall network structure of the experiencescape to maximize network efficiency. Lastly, destination marketing organizations should comprehensively consider the strengths and weaknesses of tourism resources, stimulate the development of ordinary regions driven by prominent regions of the experiencescape.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":46931,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Outdoor Recreation and Tourism-Research Planning and Management","volume":"46 ","pages":"Article 100747"},"PeriodicalIF":3.8,"publicationDate":"2024-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140534871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An understanding of the broad values and behavior of people responsible for the inadvertent spread of aquatic invasive species can inform efforts to mitigate environmental impacts and enhance people’s experiences in the outdoors. However, there are polarized levels of trust held in regulatory communities that can influence how people draw on their core belief systems when making decisions. Therefore, we examined how values worked in conjunction with trust in the regulatory community to predict pro-environmental behavior using data from a state-wide survey of recreational boaters in Illinois, USA. Results from a latent variable structural equation model suggested that intentions were positively and negatively predicted by biospheric and altruistic values, respectively. We also observed that boaters instilled high levels of trust in the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and scientific communities; however, more pronounced relationships between values and behavior emerged for respondents who were more trusting. We contend that values serve as a dependable basis for the development of long-term management strategies given that they are unlikely to change over time, but the translation of these values to behavioral performance depends on trust as an intervening factor.</p></div><div><h3>Management implications</h3><p>This study sought to understand how polarized levels of trust in regulatory institutions including resource managers and scientists affected outdoor recreationists' intentions to carry out environmentally beneficial behaviors. We found that water-based recreationists' intentions to mitigate the spread of aquatic invasive species were partially explained by their broad values that reflected their deeply seated perspectives on human-nature relationships. We also found that these values more effectively predicted behavior when trust was higher. These findings suggest that management agencies that are more trusted may have a greater ability to anticipate whether their constituents will perform prescribed behaviors to benefit the environment based on their deeply held values.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":46931,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Outdoor Recreation and Tourism-Research Planning and Management","volume":"46 ","pages":"Article 100745"},"PeriodicalIF":3.8,"publicationDate":"2024-04-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140535897","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, research examining the impact of these experiences in occupational contexts is limited. Through an in-depth case study research design, this study explored the experiences of nine employees while participating in a five-day OA-based programme. Data were collected through psychological capital (PsyCap) questionnaires administered before and 1-week after the programme, visual analogue scales and audio recordings completed during the programme along with participant observations by a researcher, and qualitative interviews conducted 8 weeks after the programme. Participants reported a mean increase in PsyCap scores, indicating the programme's positive impact on individuals' self-efficacy, resilience, optimism, and hope in work specific contexts. Additionally, the themes identified through the qualitative data suggested that employees and the team experienced a deep sense of accomplishment, shared success, and developed desirable attitudes towards teamwork. Employees also reported an enhanced sense of psychological wellbeing through connecting with natural environments and stepping away from the demands of the workplace. Findings shed light on the value of outdoor experiential forms of learning as an alternative to more traditional occupational training programmes in promoting desirable psychosocial outcomes in workforces.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":46931,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Outdoor Recreation and Tourism-Research Planning and Management","volume":"46 ","pages":"Article 100761"},"PeriodicalIF":3.8,"publicationDate":"2024-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S221307802400029X/pdfft?md5=2f9cd9bcaed1d476eecca5100d6907ef&pid=1-s2.0-S221307802400029X-main.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140534869","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using a signaling-theory framework, this study investigates the possible moderated mediation effect of recreation safety climate (RSC) on the interrelationship of serious leisure, recreation involvement, and flow experience. The results of a survey of 353 recreational scuba divers at a popular diving site in Kenting, southern Taiwan showed that recreation involvement mediated the relationship between serious leisure and flow experience. We further found that RSC significantly and positively moderated a serious leisure - &gt; recreation involvement - &gt; flow experience model: i.e., that recreation involvement played a strong role as a mediator between serious leisure and flow experience because RSC was high. As well as highlighting the importance of RSC, this study contributes to the body of knowledge on recreational safety, and provides recreation operators with guidelines for RSC implementation.