Partiendo de dicha premisa y tomando como referencia la investigación del proyecto TERMMED, el objetivo de este trabajo es estudiar la terminología del ámbito de la reproducción asistida (RA) para conocer su evolución, constatar el modo en que dicha evolución depende y se retroalimenta del contexto social en el que tiene lugar, y observar su ritmo de diccionarización en el diccionario académico del español. Puesto que uno de los discursos que mejor muestra los cambios que experimenta cualquier parcela de la realidad es el diccionario, en primer lugar, se analizan las entradas de una selección representativa de términos de la RA en diversas ediciones del diccionario académico del español. Y, en segundo lugar, se constata la primera aparición de estas voces en los corpus textuales más representativos del español, su frecuencia de uso y el interés de consulta por parte de la población general. Los resultados constatan la importancia social que ha ido adquiriendo la RA y la falta de adecuación entre el ritmo de diccionarización de dichas unidades y las necesidades de los hablantes reflejadas en los corpus de uso y en las consultas a dicho diccionario.","PeriodicalId":42176,"journal":{"name":"Cultura Lenguaje y Representacion-Revista de Estudios Culturales de la Universitat Jaume I","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48439934","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pastrana’s career surpassed her death when Lent continued touring her embalmed body – an exhibition that would outlive him into the late twentieth century. Although Pastrana was repatriated and buried in 2013, she did not reach the final rest as her story continues to fascinate twentieth-first century audiences. This essay focuses on the ways in which Pastrana’s body has been constructed and produced narratively building on multiple discourses that straddle different disciplines and cultural settings that span three centuries. The two biofictional novels Julia Pastrana (2007) by Sandy Olson and Julian Fenech, and The Orphans of the Carnival (2016) by Carol Birch will be analysed through the lens of transcorporeality (Alaimo, 2010). By drawing on twenty-first century feminist theory on the body that has placed emphasis on the body as a dynamic and travelling concept through its orientations and intersectionality, my principal aim is to provide new insights into the ways in which contemporary novelists have rendered Pastrana’s body and to examine to which ends.","PeriodicalId":42176,"journal":{"name":"Cultura Lenguaje y Representacion-Revista de Estudios Culturales de la Universitat Jaume I","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41828335","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dobre","doi":"10.6035/clr.6961","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.6035/clr.6961","url":null,"abstract":"This article examines William Faulkner's representation of traumatic abuse through his (anti)heroine Temple Drake (Sanctuary, 1931). First, I bring to the fore the material dimension of the character's traumatic rape, as opposed to its classical consideration as a multi-valent cultural metaphor (Patterson, 2002). Aided by insights from the field of trauma studies (Caruth 1995; Davis and Meretoja, 2020; Herman, 2015), I examine the clinical import the sexual assault had on the character's psyche through a close reading of her dissociation-induced traumatic memories. Second, I turn to the way in which the text deals with the representation of an event fraught with referential impasses. Specifically, in dealing with the elision of Temple's violation, disclosed not at the moment of its occurrence, but in the last scenes of the novel, I establish a parallelism between the aesthetic encoding of the traumatic event and its psychological processing. I argue that the purported narrative effacement of the abuse parallels the way in which the protagonist mentally absents herself from the scene of the attack, thus failing to adaptively integrate said attack into consciousness. Further, I posit that the author counters the narratorial silencing of the rape via metonymic indexes enmeshed in the textual fabric referencing the assault. Thus, the novel retains the same fragmentary reminiscing of the abuse as the character exhibits. Finally, I conclude that, in eliding the violation scene, Faulkner carries out a prima facie process of erasure of a traumatic event, only to reckon with its representational demands. \u0000 ","PeriodicalId":42176,"journal":{"name":"Cultura Lenguaje y Representacion-Revista de Estudios Culturales de la Universitat Jaume I","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45699439","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tras analizar los derivados incluidos en los nidos de derivación del sustantivo печаль/tristeza, así como sus sinónimos, podemos observar los microcampos más significativos en la estructura del campo de derivación del concepto ruso печаль/tristeza, como son “Действие/Acción” y “Признак, качество/Rasgo, cualidad”, lo que confirma la importancia de estos rasgos cognitivos en la representación de los conceptos emocionales. Asimismo, la intensidad está determinada por los verbos derivados con los prefijos вс-(вз-), на - y рас-. El microcampo “Лицо/Persona” está en la periferia del campo de formación de palabras; todos los derivados con el significado de “Лицо/Persona” no son estilísticamente neutros. Un análisis del desarrollo histórico del campo de formación de palabras de un concepto sustantivo mostró que, por un lado, el número de derivados está disminuyendo y, por otro, que la interacción de los rasgos cognitivos en el nivel de