From ethnography (Kingsbury, 1988; Nettl, 1995) to case studies (Musumeci, 2005; 2008), biographical analysis (Smilde, 2009a; 2009b) and a more organizational point of view underlying workplace bullying in arts jobs (Quigg, 2011). Perhaps the biggest taboo in formal music teaching is the intended use of psychological violence in classrooms, especially in higher studies. Unfortunately, researches highlight that this issue is still present. These studies gather testimonies of students who suffered psychological violence during their music education. The findings start to shed light on a topic that all experienced educational agents at Conservatories have known; cases of greater or lesser severity of psychological and/or sexual harrasment. In closing, some measures are proposed to allow Conservatories to cope with this issue. The end of violence is an essential requirement to quality of life from music education.","PeriodicalId":40474,"journal":{"name":"Revista Internacional de Educacion Musical","volume":"6 1","pages":"13 - 24"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.12967/RIEM-2018-6-p013-024","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42225918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using case studies as research methodology, it has been possible to examine how this professor articulates a shared identity between teaching and inter pretation. From the classification of states of identity proposed by Skorikov & Vondraek (2011) and Bouij (2004) it has also been possible to infer how, with respect to his profession, Jesús has gone through several states of identity throughout his career and how he currently integrates his musical skills into his pedagogy at the same time as he is interested in the teaching and development of students. From the data obtained, it can be concluded that, at least in his case, musical interpretation and teaching can be combined in a positive way and that although a traditional model of teaching instruments is used in conservatories, various resources can be integrated with which to improve the teaching and learning process.","PeriodicalId":40474,"journal":{"name":"Revista Internacional de Educacion Musical","volume":"6 1","pages":"25 - 35"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/230748411800600102","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42789226","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, they must attend Music Language classes from the first year, a subject that they usually find it unattractive and it makes them feel with anxiety. In this article we discuss a research carried out in a Professional Conservatory of Music with students in their first two years of elementary training. The goals in this research are to identify which aspects are a source of anxiety in these students and to analyse the usefulness of our educational proposals in order to reduce it. We have applied a qualitative research methodology which combines the characteristics of case study methods and classroom-based research. This research enables us to state that the implementation of flexible, dynamic and positive pedagogy, the improvement of study habits in our students, the family involvement, the care of relationships, the recognition of mistakes, accepting them as natural feature of the whole learning process, and the performing musical exhibitions in public on a regular basis reduce anxiety.","PeriodicalId":40474,"journal":{"name":"Revista Internacional de Educacion Musical","volume":"5 1","pages":"41 - 48"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.12967/RIEM-2017-5-p041-048","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66541176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly, ideas of diversity and interculturality in the current contexts marked by globalization, as a figure of a homogeneous world will be discussed. Then, a genealogical tracing of the ancient, but still valid, classical-popular dichotomy, will be coped with, showing that, far from referring to a strictly musical dispute, it drags from its origins an homologation of the classical to the cultured, and from the popular to the vulgar, defined from the paradigm of the Enlightenment in Modern Europe. Thus, it is argued that the construction of an intercultural musical curriculum must necessarily deconstruct these models, in order to reconstruct them in permanent dialogue between historical traditions, situated traditions and the multiplicity of current musical experiences.","PeriodicalId":40474,"journal":{"name":"Revista Internacional de Educacion Musical","volume":"5 1","pages":"119 - 127"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.12967/RIEM-2017-5-p119-127","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66541018","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the development of music skills in non-academic spaces tends to be underestimated with the argument that they lack the required theoretical foundations within the learning of classical music. By moving through music education from social to institutional spaces, the standardization of knowledge has privileged abstract learning over that which takes place in practical environments. Music in its written form is conceived as a work of art in itself, creating a division between those who can interpret the ‘cultured’ music and those who cannot. Classical music is therefore considered as an object worthy of being consumed by the dominant social classes in order to reaffirm their position. This has an impact on the value given to music with indigenous roots. This article proposes to implement, in the Mexican educational system, a pedagogical model that considers the form of circulation of knowledge from the perspective of local cultures. In particular, the learning of the Huasteco ‘son’ musical genre is proposed as a means for the knowledge, diffusion and revaluation of the Huasteca culture and its worldview.","PeriodicalId":40474,"journal":{"name":"Revista Internacional de Educacion Musical","volume":"5 1","pages":"103 - 110"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.12967/RIEM-2017-5-p103-110","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66541403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The musical processing is a complex issue. From a cognitive point of view production, music perception and aspects of the musical discourse, such as timbre, intensity, pace, and tonality, are processed in different parts of the brain and their structure may vary from one person to another, depending on their musical experience. Throughout this review, we will present the background related to the benefits of musical training in cognitive development of children during early childhood, emphasizing differences that involves receptive training compared to active, extending the effects to the field of music therapy and the use of techniques with therapeutic purposes.","PeriodicalId":40474,"journal":{"name":"Revista Internacional de Educacion Musical","volume":"5 1","pages":"61 - 69"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.12967/RIEM-2017-5-p061-069","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66541276","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is often seen as an instrument of domination because it imposes itself as a mode of representation for music coming from oral tradition, which finds innumerable limitations in the notation for its record. The epistemology of musical notation that is questioned here as hegemonic is that which: (i) limits its possibilities to academic repertoire; (ii) warns about its (in)ability to register other music; (iii) limits and reduces its function to that of a register; (iv) encourages the development of reading skills in particular; and (v) assumes the activity of reading as decoding and writing as codifying with its concomitant pedagogy. This epistemology entails a Eurocentric perspective of musical notation that has colonized music education, naturalizing not only in the fields of musical training, but also in ordinary life. In this article we propose to question that epistemology, providing empirical evidence and arguments that allow us to estimate alternative assumptions for thinking about musical notation as a system of representation, with the consequent decolonial possibilities that this implies.","PeriodicalId":40474,"journal":{"name":"Revista Internacional de Educacion Musical","volume":"5 1","pages":"129 - 138"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2017-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.12967/RIEM-2017-5-p129-138","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47730639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
