{"title":"Variation or continuity? Polyphonic wordplays and phraseological creativity of young Polish speakers","authors":"D. Indeed, every day communication brings out a large variety of new forms and formulæ. Nevertheless, rather than changes, they mostly remain innovations. Having considered, in the first part, main tendencies in contemporary Polish, the second part discusses findings of a compared analysis of 553 nominal phrases (NP) extracted from two sources: an online dictionary of urban slang (Miejski) and short humoristic stories published between 1935 et 1937. The results suggest similarities in speakers’ attitudes, in particular as far as poliphonic phraseological creativity is concerned.\u0000 L’article propose une réflexion sur des phraséologismes nominaux extraits de Miejski, dictionnaire du parler de jeunes Polonais. La première partie expose les principales tendances et nouveautés repérées dans le polonais de la période post-transitionnelle. La seconde partie est consacrée à une analyse comparée de 553 unités phraséologiques extraites de Miejski et de chroniques humoristiques de Stefan Wiechecki publiées entre 1935 et 1937. Cette comparaison fait apparaître des continuités de comportements langagiers, notamment pour ce qui est du recours aux procédés polyphoniques chez des locuteurs de deux époques différentes.\u0000 Niniejszy artykuł poświęcony jest tematyce zmian we współczesnej polszczyźnie. Pierwsza część przedstawia najważniejsze tendencje opisane w badaniach zrealizowanych od końca lat dziewięćdziesiątych do dnia dzisiejszego. Część druga prezentuje wyniki analizy porównawczej 553 fraz rzeczownikowych pochodzących z dostępnego w sieci Słownika Slangu Młodzieżowego (Miejski) i z publikowanych w latach 1935-1937 opowiadań Stefana Wiecheckiego. The author examines the issues of norm and standard and presents an analysis of the socio-linguistic peculiarities of Suržyk with the support of the literary and audiovisual corpus.\u0000 Le phénomène de suržyk est présenté en tant que conséquence du bilinguisme russe-ukrainien du point de vue diachronique et synchronique et phénomène d’adaptation linguistique, vers le russe, mais aussi vers l’ukrainien en Ukraine post-soviétique. Канкурэнцыя двух варыянтаў беларускай літаратурнай мовы (афіцыйнага – наркамаўкі і неафіцыйнага – тарашкевіцы) вядзе да ўзаемапранікнення іх нормаў і стыхійнаму фарміраванню ў актыўных карыстальнікаў своеасаблівага кампраміснага падыходу, які акумулюе ў сабе найбольш рацыянальныя рысы абодвух варыянтаў.\u0000 The formation of an independent state of the Republic of Belarus (1991) has also brought about changes in the Belarusian language, primarily aimed at its divergence with the Russian language, especially in the field of vocabulary and grammar. The competition of two variants of the Belarusian literary language (the official one – narkamaǔka – and the unofficial one – taraškevica) leads to the interpenetration of their norms and the spontaneous formation of a kind of compromise among active users, which accumulates the most rational features of both variants.\u0000 La proclamation de l’indépendance de la république du Bélarus (1991) a provoqué des changements dans la langue bélarussienne, visant principalement à diverger de la langue russe, en particulier dans le domaine du vocabulaire et de la grammaire. La concurrence de deux variantes du bélarussien littéraire (l’officielle est la narkamaŭka et la non-officielle est la taraškievica) conduit à l'interpénétration de leurs normes et à la formation spontanée auprès des bélarussophones actifs d’une approche de compromis dans leur usage de la langue qui concilie les traits les plus probants des deux variantes.\u0000 Образование самостоятельного государства Республика Беларусь (1991) вызвало изменения и в узусе беларуского языка, направленные прежде всего на его дивергенцию с русским языком, особенно в области лексики и грамматики. However, it had to overcome various obstacles, while its direction was not consistent. Over the course of the first year of fascist occupation, the Partisans and the Communist Party of Yugoslavia confronted a practical dilemma, each potential solution to which might alter the course of the Liberation Movement’s struggle: popular anti-fascism or socialist revolution? According to the existing literature, the latter outweighed the former from late 1941 to mid-1942, but its catastrophic consequences and Comintern’s intervention resulted in the abandonment of this radical approach. The ‘leftist errors’, as this period is known, marked a cycle of serious defeats, setbacks, and failures for the Partisan Army, especially in Montenegro and Herzegovina. The confiscation of properties, burning of villages, and executions of existing or potential enemies were the manifestations of this policy, which aimed for the socialist transformation of Yugoslavia as part of the liberation struggle. {"title":"From Hollywood mobster to Russian gangster: representations of mafia in Coppola’s Godfather trilogy and Balabanov’s Brother films","authors":"Lara Hania Olszowska","doi":"10.14324/111.444.0954-6839.1275","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.14324/111.444.0954-6839.1275","url":null,"abstract":"This study examines the changed mythology of crime in the Hollywood gangster genre resulting from new representations of mafia in Francis Ford Coppola’s Godfather trilogy. The trilogy will be viewed as a point of departure for new experimentations in the gangster genre in response to the Russian experience of mafia, namely in Aleksei Balabanov’s Brother film sequence. This analysis will discuss the key themes that appear in Coppola’s trilogy including family, masculinity, morality, and identity and consider the extent to which they either translate to or mutate in Balabanov’s sequence. This research will also explore how Balabanov infuses his films with unique Russian stylistic elements from the bylina (fairy-tale) and aesthetics from chernukha (dark cinema) in order to create a reimagined version of the gangster film.
