{"title":"T. S. ELIOT’S “OLD POSSUM’S BOOK OF PRACTICAL CATS” IN THE CONTEXT OF “NURSERY RHYMES” TRADITION","authors":"K. M. S. Eliot and the collection of children’s verses Mother Goose Old Nursery Rhymes (published in 1760), compiled and illustrated by A. Rackham (1913). Consisting of 15 poems, and distinguished by its frivolity against the background of other works by Eliot, the cycle Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats has been overlooked by both Russian and foreign researchers for a long time. Recently a surge of interest in this book of verse has been provoked by the release of a feature film Cats (2019) based on the world-famous musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber. This fact as well as the lack of serious academic studies of Eliot’s book of verse has determined the urgency and novelty of this paper. It is also important to show the involvement of this segment of Eliot’s poetry into the English literary tradition. The aim of this research is to identify the influence of Victorian aesthetics of nonsense on the poetry of T. S. Eliot’s cycle. The method of comparative analysis has been chosen as the main research method. Besides, structural-semantic and linguistic-cultural methods have been used. In understanding and interpreting the term “tradition” the author relies on Eliot’s aesthetics, in which this concept is central. The terminological unit “nursery rhymes” is used in its original traditional meaning since its historical and cultural background disappears in any Russian translation or scholarly interpretation. In the course of work, certain features of nursery rhymes have been identified in the poetic texts by the great Modernist. The study of the specificity of this genre (the playful atmosphere of the text, the special rhythms and forms of coding historical events, animalistic perspectives, the use of various repetitions and imitations, the creation of author’s occasionalisms and unusual names of characters, etc.) confirms strong influence of the tradition of English nursery rhymes on T. S. It is also noteworthy that the project was originally created as an international one. The presence of a different research perspective allows the project to remain a platform for discussion even when using similar methodological approaches. The project has existed for more than ten years, during which seven international conferences have been organized and four collections of scientific articles and three collective monographs have been published. Conferences have been held every two years, each time highlighting the current trends of the modern literary process, fixing systemic shifts that change the structure of the cultural field. Статья посвящена размышлениям об опыте группы близких между собой людей, воевавших против большевиков, оставшихся по собственной воле в СССР, культивировавших в себе способствующий выживанию конформизм, но не избежавших ареста, тюрьмы, ссылки и лагеря; потом нелегально покинувших страну, не только с целью спасти свою жизнь, но и аналитически рассказать внешнему миру об СССР; наконец попавших в западню «заговора молчания», длящегося по сей день. Во-первых, к прижизненным перипетиям группы применяется понятие «инонаходимость». Во-вторых, эти перипетии, в единстве с их посмертным продолжением и с учетом их вписанности во взаимодействие группы с намного превосходящим ее контрагентом, рассматриваются при помощи понятия «лиминальность»; автором показывается коррелятивность двух понятий (инонаходимость и лиминальность) и применяются две разные теории «лиминальности» (Михая Спариосу и Арпада Шаколчая). Иными словами, подверженность «заговору молчания» видится как аспект «инонаходимости», «замалчивание» – как политика «лиминализации» группы, но и как симптом принадлежности самих «замалчивающих» лиминальной ситуации. В-третьих, очерчивается внеперсональный объект «замалчивания» – набор проигнорированных, из-за малоприемлемости источника либо их собственной нелицеприятности, сведений и идей: это до-солженицынские сведения и идеи о Гулаге, к которым современное англоязычное «гулаговедение» приходит, как бы выдавая их за собственные находки, игнорируя прецеденты. В-четвертых, этот набор сведений и идей соотносится с понятиями «инонаходимости» и «лиминальности»: лагерный опыт понимается и как «инонаходимостный», и как «лиминальный», а опыт создания Гулага – как «лиминальный». Попутно демонстрируется эвристичность обобщений одного из членов вышеуказанной группы, И. В статье исследуется природа интертекстуальных и интермедиальных взаимодействий между романом Теодора Драйзера «Американская трагедия» и лондонской кинотрилогией Вуди Аллена («Матч-пойнт» (2005), «Сенсация» (2006) и «Мечта Кассандры» (2007)). Хотя само существование таких связей проблематично в силу категорического несходства старомодного и тяжеловесного писателя-натуралиста, с одной стороны, и ирониста, чьи тексты пронизаны интертекстуальной игрой, декларирующего собственную асоциальность и нелюбовь к Драйзеру, с другой, сравнительный анализ в сочетании с теорией адаптации и жанровой теорией помогает