Para ello, comparamos la descripción de los sonidos realizada por personas ciegas y personas videntes ante el mismo contenido audiovisual. El objetivo es demostrar que las personas ciegas poseen un mayor desarrollo del sentido del oído y, por ello, pueden ayudar a mejorar el proceso de subtitulado para personas sordas, puesto que, ante la ausencia de un sentido primordial, se produce una compensación sensorial que potencia unos sentidos ante la carencia de otros (Moreno-Juan et al., 2017). El análisis muestra que existe una diferencia importante entre los sonidos que resalta cada colectivo, así como en la forma en la que cada uno realiza la descripción de estos y se detiene en especificar los sonidos que resultan más complejos.","PeriodicalId":42374,"journal":{"name":"Sendebar-Revista de Traduccion e Interpretacion","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136116763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two MA students in Egyptology at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and three recent graduates of the same MA programme took part in the study. They translated two excerpts from two Middle Egyptian literary texts into Spanish. InputLog was used to collect translation-process data and derive word-level indicators of cognitive effort from them: typos per word, word typing speed, and within-word pause. Results showed a clear link between default translations and cognitive effort (low number of typos, low number of respites, and fast writing speed). However, the assumption that deviations from literality cause greater cognitive effort was not observed. Hence, default translation may serve as a more adequate construct to describe the regular way translators perform.","PeriodicalId":42374,"journal":{"name":"Sendebar-Revista de Traduccion e Interpretacion","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136112944","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Para desarrollar estos irrealia, se emplean procesos de lexicogénesis de forma y de sentido que utilizan rasgos morfosintácticos y connotativos para caracterizar ciertos aspectos de dicho universo. Este estudio tiene como objetivo analizar dichos procesos de lexicogénesis en la saga The Wheel of Time mediante lingüística de corpus, con el fin de identificar rasgos y connotaciones comunes en las facciones del Bien y el Mal, los procesos más empleados y las limitaciones de la lingüística de corpus para la investigación en traducción literaria. Los resultados confirman que los procesos de lexicogénesis más empleados son la creación ex nihilo, la composición y la creación metafórica, con rasgos morfológicos diferenciados para cada facción, los cuales se pueden recuperar mediante técnicas de corpus. Del mismo modo, su traducción al español tiende a respetar estos rasgos morfológicos en cada facción.","PeriodicalId":42374,"journal":{"name":"Sendebar-Revista de Traduccion e Interpretacion","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136113111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The provision of accessibility services for the deaf and hard-of-hearing in live audiovisual subtitling, however, has routinely demanded quality assessment procedures of both the intralingual and interlingual live subtitles shown on the screen. In speech-to-text interpreting (STTI), which includes both intra- and interlingual respeaking (i.e. live subtitling without and with translation respectively), the NTR Model was proposed for the assessment of interlingual respeaking (Romero-Fresco & Pöchhacker, 2017). The purpose of this contribution is (i) to argue why the NTR Model might be conceptually valid for the assessment of SI, (ii) to present the results of a small-scale analysis of an SI task evaluated with four instruments aimed at scrutinizing the benefits of this Model and its applicability to SI, and (iii) to advocate for the use of objective assessment systems for student and professional performance in SI.","PeriodicalId":42374,"journal":{"name":"Sendebar-Revista de Traduccion e Interpretacion","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136115202","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Específicamente, se estudia la presencia de creación discursiva en el doblaje y el subtitulado al español de dos series alemanas de reciente producción (Sisi, en 2021 y Die Kaiserin, en 2022), basadas en la vida de Isabel de Baviera, emperatriz de Austria y reina consorte de Hungría. En concreto, se examinan las intervenciones de Ludovica de Baviera, madre de Isabel, cuando se dirige a su hija o mantiene conversaciones con ella. Se determinará si la presencia de creación discursiva, junto con la consideración de factores pragmáticos o de las restricciones propias de la traducción audiovisual, contribuyen a mantener o a modificar la representación que de este personaje se proporcionaba en las producciones alemanas.","PeriodicalId":42374,"journal":{"name":"Sendebar-Revista de Traduccion e Interpretacion","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136113278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An incredible number of metaphors and idioms are generated in the languages where these sports are played. Due to their cultural specificity, such expressions are particularly difficult to translate, and thus constitute a significant challenge for both machine and human translators (HTs). This paper explores the different possibilities available for the translation of metaphorical baseball expressions from English to Portuguese. The study is based on the TV Corpus, plus a corpus previously compiled by the author. The translations produced by three freely available online MT systems (Google, DeepL and Systran) will be compared with HTs used in the subtitles of TV-series, including both Brazilian and European Portuguese subtitles. The results of the analysis show that sports-related metaphorical and idiomatic expressions remain a blind spot for English-Portuguese MT systems.","PeriodicalId":42374,"journal":{"name":"Sendebar-Revista de Traduccion e Interpretacion","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136114714","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To hold reader interest, authors incorporate literary devices such as metaphors and idioms, as well as intertextuality, proverbs, quotations, and word play into these articles, a technique that can prove challenging to the translator. This paper studied six Spanish economic opinion articles to determine the type, frequency and difficulty of the different literary devices employed and to analyze which prove most problematic during translation into English. Said articles were chosen from well-established Spanish economic news sources in a six-month period and translated. Tables were created to record the use of the above-mentioned devices. Results suggest that intertextuality and cultural references are more challenging than metaphors or word play, and greater use is made of metaphors and idioms in subsequent articles. It is also concluded that such articles could be useful in the teaching of translation.","PeriodicalId":42374,"journal":{"name":"Sendebar-Revista de Traduccion e Interpretacion","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136115032","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

La Teoría de la Valoración ofrece un enfoque conceptual que resulta útil porque permite sistematizar y explicar los recursos lingüísticos que dejan entrever la presencia del emisor en el texto. Nos centraremos en el léxico utilizado en los fragmentos donde se oye la voz concreta de los jueces. Los resultados deberían ayudar a entender cómo se manifiesta su posicionamiento en un tipo de textos donde, pese su carácter argumentativo, se intenta ocultar la expresión de subjetividad. Asimismo, observaremos de qué modo se han traducido las unidades léxicas analizadas para determinar si las valoraciones formuladas en las traducciones respetan el punto de vista original.","PeriodicalId":42374,"journal":{"name":"Sendebar-Revista de Traduccion e Interpretacion","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136112532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

El objetivo del presente trabajo es estudiar cómo se traducen los términos bélicos de la China antigua tomando las armas en Romance de los Tres Reinos como ejemplo. Valiéndonos de un corpus paralelo ad hoc, hemos escogido ejemplos que contienen las armas más frecuentes de la obra y los hemos analizado partiendo de la teoría traductológica de Newmark (2001a, 2001b), a saber, la traducción semántica y la traducción comunicativa. El resultado apunta a que son dos métodos complementarios. Finalmente, hemos elaborado un glosario que permite visualizar las armas estudiadas y sus posibles traducciones, lo que podría ser de provecho para aquellos estudiosos que quieran traducir al español obras clásicas de China.","PeriodicalId":42374,"journal":{"name":"Sendebar-Revista de Traduccion e Interpretacion","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136112952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