</p></div><div><h3>Management implications</h3><p>Specifically, low recreation safety climate signals tend to reduce the power of recreation involvement as a mediator. However, existing research focuses on passive perceptions and lacks comprehensive insights into the dynamic relationships between smart park services and user interaction. To address this gap, this study aims to discuss classification standards for smart service facilities in urban parks, develop a research model to analyze visitor usage patterns, identify factors influencing their continued engagement with smart parks, and rank visitors' recognition of smart service facilities within parks. Using Lianhuashan Park, Shenzhen, as a case study, structural equation modeling was employed to validate visitors' intentions to continue using the smart park. The findings revealed that expectation–confirmation indirectly affects visitors’ intentions by mediating variables such as satisfaction, perceived usefulness, ease of use, and privacy. Perceived ease of use emerged as the strongest influence. Among the five categories of smart park service facilities, landscape interactive facilities had the highest correlation with the overall smart technology experience in parks. This study proposes a new theoretical research model, identifies directions for optimizing service quality in smart parks, and addresses the limitations of previous studies that focused on technology while neglecting user experience.</p></div><div><h3>Management implications</h3><p>The management of smart parks involve a variety of disciplines including IoT, big data statistics, ergonomics, remote sensing science, etc. It requires the cooperation of multidisciplinary personnel, which greatly increases the difficulty of facilities management in the smart parks. Moreover, the smart park system is not perfected enough, lacks certain theoretical support, and there are few excellent cases. This research applied the ECM-ISC extended model to the field of smart park research, which will help promote the user-friendly and sustainable development of smart parks and provide visitors with a more comfortable environment and better services. This has resulted in congestion and particular stress on managing authorities of green natural spaces. This study examines drivers for outdoor recreation, across UK sites, for a representative sample of the English population during lockdowns and the easing of restrictions. Using a travel cost approach, this study focuses on addressing demand heterogeneity through a finite mixture model and cost sensitivity and finds that the characteristics of green and natural spaces English respondents visit are not always affecting trip frequency. Additionally, social inequalities and deprivation do not influence or had an inverse effect on demand for visits to UK green and natural spaces. When accounting for heterogeneity, a large variability in the frequency of visits is observed, with frequent visitors being less sensitive to changes in travel cost. Finally, we find that UK residents are less responsive to changes in travel cost that could be caused by increases in petrol prices, or in changes in their income. Future management decisions for green natural spaces need to account for the differences between casual and frequent outdoor recreationists.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":46931,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Outdoor Recreation and Tourism-Research Planning and Management","volume":"46 ","pages":"Article 100758"},"PeriodicalIF":3.8,"publicationDate":"2024-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2213078024000264/pdfft?md5=62edfa654e4c048fd3b5fb78c8e82be6&pid=1-s2.0-S2213078024000264-main.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140290690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Emerging policy and practice also indicate a need to better understand how local communities benefit from recreation trends on public lands, including whether visitors engage with community services as part of their recreation experience. The research presented here utilized an intercept survey of recreationists on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands in southeastern Idaho to explore how recreation benefits relate to intended future visits. We also focus on the importance of desired community benefits resulting from recreation on nearby public lands, which are noted as understudied components in recreation literature. Results indicate that higher levels of desired personal, community, economic, and environmental benefits correlate with greater likelihood of returning to the study area, though only community benefits remained significant when controlling for all benefit categories. We also found significant interactions between recreationists' desired community benefits and desired environmental benefits, and between desired personal benefits and desired economic benefits. Desirability of four recreation benefit categories differed significantly among visitors to the two adjacent BLM planning units sampled as part of the research. In sum, our results suggest that desired community benefits may influence distinct, yet important components of recreationists' overall experiences. We suggest a need for in-depth assessments of local and nonlocal recreationists' desires for area community benefits, as these benefits may significantly influence other aspects of visitor needs, including intentions to return to public lands.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":46931,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Outdoor Recreation and Tourism-Research Planning and Management","volume":"46 ","pages":"Article 100735"},"PeriodicalIF":3.8,"publicationDate":"2024-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140209077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
