Lateral positioning and focus adjustment is accomplished by electrowetting-on-dielectrics. The chip is fabricated on a transparent Pyrex substrate and is equipped with a two dimensional array of electrodes featuring a well-defined microstructure which allows accurate positioning of the liquid micro-lens. The system is used as a variable optical fiber coupling element, and measurements of optical power coupled to a fiber as a function of the applied voltage are presented. Applications such as adaptive wave front sensing, optical tweezers, or three- dimensional focus control for microscopy are envisaged.","PeriodicalId":402931,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE/LEOS International Conference on Optical MEMs and Nanophotonics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125061879","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A 100x200 mum2 micro-mirror array was successfully designed, fabricated and tested, with tilting angle of 20deg at 100 V. In parallel we have developed and implemented a high-resolution Twyman-Green interferometer and a cryo-chamber for full surface and operation characterization. The micromirrors could be successfully actuated before, during and after cryogenic cooling. Surface deformation of gold coated mirrors at 300 K and below 100 K shows a slight increase from 35 nm to 50 nm PtV, still well suited for MOS application.","PeriodicalId":402931,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE/LEOS International Conference on Optical MEMs and Nanophotonics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116589157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PC based waveguide (PCWG) created along the radial direction of CPC enables the transmission of lightwaves in subwavelength width structures. Additional filter rods are added to the PCWG to server as filtering function so that only allowed lightwaves with designated frequency can pass through the rods set. The other frequencies will be reflected. This PC device allow the distribution of light for different frequencies to different output port channel, which is very useful for multiplexing optical circuit and system.","PeriodicalId":402931,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE/LEOS International Conference on Optical MEMs and Nanophotonics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133382013","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
