(Phasianideae). Je tente de cerner comment ce nouvel animal va s’introduire et s’implanter dans les langues, a travers la terminologie, dans le savoir scientifique, et dans les usages et les pratiques en vue de preciser les etapes de son acceptation jusqu’a son inclusion dans le corpus alimentaire europeen. Pour cette enquete on analyse chronologiquement les temoignages ecrits successifs, c’est-a-dire les archives qui ont pu etre revelees par des historiens, et surtout les livres (de cuisine, d’agriculture, dictionnaires), afin de mettre en evidence les etapes de l’adoption du dindon dans notre civilisation europeenne (Espagne, Italie, France et Angleterre).","PeriodicalId":424145,"journal":{"name":"Revue d’ethnoécologie","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131274465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

That is the case of allspice, the fruit of the Pimenta dioica (L.) Merrill, a native tree to tropical forest in Mesoamerica that eventually became highly valued as a spice in global markets. For this study we trace the trade history of allspice and describe some common current traditional practices for harvest and commercial production strategies. Initially confused with other pepper-like spices, allspice was partially marginalized during the first two centuries of Spanish colonization, but later support from the Spanish Crown helped it to become actively traded beginning in the 18th Century. In Guatemala, its region of natural distribution, allspice is still produced following traditional techniques and is commercialized in local markets, although there are well-established large-scale producers in Mexico that export it. The present study aims at integrating experiences over time and under various conditions, from history and present days, to provide a better understanding of the elements that contributed to the resurgence of allspice from being a marginalized crop to one prized worldwide. We conclude that allspice survived the vicissitudes of colonialization partially due to government intervention, and eventually became a valuable commodity, even in our days.","PeriodicalId":424145,"journal":{"name":"Revue d’ethnoécologie","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131002698","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Karibuhoye","doi":"10.4000/ethnoecologie.5855","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4000/ethnoecologie.5855","url":null,"abstract":"The mangrove ecosystem is one of the most productive in Casamance and the most important biomes in Senegal. This threatened ecosystem is found on the banks of Casamance river and along its tributaries, known as the bolong or inlets. The importance of the mangrove ecosystem results from its biodiversity and its ecological, economic and socio-cultural in particular functions ritual places, totem cockpit, etc. The Lower Casamance mangroves are the site of diverse traditional representations and activities of the Joola society, including prohibitions on the cutting of mangroves and seasonal restrictions on the harvesting of oysters in restricted access. We conducted research designed to understand the practices associated with the use of mangroves by the Joola society. The methodology we used is a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches. Semi-structured informal and individual interviews, as well as field observations were carried out. The results of our research show that mangroves are considered sacred by the Joola and that the practices they conduct in these areas are governed by very strict and traditional rules. These practices are animated by various representations that crystallize their behaviors in totems, taboos, rituals and the sacredness of natural spaces. However, with the adoption of monotheistic religions notably Islam and Christianity, certain prohibitions and beliefs that have preserved these spaces are disappearing and that mangroves are deteriorating. Therefore, traditional methods of in situ conservation must be preserved in order to ensure the protection of mangrove ecosystems. This article highlights the importance of Joola customs and practices and reviews traditional methods that have favored the conservation of parts of the mangrove.","PeriodicalId":424145,"journal":{"name":"Revue d’ethnoécologie","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130219779","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
