Yet exactly for this reason, users of a highly heterogenous network cannot use multicast. This problem in present multicast is solved by setting the transmission speed to the lowest among the available capacities of links in the multicast tree. Some side effects of this is the increase of data transmission time and therefore efficiency and real-time-based performance suffer. This paper proposes an adaptive content delivery system over multicast trees and discusses its implementation. Considering some limitations of real network, this paper proposes the use of link capacity measurement. Adaptiveness is based on the measurement and can trigger temporary storage of data in case the discrepancy is found among downstream links originating from the same node.","PeriodicalId":434986,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE Region 10 Conference TENCON 2004.","volume":"150 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122466722","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Freely available open-content materials that enable and promote both local customization and further development by a community of educators offer a fresh approach to lab text development that can surmount these barriers. In this paper, we overview a joint effort under the aegis of the Connexions project to develop a large pool of DSP lab modules sufficient to serve as a complete, stand-alone text for several types of DSP lab courses. In addition, we introduce a pilot project whose aim is to demonstrate the suitability of using Connexions for languages other than English, such as the Japanese, Chinese and Thai languages.","PeriodicalId":434986,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE Region 10 Conference TENCON 2004.","volume":"365 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132913875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By applying the synthetic fuzzy inference algorithm, the relationship between input and output of FLC can be effectively stored in a memory-limited lookup table (LUT). As a consequence, the controller can be efficiently implemented on a low-cost 16F872 RISC microcontroller. The proposed controller is integrated with a boost converter for realization of a high performance solar-powered battery charger (SPBC). Simulations with practical parameters show that our proposed MPPT using FLC implemented by LUT outperforms the conventional MPPT controller in terms of tracking speed. Moreover, preliminary experimental results are presented.","PeriodicalId":434986,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE Region 10 Conference TENCON 2004.","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115123199","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a selection of guard bandwidth coefficients of the call admission control (CAC) scheme for the asymmetrical traffic case in mobile multimedia communications based on the framework of game theory is proposed. The proposed scheme provides fairness and efficiency in the aspect of quality of service (QoS) for the 2 classes of traffic, and also guarantees the priority of class 0 calls over class 1 calls. The efficiency is provided by the Pareto optimality requirement while fairness is achieved by satisfying the concept of equilibrium point and arbitration scheme. Moreover, the way to generate the Pareto boundary is demonstrated. The numerical results show that the Nash solution with the point (0,0) as the starting point can achieve higher total utility than that of the equilibrium point.","PeriodicalId":434986,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE Region 10 Conference TENCON 2004.","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115150068","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the most commonly used methods for capacitance extraction problems is the method of moments (MM). In this study, the forward-backward (FB) method, which is an iterative MM, is applied for solving these problems effectively. It is found that the method is an O(N/sup 2/) algorithm per iteration, where N is the total number of unknowns. In addition, the FB method provides accurate results compared to those of the standard MM with less computational times for relatively large problems. Convergence characteristics of the FB method are also studied in this paper.","PeriodicalId":434986,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE Region 10 Conference TENCON 2004.","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115426851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the wide use of color in many areas, the interest on the color perception and processing has been growing rapidly. In this paper, a new approach to color morphological transformation, as an extension of mathematical morphology from gray-scale image to color image, is proposed based on HSL (hue-saturation-lightness) color space. New basic color morphological operators are first defined, and new composite color morphological operators, including color morphological filters with multiple structuring elements, and color morphological multi-resolution analysis and synthesis, are constructed. Then their properties are discussed. Experimental results show that the proposed color morphological operators can be efficiently used in color image processing, encoding and feature extraction.","PeriodicalId":434986,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE Region 10 Conference TENCON 2004.","volume":"552 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123101416","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recent studies have concluded that the process of acquiring the UWB signals can be expedited by the presence of multi-path. Acquisition analysis is made here by a generalized signal flow graph approach which allows for an arbitrary search pattern and a multiple detection scenario generated by the multi-path. It was shown in E.A. Homier et al. (2003) that the bit reversal search becomes to a near optimal search technique. The alternate bit reversal search proposed in this paper per-forms very closely to the bit reversal search, which can be substituted for the parallel search method of two correlator and reduce the cost of complexity.","PeriodicalId":434986,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE Region 10 Conference TENCON 2004.","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116961894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
