Improvised or choreographed, zapateado, the particular footwork used in the dance, is central to both types of sones. Zapateado builds community and embodies aesthetic values shared by the members of the community. A worldview rich in symbolism is particularly embedded in sones de Xantolo and reflected in the dance.resumen:Teniendo en cuenta que el cuerpo y el movimiento son construcciones sociales y culturales, y considerando el baile como un sistema de movimiento estructurado, este trabajo estudia el zapateado en el baile de sones huastecos—los cuales se ejecutan en diferentes ocasiones festivas—y sones de Xantolo—que se bailan, principalmente, durante la celebración de Todos Santos—. Analizando varios aspectos de corporeidad involucrados en el baile de estos sones, investigamos cómo el movimiento y los cuerpos en movimiento encarnan valores estéticos compartidos por determinados grupos humanos. El movimiento es significativo, indicador de elementos idiomáticos particulares a cada sistema cultural. The main argument posits that locality in Latin America can be constructed by music through the development of rootedness and sense of place—via elective belonging—to create place in a given time and space (place making). The article explains the concepts of place, rootedness, and sense of place; introduces the idea of stability and instability in the appropriation of space; and proposes that festivalization and musical scene are the unifying aspects of the debate. The conclusion offers elements to build a theoretical and methodological proposal that facilitates the analysis of the relationship between music and space in this large global region.resumen:El presente texto pretende construir un primer marco metodológico para el estudio de la relación entre espacio y música en las ciudades latinoamericanas. El argumento principal sostiene que lo local (locality) puede construirse por medio de la música a través del desarrollo del arraigo y el sentido de lugar, pero por medio de elecciones informadas (elective belonging) que creen lugar en un tiempo y espacio determinados (place making) vinculados a la música. El texto está dividido en cuatro partes: la primera explica los conceptos de lugar, arraigo y sentido de lugar; la segunda introduce la idea de estabilidad e inestabilidad en la apropiación del espacio; la tercera propone los conceptos de festivalización y escena musical como aspectos unificadores del debate; y las conclusiones resumen el texto entregando algunos elementos para construir una propuesta teórico-metodológica que facilite el análisis de la relación entre música y espacio en esta región.","PeriodicalId":41979,"journal":{"name":"LATIN AMERICAN MUSIC REVIEW-REVISTA DE MUSICA LATINOAMERICANA","volume":"42 1","pages":"59 - 83"},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71339720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"艺术学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Díaz","doi":"10.7560/lamr41201","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.7560/lamr41201","url":null,"abstract":"ABSTRACT:This article studies the construction of transatlantic diasporic identities through musical and religious experience. The case study is of a recent visit to Bahia (Brazil) of the Ghanaian master drummer Eric Odarkwei Morton, a self-declared descendant of freed slaves who resettled from Bahia to West Africa in the nineteenth century. It explores the role of memories, beliefs, expectations, and musical aesthetics during Morton's encounters with local musicians and devotees of Afro-Brazilian religions. I frame Morton's visits to Afro-Brazilian Candomblé worship houses as the encounter of two worlds that idealize each other in their desire to connect with an ancestry rooted at the other side of the Atlantic. I argue that the potential of these encounters to be felt as a confirmation and a celebration of a common ancestry is actualized only in the context of musical experiences in which participants are deeply moved and feel understood.RESUMO:Este artigo explora a construção de identidades diaspóricas transatlânticas através de experiências musicais e religiosas. O foco é numa recente visita à Bahia (Brasil) do mestre percussionista ganês Eric Odarkwei Morton, um descendente de escravos libertos que migraram da Bahia para a África Ocidental no século XIX. O artigo explora o papel das memórias, crenças, expectativas e estética musical durante os seus encontros com músicos locais e devotos da religião afro-brasileira Candomblé. Eu enquadro as visitas de Morton às casas de culto de Candomblé como o encontro de dois mundos que se idealizam mutuamente em seu desejo de se conectar com uma ancestralidade enraizada no lado oposto do Atlântico. Argumento que o potencial destes encontros serem entendidos como confirmações e celebrações de ancestralidades compartilhadas só se concretiza por medio de experiencias musicais intensas aonde os participantes se sentem profundamente comovidos e entendidos.","PeriodicalId":41979,"journal":{"name":"LATIN AMERICAN MUSIC REVIEW-REVISTA DE MUSICA LATINOAMERICANA","volume":"41 1","pages":"131 - 166"},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2020-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43117700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"艺术学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first section presents the evidence of the economic cycle of expansion and retraction that the Argentine recording industry experienced throughout the period, in full accordance with Latin American and global dynamics. The second section looks to understand this economic process not as a mere \"cold fact\" but also as both a factor and a sign of profound sociocultural transformations. The coincidence between the period considered by INDEC and the emergent phenomenon of youth music can be seen, in this regard, as completely symptomatic. Similar considerations should be made regarding the increasing importance of the recording format that the new rock culture chose as its own: the LP. As in many other places, Argentine youth music and culture represented one of the most distinctive expressions of the new economic and sociocultural forms of global capitalism in the second half of the twentieth century.RESUMEN:Este artículo sistematiza y analiza la información sobre discos de música producidos en Argentina entre 1964 y 1984 recogida por el Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas y Censos (INDEC) en sus informes estadísticos. En la primera parte, se exponen los datos que manifiestan el fuerte proceso de expansión y posterior retracción económica que atravesó la industria discográfica argentina durante todo el período, en clara sintonía con la dinámica latinoamericana y global. En la segunda parte, se plantea que, lejos de ser un mero dato frío, este proceso económico puede ser interpretado a la vez como factor e indicio de transformaciones socioculturales de largo alcance. La coincidencia entre el período relevado por el INDEC y la emergencia del fenómeno de la música juvenil resulta, en este sentido, totalmente sintomática. También lo es el permanente crecimiento a lo largo de todo el período de la importancia relativa del formato que la naciente cultura roquera reivindicaría como propio: el disco long-play (LP). Como en muchos otros lugares, la música y la cultura juveniles argentinas representaron una de las expresiones locales más distintivas de las nuevas formas económicas y socioculturales del capitalismo global de la segunda mitad del siglo XX.","PeriodicalId":41979,"journal":{"name":"LATIN AMERICAN MUSIC REVIEW-REVISTA DE MUSICA LATINOAMERICANA","volume":"41 1","pages":"167 - 195"},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2020-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41730242","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"艺术学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
