Image analysis was done on the forty one (41) landmarks of the face. Landmarking was done in three replicates making sure that one session is well spaced from another to minimize bias. The pooled data were fed into the SAGE program, which performed Principal Component Analysis, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Procrustes Fit. Results revealed a higher fluctuating asymmetry in hypertensive male subjects compared to the non-hypertensives. This is further supported by the differences shown by scatterplot analysis.","PeriodicalId":437476,"journal":{"name":"Journal of medical and bioengineering","volume":"175 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132357017","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Segments of data of accelerometer and surface EMG signals are used with different wavelet bands for the idea of discrimination of Parkinson tremor from essential tremor. The data used are from the University of Kiel, Germany. The data are 41 training subjects: 21 with Essential-tremor (ET) and 19 with Parkinson-disease (PD). Another 40 subjects of test data have 20 PD and 20 ET subjects, are used to test the technique. In this study three different data segments, each with its best fit wavelet band for each signal are selected. Then, a two-stages voting between the results is obtained. The discrimination efficiency on test data resulted 100% sensitivity, 85% specificity and 92.5% accuracy. ","PeriodicalId":437476,"journal":{"name":"Journal of medical and bioengineering","volume":"186 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133417014","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This antenna uses sub Nano second electric pulse for radiating on the skin. This way of treating cancerous cells ensure very less radiation on the normal part of our body. The successful Antenna is designed, so that it could be adjusted for any part of human body. High gain is achieved by reducing spacing between the solid plates (Reflectors) of the antenna. The design provides a new way of treating skin cancer, which assures better treatment than the rest one due to its effective focus, good directivity and effectively treats deep-seated tumours. Simulation of designed antenna using Antenna magus version 3.3.0and its observed parameters are open in this paper.","PeriodicalId":437476,"journal":{"name":"Journal of medical and bioengineering","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133951967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Doing so, the critique will be on the basis of fractional mathematics along with chaos theory in two-hundred-and- fifty sick individuals who had heart-failure for the duration of twelve months. In fact, this scholarly work applied a number of non-linear methodologies, encompassing: Approximate-entropy (ApEn), FD (Fractal-dimension, and DFA (detrented fluctuation-analysis). In this scholarly work, fractal dimensions as well as the properties of fractal correlation will be employed in reflecting neuro-anatomic interaction that has been altered, which may prejudice the severe heart failure to start developing. The findings apparently portrayed that the quick-fix fractal scaling- component was appreciably lower in those individuals who had heart failure. Research has found a certain relationship between the breathing with cardiac arrhythmias signal. Moreover, those individuals with heart- failure had a lower approximate-entropy but their fractal- dimension was higher which impacted positively on the new- fangled therapy. ","PeriodicalId":437476,"journal":{"name":"Journal of medical and bioengineering","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131855967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a very sweet, moist, soothing herb that detoxifies and protects the liver. It also has a powerful anti-inflammatory action and also finds applications in arthritis and mouth ulcers. In the present study, antibacterial activity of Glycyrrhiza glabra root and leaf extracts were tested against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Entereobacter cloacae and Klebsiella sp. using agar well/disc diffusion assay. The extracts obtained by cold maceration method and Soxhlet method could not inhibit the test bacteria. Both the leaf and root extracts prepared using reflux extraction method exhibited strong antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. However these were found to be ineffective against Enterobacter cloacae and Klebsiella sp. The MIC of Glycyrrhiza glabra roots were 3μg/ml and 1μg/ml for E. coli and P. aeruginosa, respectively. The phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of tannins in leaf and root extracts and the concentration was found to be 3.161 and 2.455mg/ml, respectively at 530nm. This could be the possible explanation for the inhibitory effect of the extracts against the test organisms. ","PeriodicalId":437476,"journal":{"name":"Journal of medical and bioengineering","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134521093","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These techniques allow reduction in fibre diameters by increasing jet attenuation rate. Two experiments were carried out to see the effect of heat on ethyl cellulose fibre diameter. Different concentrations of ethyl cellulose in solution were prepared using a binary solvent system of ethanol and de-ionised water. The optimal concentration of ethyl cellulose was investigated along with parameters such as voltage and flow rate which can be used for electrospinning. The heating provided by the air stream via the co-axial needle generated thinner fibres (diameter up to < 1 μm), as compared to the heated needle electrospinning (diameter < 10 μm).","PeriodicalId":437476,"journal":{"name":"Journal of medical and bioengineering","volume":"146 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132028723","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The importance of identifying MoRFs in disordered proteins is becoming increasingly apparent. So far, only a limited number of experimentally validated MoRFs is known, and there are few specialized tools for identifying MoRFs. Existing methods used many predicted results, such as predicted disorder probabilities, solvent accessibility and B-factors as features for prediction, or used MoRFs database directly for alignment to assist the prediction; however, their design are complex, and the performance is also affected largely by other predictors. In this study, we proposed a novel method, named as MFPSSMPred (Masked and Filtered PSSM based Prediction), which adopts a masking method to extract high local conservative features, and a filtering method to filter out low local conservative scores in position-specific scoring matrix (PSSMs) for prediction. All features are extracted from the sequences only. We compared our method with a traditional PSSM-based method and 9 other existed methods on a same test dataset. The experimental results showed that, our method achieved the best performance with AUC of 0.758. This study demonstrated that: 1) the flanking regions of MoRFs affected the plasticity of MoRFs; 2) MoRFs were flanked by less conserved residues; and 3) the revised PSSM was predictive features for identifying","PeriodicalId":437476,"journal":{"name":"Journal of medical and bioengineering","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116543523","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of its high levels of uniformity and purity, BC has unique physical and mechanical properties for applications in biomaterials. In this study, sample cellulose was prepared in advance from Gluconacetobacter xylinus under static cultivation. After the provision of hydroxyapatite was executed using dicalcium phosphate dehydrates and CaCO3, BC was introduced in the alkaline solution at 55°C for further reaction. Regarding mechanical strength and endotoxin evaluation, the biocomposite of BC and hydroxyapatite yielded stronger results after the addition of 5% BC. The compressive resistance of the trial product reached approximately 141.36 MPa, and the endotoxin level could be reduced to 0.3 EU/mL if the raw biocomposite was sintered using alginate as a hardener at 1200°C for 1h. With its high level of compressive resistance and low level of endotoxins, the proposed biocomposite material has great potential for employment as a filling material.","PeriodicalId":437476,"journal":{"name":"Journal of medical and bioengineering","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114934725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Method: Thirty four units of WB were stored overnight at 20 to 24oC and processed on the following day, and 30 units of WB were processed immediately. Result: The volume of PCs from overnight-held WB on Day 1 was significantly lower. On the same day, the PCs were significantly lower in platelet count but by Day 3 and Day 5, the difference was disappeared. PCs made from overnight-held WB had a significantly higher total red blood count on Day 1, Day 3 and Day 5, and for total white blood count was significantly higher on Day 5. pH was significantly lower on Day 1, Day 3 and Day 5. Sterility test for both groups of PCs give negative results. Conclusion: PRP-derived PCs from overnight-held WB have significantly different in vitro variables as from freshly processed WB. However, based on one-sample t-test comparison with the quality requirement of PCs, the use of the PCs from overnight-held WB was possible as the results of volume, platelet count and pH were significantly higher than the quality requirement and specification. ","PeriodicalId":437476,"journal":{"name":"Journal of medical and bioengineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116143783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
