Central to this challenge is the need for substantial investment in critical infrastructure, particularly in public transport and renewable energy. Sustainable cities are characterized by efficient transportation systems that reduce reliance on private cars, as well as the adoption of renewable energy sources that mitigate environmental impacts. However, cities in developing countries often struggle to make these transitions due to limited financial resources and outdated infrastructure. The result is a growing trend of unsustainable development, marked by congestion, pollution, and energy inefficiency.","PeriodicalId":373664,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Humanities and Communication Studies","volume":"21 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141379856","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This novel is considered as an experiment of time, in which Woolf represents the chronology of time through images such as Big Ben and its relentless chimes. She also utilizes chimes as an important image to help construct a narrative, build characters, and convey the theme. The theme is comprehensive and complex; it contains the struggle of women, the authority of societal norms, and the deep thoughts of death. Virginia Woolf uses chimes to tie these together.Meanwhile, she successfully collapses time and space through the symbolic chimes, as the thoughts of characters can be traced back to the past or forward to the future without breaking the chronology limits. Making the most of a single ordinary day. This study attempts to figure out how chimes function in the novel, as well as the impact chimes have on narrative, characters, and themes.","PeriodicalId":373664,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Humanities and Communication Studies","volume":"349 11‐12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141380880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper looks at how network group Polarization has developed from the original concept of group polarization after the Internet was created and popularized. The reasons for the emergence of online groups are categorized as (1) The Internet provides a wealth of information that people can selectively receive, and algorithmic mechanisms on the web push information based on user data. (2) people can communicate virtually on the Internet, (3) the influence of the media and public figures, (4) the platform’s vetting mechanism of the information, and (5) the accumulation of social contradictions for which the Internet provides a platform for catharsis. At the same time, group polarization may exacerbate the antagonism of different groups in society, but it will also help minorities find a sense of identity and increase cultural inclusiveness.","PeriodicalId":373664,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Humanities and Communication Studies","volume":"30 14","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140450413","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Algorithms, big data monitoring, and other technologies are widely applied to the business sector, creating a new business model of surveillance capitalism. This business model is mainly characterized by personalized recommendations, which collect, analyze, and predict consumer preferences to customize advertisements for targeted consumers, guiding and shaping their consumption decisions for profit. Based on existing literature, this paper analyses the impact of personalized recommendations on consumer decision-making in the business model, intending to explore the threat of consumer autonomy under surveillance capitalism. The paper argues that personalized recommendations have a covert intervention in consumers’ decision-making and reflexivity: they deprive consumers of the opportunity to make changes to their personalities and reinforce their inherent preferences. Personalized recommendations also result in discrimination against vulnerable groups and differential pricing, influencing people without their knowledge. In addition, personalized recommendations threaten consumer autonomy by weakening their ability to reflect. To safeguard consumer autonomy, people should take the initiative to improve their digital literacy, reflect on the ideology of instrumental rationality, and actively participate in platform interactions.","PeriodicalId":373664,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Humanities and Communication Studies","volume":"110 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140451174","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Combinatorial games are two-person games with perfect information, no chance moves, and a win-or-lose outcome. To be precise, a combinatorial game is a game that satisfies the following conditions. The paper also talks about the rules of the combinatorial game, such as how many players the game has and the rules of the game specify for both players and each position that moves to other positions a legal move. Then, the meaning of the P-positions and N-positions were introduced. After that, the paper talks about the typical combinatorial game- the game of Nim, another example of the combinatorial game, to illustrate the paper’s point of view. The paper talks about the whole rules of this example game, such as the number of players and the initial configuration of the piles/heaps. The author gives several strategies and talks about why these strategies can help the players win combinatorial games. The paper gives two cases to illustrate the game rules and give a better understanding after all. In the end, the paper gives a Python3 program for combinatorial games, making the ideas of combinatorial games more comprehensive.","PeriodicalId":373664,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Humanities and Communication Studies","volume":"32 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140449570","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
