The study focuses on high-level control to keep DC voltage stable, mitigate oscillations due to the change in incoming power produced by contingencies in the AC grid and to provide the system with an adequate dynamic response [1]. Apart from this, controllers need to be validated in terms of HVAC grid compliance and for this purpose the UK National Grid Code will be used for verifying the fulfilment of frequency/voltage response and Low Voltage Ride-Through (LVRT). Thus, different tests will be performed considering the MTDC control objectives and the Grid Code compliance.","PeriodicalId":395329,"journal":{"name":"2017 Twelfth International Conference on Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116891674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Optimal designs of both machine types are compared regarding different constant power speed ranges (CPSR). The optimization objectives are to minimize the active material cost and losses. Results show that the DESM is more advantageous over the PMSM counterpart in loss saving at a wide CPSR, and the PMSM is capable of reducing the machine cost.","PeriodicalId":395329,"journal":{"name":"2017 Twelfth International Conference on Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117138805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed AFMG machine consists of stator segments equipped with concentrated windings and two permanent magnet (PM) rotors with different pole-pair numbers. The proposed AFMG offers the merit of simple mechanical structure and is suitable for applications with limited axial space. To maximize the torque, both 2D and 3D optimizations of the machine are conducted and compared. By utilizing ANSYS Maxwell 2D finite element (FE) analysis, the global optimization based on a genetic algorithm is executed under fixed copper loss. Then, with the aid of JMAG 3D FE analysis, the optimization of individual geometry parameters is investigated. As the proposed machine has a high - speed rotor of 5 pole pairs, a low-speed rotor of 7 pole pairs, and 12 stator/modulator pieces with concentrated windings, a good agreement of optimized machine dimensions obtained from two optimization methods is achieved. Moreover, both no-load and on-load performance of the machine are analysed.","PeriodicalId":395329,"journal":{"name":"2017 Twelfth International Conference on Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126490935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The air conditioning system for passenger comfort and the thermal conditioning system (battery and powertrain) are main auxiliary consumers in EVs with respect to energy consumption. Therefore, the Horizon 2020 project \"OPTEMUS\" proposes to tackle this bottleneck by leveraging low energy consumption and energy harvesting through a holistic vehicle-occupant-centred approach. This manuscript presents the approach of the project and first simulation results of the air conditioning system including a heat pump. This system is capable of using the ambient air or a preconditioned battery as heat source.","PeriodicalId":395329,"journal":{"name":"2017 Twelfth International Conference on Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER)","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115208936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The application analyses the daily trips and charging possibilities, recorded as per user input. The resulting demands are compared to available electric vehicles as well as extended range electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The vehicles that suit the requirements are presented to the user, taking not only the ideal range into account but also the realistic range in mild and cold weather conditions. Accordingly, the user receives reliable results, and therefore might utilize an electric vehicle sooner than originally envisaged.","PeriodicalId":395329,"journal":{"name":"2017 Twelfth International Conference on Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130573509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Following a well-structured, holistic approach, at first actuators of the considered vehicles are described using mathematical equations. Afterwards the development of the assistance function takes place, including detailed information about the used optimization algorithm. The optimization provides a then energy and time optimal speed profile. It is shown, that very detailed modeling results in an oscillating speed profile, which is not capable to use on a normal street. Therefore, the influence of boundary conditions on the optimization is demonstrated in the simulation results.","PeriodicalId":395329,"journal":{"name":"2017 Twelfth International Conference on Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER)","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129597709","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Linear analysis methods that are based mode shapes and participation factors are used to identify dynamic interaction in a hybrid ac-dc power system. The analysis uses as a test system a three terminal Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) based Multi-terminal High Voltage DC (MTDC) grid connecting three multi-machine asynchronous ac grids. The results show that there is some dynamic interaction between ac and dc grids under conventional MMC converter control structure, while the non-conventional MMC converter control structure decouples the ac and dc side of the MMC converter, thus avoiding interaction between the ac and dc grids.","PeriodicalId":395329,"journal":{"name":"2017 Twelfth International Conference on Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126890710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The mover design-sizing procedure is initiated by an investigation of the influences of the width and the height of the iron rings, on the maximum value of the phase flux linkages and the peak-to-peak cogging force. This enables the selection of a set of parameters achieving a high phase flux linkage with reduced cogging force. In order to highlight the effectiveness of the proposed concept, its comparison with the case of an ironless mover its carried out, with emphasis on the no-load features. A 50% increase of the amplitude of the fundamental back-EMF is gained thanks to the included iron rings in the mover.","PeriodicalId":395329,"journal":{"name":"2017 Twelfth International Conference on Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER)","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124397066","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
