Devkota","doi":"10.3126/amcj.v3i1.45468","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3126/amcj.v3i1.45468","url":null,"abstract":"This study was carried out to explore the connection between science and religion especially focused on students' views and understanding of evolutionary concepts of biology at the secondary level. To find out the students' views and understanding of evolutionary concepts in connection with science and religion, a mixed-method design was used consisting of 50 participants of five secondary schools in Kathmandu Metropolitan City. The random sampling method was used for student selection while purposive sampling was used for schools selection. A five-point Liker scale, concept understanding inventory, and interview guideline tools were developed. The tools were validated for the collection of data. Thus, the gathered data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and thematic explanation. From the analysis, it was found that religion and science are continued debatable subjects in philosophy and theology till now. It also provides a philosophical analysis of how they interrelate with each other. The majority understanding of students has been found to be in conflict, science supportive, religion supportive, coalition, contrast, and supplementary views between science and religion towards evolutionary biology. This study concludes that students have common sense, content and nature of science, non-science, and dialect-based misleading as well as corrected understanding about evolutionary biology. In this context, this study focuses to explain how does culture work in schooling of Nepal. In so doing, interpretive research design has been used to determine the relationship between schooling and culture, with the experiences of secondary level teacher. Purposive sampling technique has used to select sample population and schooling inventory practice and culture inventory of a society were supervised to the school teacher through the pen-ended interview. This research found positive and significant relationships between schooling and culture. Culture of society can be used by the educators to select the content of school curriculum, learning materials, and methods for communication to student and education as a supportive role to conservation and reformation of culture to a society. The school education mainly dominated by universal culture what Banks called “popular culture”. Further, the exiting schooling limited to the superficial culture of a society rather than the assumption of critical and social action approach of Banks. Therefore, such kinds of schooling can provide general information about the society but does not empower pupils about why do they are behaving different way to the different group of people. In semester system the total educational activities are based upon the project basis. This study aimed at exploring the perceptions of faculties about the semester system adopted by a Tribhuvan University (TU) affiliated college in Nepal. It also dug out the faculties' experience of pedagogical transformation in higher education. For the sake of their world views, an interpretive paradigm was employed. In this philosophical orientation, subjective reality is an ontological position and multiple realities are epistemological standpoints. This study employed qualitative research method. Narrative inquiry was chosen as the research design. Four participants from the TU-affiliated colleges had been taken purposively from the campus located outside the Kathmandu Valley. An in-depth interview was conducted with research participants in their natural settings without any interruption. The result revealed that the faculties' perception of the semester system was diverse in nature. The student behaviors, faculty behaviors, and unpreparedness of teachers and administration seemed to be more challenging and unfruitful. The effectiveness of the semester system can contribute not only to pedagogical transformation but also to global knowledge. The objectives of this research are to explore how teachers are continuing their learning during the long lockdown period when they are formally detached from face-to-face teaching and learning and what alternatives of schooling for the children the teachers are exploring during the lockdown. This research follows the online survey design with a positivist worldview of the facts. This research follows a simple random sampling method for choosing the population who are the teachers teaching in Dhading. This research employed close-ended questions asked online and the data are analyzed by using SPSS. The researcher found that theCOVID-19 and the lockdown, despite its direct effect on regular teaching and learning, has not fully deteriorated the teachers' learning but they have made innovations in learning methods and their horizons. This study also proves that the teachers have got more benefits from their colleagues and professional unions, and they have got a good opportunity of learning information communication technology (ICT), new pedagogy, and the contents of their subject matters. This research suggests that the online prospect is the best one for students and teachers to get access over the big horizon of teaching and learning. Teachers have understood it as an opportunity for innovation.
