The empowerment of the patient means involving him in his self-care and making it part of his disease process. Therefore, to improve our difficulties in education, it is necessary to identify the knowledge needs of patients in relation to their disease.</p></div><div><h3>Objective</h3><p>To explore the expectations of epilepsy patients regarding the health education received.</p></div><div><h3>Method Design</h3><p>descriptive qualitative study from a hermeneutical perspective. Subjects: Intentional sampling of 18 patients with epilepsy volunteers to participate in health education sessions between January and July 2019. Data collection and analysis: Documentary technique through analysis of the wording to the question about their expectations in education sessions.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>We obtained 10 codes that are codified in 3 subcategories of expectations in education: learning and disease management, problems with mood and interaction and sharing with other people with epilepsy. Moreover, the dependence of the patient will increase.</p></div><div><h3>Objectives</h3><p>To assess the efficacy of specific interventions designed to train non-professional caregivers of patients diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral disease.</p></div><div><h3>Method</h3><p>Descriptive cross-sectional study of an intervention designed for non-professional caregivers of patients with ALS. Pilot study. The target audience of this study are non-professional caregivers of patients with ALS. The level of dependence of the patients is measured with the Barthel index, the Revised Scale of Functional Assessment of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Cognitive Behavioural Screening in ALS. The needs of these patients’ caregivers were evaluated according to the Kreutzer questionnaire. A multidisciplinary intervention designed to modify this situation was designed and reevaluated.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>Finally, seven caregivers were included in the pilot study. They were women, with an average age of 56 years, partners of the patients, with parallel economic activity and with an average level of education. The patients were men with a mean age of 63 years and 1-3 years of disease duration; they presented a moderate-mild Barthel, cognitive impairment, gross motility and respiratory function. The most demanded needs were for «medical/health information» and «involvement in treatment and care».</p></div><div><h3>Conclusion</h3><p>Specific interventions to meet the needs of non-professional caregivers are highly effective. Medical care might be challenging as MS symptoms are heterogenic and patientś needs can be different according to the phase of the disease. Ocassionally, medical-care team requirements might not meet MS patientsʹ needs.</p></div><div><h3>Objectives</h3><p>To learn the experience of patients and their caregivers of the medical care received in the Gregorio Marañón Hospital Demyelinating Unit.</p></div><div><h3>Method</h3><p>We designed a focus group with 26 participants incidentally recruited from the Gregorio Marañón Hospital Demyelinating Unit: 8 with low physical disability, 8 with high physical disability and 10 caregivers. Information was collected regarding 3 main topics: information, clinical care and medical team.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>High satisfaction was found among all participants with most of the medical care and with the professionals of the MS unit. They agreed with the interventions they were offered but they considered that physical rehabilitation and psychological support must be offered, not only to MS patients but also to their caregivers and family. This study translated the Brazilian version of the booklet “Laura's diary: knowing hydrocephalus and its treatment” into Spanish as spoken in Spain.</p></div><div><h3>Methodology</h3><p>This methodological study conducted in Spain (Universidad de Santiago de Compostela) and Brazil (Botucatu Medical School) undertook the following translation steps: translation, using two Brazilian translators fluent in Spanish; synthesis, involving a Spanish nurse with experience in education; and back-translation, using a Brazilian translator and nurse fluent in Spanish.</p></div><div><h3>Findings</h3><p>The two versions of the initial translation were similar, with few amendments necessary during the consensus meeting between the researchers to achieve synthesis of the translations. The two versions of the back-translation were very similar to the original.</p></div><div><h3>Conclusion</h3><p>A free Spanish booklet was presented to minimize the negative effects of surgery, empower families, and aid future research between Brazil and Spain. Mismanagement of a disease can affect a child's quality of life. We classify patients into 2<!--> <!-->groups according to crisis control: good control (≤1 crisis / month) and poor control (&gt; 1 crisis / month) and we compare the demographic variables (age, sex, employment status and civil status), clinics (epilepsy type, crisis type, years of evolution of epilepsy), therapeutic (antiepileptic, antidepressant and anxiolytic drugs), presence of depression (NDDI-E scale), anxiety (GAD7 scale) and quality of life (QOLIE10). The data was collected by doctors and nurses after informed consent was signed.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>152 patients participated, 53% were men with a mean age of 44 ± 11 years. Sixty-eight percent (n = 103) had good crisis control and 32% (n = 49) poor control. Thirty-six point 6<!--> <!-->percent had depression (NDDI-E&gt; 15) and 42% anxiety (GAD&gt; 10). Sixty percent of patients with depression and 54% with anxiety did not receive antidepressant and / or anxiolytic treatment. The factors associated with poor crisis control were the presence of depression (OR 2.3, <em>P</em>=.02) and a worse quality of life (OR 1.8, <em>P=</em>.01).</p></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><p>The presence of altered mood in patients with epilepsy is frequent. Moral-Munoz","doi":"10.1016/j.sedene.2019.12.001","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.sedene.2019.12.001","url":null,"abstract":"<div><h3>Introduction</h3><p>Pusher syndrome is characterized by the patient pushing towards the hemiparetic side with the contralateral side, in a sitting position, standing and during movement, surpassing the gravitational mean line, which produces inappropriate adjustment and postural control.</p></div><div><h3>Objective</h3><p>To determine the effectiveness of physiotherapy treatment in post-stroke pusher syndrome and to extract guidelines for its correct identification and interdisciplinary approach.</p></div><div><h3>Method</h3><p>A systematic review was carried out (2000-2019), using the specialized databases MEDLINE, Scopus, PEDro and Web of Science. The descriptors used in the search strategies were “pusher syndrome”, “pushing behaviour”, “controversial pushing”, treatment, “physical therapy”, physiotherapy.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>Although the evidence is still limited, the intensive intervention of Physiotherapy in the patient with pusher syndrome post-stroke seems to improve the clinical symptoms in terms of severity and postural control. Among the different forms of treatment, training through visual feedback seems to be effective, especially using the Nintendo Wii balance platform.</p></div><div><h3>Conclusion</h3><p>An individualized physiotherapeutic intervention with each patient is necessary to facilitate and guide the most effective motor strategies, work synergies between the members of the interdisciplinary team are essential (with specific guidelines on transfers and functional activities between sessions) to ensure continuity of care that guarantees achievements are maintained.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":38763,"journal":{"name":"Revista Cientifica de la Sociedad Espanola de Enfermeria Neurologica","volume":"53 ","pages":"Pages 16-24"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"137386941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