изучить культурные механизмы, позволяющие предположить существование данной культурной преемственности. Запечатленная с незаурядной художественной мощью Драйзером история Клайда Гиффитса приобретает статус мифологемы, и в этом качестве на протяжении всего двадцатого века то и дело всплывает из глубин культурного бессознательного, заявляя о себе более или менее явными, порой самыми неожиданными интертекстуальными и интермедиальными перекличками с Драйзером. Лондонская кинотрилогия Аллена рассматривается как один из возможных примеров этого явления. Тема преступления и наказания является магистральной для Аллена. «Матч-пойнт» и «Мечта Кассандры» выделяются среди других алленовских фильмов на эту тему («Преступления и проступки» (1986), «Иррациональный человек» (2015)) тем, что протагонисты, замышляющие убийство, одержимы в них мечтой о богатстве и повышении своего социального статуса. Сравнительный анализ сюжетики, образов протагонистов и их ценностных ориентиров показывает, что в своей трактовке проблемы преступления и наказания в этих двух фильмах Аллен, сам того не признавая, следует за Драйзером. Результаты исследования релевантны для истории литературы, проясняя значение драйАнцыферова О. Ю. Fragmentation, discontinuity of spatial-temporal relations, alternation of points of view, nonlinearity of the organization of B. Pasternak’s 1910–1920 prose complicate the process of adequate interpretation of the text, which requires the reader to concentrate attention and go back several times to check the relevance of understanding. In this regard, the techniques that focus the reader’s attention, acquire special significance in the process of interpreting a modernist cento text. The aim of the study is to reveal the system of linguistic means that help focus the reader’s attention, direct it in the process of interacting with the text, and form a strategy for interpretation. The use of the descriptive method, the method of continuous sampling, contextual analysis and the interpretive method made it possible to identify the system of linguistic means, their functional specifics, and the system of deictic relations that activate the reader’s attention by turning on certain cognitive mechanisms. These are both linguistic means and methods of personal deixis (the system of personal pronouns), and means of dialogization (discursive elements), and ungrammatical remarks, and spatial coordinates reflecting the process PROBLEMS OF MODERN LINGUISTICS 89 of the narrator’s gaze movement from object to object. Together, they form a grid of deictic coordinates, each of which should attract the reader’s attention and determine their movement from one point of reference to another. By participating in the organization of the strategies of perception and interpretation of the text by the reader. The identified system of linguistic means and the principles of their interaction, used by Pasternak in early prose, may in future become one of the most regular ways of modeling the deictic mode of the text, which determines the strategy of its interpretation by the reader and reflecting the peculiarities of his idiostyle. {"title":"THE HISTORY OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE HEXAMETER IN GERMAN POETRY","authors":"T. N. Andreiushkina","doi":"10.51762/1fk-2021-26-01-02.","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.51762/1fk-2021-26-01-02.","url":null,"abstract":"The article traces the history of the development of the hexameter on German soil: from the use of the Leonin hexameter in the Middle Ages and the Reformation, the mixed Latin-German hexameter in the period of humanism (in the form of carmina eroica) and the German hexameter in the 18th–19th centuries (mainly in the form of elegy, epigram and idyll) to derivatives and ironic forms of the XX century (memorandum, instructive poem, etc.). Klopstock played a significant role in the spread of the hexameter in German poetry, bringing a fresh stream to German poetry by rejecting the prevailing in the 17th century predominantly alternating Alexandrian verse. Voss also inspired his contemporaries to create distiches with his translations of Homer’s poems. The flowering of the hexameter falls on the period of classicism: Goethe and Schiller created the best and purest examples of this poetic meter. Goethe and Schiller during the Enlightenment, Hölderlin, Novalis and Kleist in romanticism, Rückert, Platen and Mörike in post-romanticism introduced variety and movement into the hexameter by means of different types of caesura in verse. Austrian poets (Saar, Weinheber, Bachmann) appeal to hexameter as a classic form of German verse, Hauptmann uses it to create a large poetic form. The poets of the pre-war and war period (Colmar, Schröder, Holthusen) seek in him an aesthetic support in an era of timelessness. Poets of the former GDR (Brecht, Bobrowski, Müller), poets of the Federal Republic of Germany (Grünbein, Herbst) use it sporadically and in a transformed form, but at the same time take into account the thematic and genre traditions associated with this antique meter.