formación de palabras está aumentando, pues muchos derivados pueden expresar varios significados categóricos de formación de palabras (por ejemplo, acción e intensidad). \u0000La novedad del método propuesto consiste en que la construcción de un modelo de campo de derivación de un concepto permite hablar del carácter específico de este tramo de campo de nominación, describir los procesos de derivación, demostrar una interacción de distintos modos de derivación e intentar averiguar una dependencia de la estructura de un campo de derivación del tipo de concepto.","PeriodicalId":42176,"journal":{"name":"Cultura Lenguaje y Representacion-Revista de Estudios Culturales de la Universitat Jaume I","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47443340","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo estudiar, desde la perspectiva de la Retórica Cultural, las relaciones interactivas entre los discursos generados en torno a la oposición tǔ-yáng y los profundos cambios producidos en el proceso de modernización de China. Tǔ y yáng, que representan identidades, actitudes, estilos de vida, ideologías y valores completamente diferentes, han dejado una profunda impronta en el lenguaje, el pensamiento y la cultura de la sociedad china. En términos generales, yáng se asocia con lo extranjero, lo moderno y lo atractivo, mientras que tǔ se refiere a lo autóctono, lo atrasado y lo rústico. No obstante, ambos conceptos sufren cambios semánticos y valorativos en distintos contextos sociales, lo cual atestigua las influencias mutuas entre el discurso y el poder, así como los vaivenes en las relaciones entre China y Occidente.","PeriodicalId":42176,"journal":{"name":"Cultura Lenguaje y Representacion-Revista de Estudios Culturales de la Universitat Jaume I","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48835037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study investigates conceptual complexity to broaden the set of analytical categories to be used in multimodal analysis by making use of some of the latest developments on conceptual complexes, or principled combinations of cognitive models (e.g., frames, metaphors, metonymies), as discussed in Ruiz de Mendoza (2017, 2021) to a multimodal context. Work on conceptual complexity in Cognitive Linguistics has taken two main directions. One is provided by Blending Theory, which focuses on accounting for the emergence of new structure not present in the contributing conceptual constructs after selected integration. Another direction studies patterns of conceptual interaction with a view to finding regularities that can be formulated as high-level generalizations. We will adopt this second direction. The main aim of the study is to test these analytical categories and principles of knowledge organization in terms of their communicative impact within a multimodal environment. A subsidiary aim is to further develop the theoretical apparatus underlying this initial work. Analysing a corpus of 62 multimodal advertisements, we found that: (i) the nature of a frame determines its function, i.e., matrix frames are receiving frames, which ‘situationalize’ conceptual structure, whereas donor frames play a focal role; (ii) sometimes there is no frame integration but rather internal development within a given frame, which is possible thanks to the incorporation of an external element that is not integrated, but simply facilitates the development of the frame; (iii) there are also cases in which there is frame composition instead of integration; (iv) metonymy proves to be a licensing factor previous to integration, and (v) high-level non-metaphorical correlations can act as cues for the activation of metaphorical frameworks.","PeriodicalId":42176,"journal":{"name":"Cultura Lenguaje y Representacion-Revista de Estudios Culturales de la Universitat Jaume I","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71368833","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The scientific literature has underlined the importance of this type of communication on the infants’ vocal responsiveness. However, we still know little about the role of motherese on preterm infants’ vocal responsiveness. We intend to know the prosodic and communicative characteristics of motherese in preterm dyads and particularly to understand its relationship with the preterm infant’s vocal responsiveness. At NICU, mothers (N = 38) were asked to speak and to sing without words (humming) to their preterm infants in kangaroo care during five periods of three minutes alternating voice and silence, controlling the order effect (silence – speech or humming – silence – humming or speech – silence). A microanalytical study about prosodic and communicative/affectionate features of motherese was performed using ELAN, MAXQDA, and PRAAT software. According to results, tonal contours (sinusoidal, U-shaped and falling) and infants’ vocalizations seem to contribute for preterm dyads’ vocal modulation. A high use of phatic and conative functions, interrogative utterances, infants’ positive aspects, infants designated by affectionate words, and utterances connected with infants' needs were observed. This study contributed to explore the role of the communicative/affectionate and prosodic features of the motherese on preterm infants’ vocal responsiveness during the kangaroo care in NICU. Still, more studies are needed to deepen these preliminary results.","PeriodicalId":42176,"journal":{"name":"Cultura Lenguaje y Representacion-Revista de Estudios Culturales de la Universitat Jaume I","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41868782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
