First, the number of letters and sentences in writing stagnated or decreased slightly, but the number of T-units increased, suggesting improved sentence maturity. Second, latent growth modeling confirmed a linear model for both explanatory and narrative writing. Third, factor analysis found that the quality of writing accounted for the highest proportion (weight) of writing skills. This study found that upper elementary school is an important period for qualitative changes in “discourse-level proficiency writing” based on the transcriptional skills and writing fluency acquired in lower grades. Practical guidance is thus needed to improve the skills of 4th to 6th graders in text organization and in identifying the purpose and reader of the writing.

Lengthy and unstructured writing makes the information less coherent. It appears as speech in written form. Such writing is difficult to comprehend. The text should be “more designed, selected, and organized.” \u0000This study defined the problem of student writing as “the written language of spoken language.'” It was delineated as an “expression of psychology unrelated to the subject,” “unnecessary repetition of the same word,” and “strengthening of friendly functions rather than delivery of information.” Finally, it explained writing as an “instructional expression.” \u0000This study found that a meticulous rhetorical strategy could increase readability and persuasion. Along with that, writing education needs to be conducted in this direction. Follow-up research will discuss specific educational measures.

The purpose of the new curriculum is in line with the international community’s emphasis on digital media literacy. In the future when technology such as ChatGPT has become widespread, literacy based on digital technology will become increasingly important. Therefore, this study empirically explores the current middle and high school students’ perceptions of the components of digital media literacy. In the “Korean Language”, “Common Korean Language 1, 2,” and “Media Communication” segments of the 2022 revised Korean Language Curriculum. In addition, it is intended to provide basic information for digital media literacy classes considering the level and characteristics of learners. \u0000A test tool with 16 cognitive components and 10 affective components of digital media literacy was created, and students’ responses were collected. The overall average value was 3.5 points or higher, indicating a positive perception of digital media literacy. \u0000This analysis established the following. First, classes and evaluations involving digital familiarity are needed. Second, digital media challenges with clear goals and objectives should be presented. Third, classes and evaluations of the critical judgement of information are needed. Fourth, sufficient time should be provided for information sharing and communication through digital media.

To this end, we reviewed previous studies on digital literacy and Korean reading activities. It was confirmed that most textbooks do not present specific methods for addressing integrated language activities in Korean. \u0000Therefore, in this study, we suggest a method and stages of integrated reading-writing and reading-speaking activities to a number of participants proposing reading activities that can be applied in actual educational settings. This study is unique as it specifically outlines activities for cultivating learners’ digital literacy not previously presented in textbooks. In consequence, it is expected that if studies on ways of conducting classroom activities accumulate, the results of this application will be notable and Korean textbooks reflecting the changed learning environment will be developed in the future.

The real culture of foreign learners was reflected in teaching and learning by investigating the commonalities and differences between “The Fairy and the Woodcutter-牛郎 織女-Ngưu lang Chức nữ” that the people of “Korea-China-Vietnam” commonly know. In addition, it was intended to promote learners intercultural capabilities by considering Byram and the Korean Language Education Standard Model Development Process, which emphasized the improvement of intercultural cultural communication capabilities of both learners and instructors in foreign language education. These efforts are meaningful in that they have been actively carried out using folk tales in Korean language education, expanding the interpretive horizon of Korean language culture education.

However, there are few studies that have utilized media literacy in history subjects. This study is an implementation study of liberal arts history classes using media literacy targeting college students. Classes were held online zoom in the first semester of 2022. The results of the study are as follows. \u0000First, students showed more interest in familiar contents in the course of classes using film media, and also had new curiosity. Second, when students were well aware of the background knowledge, they tended to analyze the media more critically. Third, students were able to gain confidence when they recognized that their knowledge was accurate during the discussion process and were supported by peers and instructors. Fourth, it is believed that the diversity of university members can be sufficiently helpful in understanding the diversity of historical interpretation. \u0000This study presented a direction for how to introduce and utilize media literacy in history education in the future. Although the limitations of this study are clear since it is an experiment targeting one school, more research is expected to be conducted in the future.

Analysis the questions and instructions of four foreign college student report writing textbooks in this study identified five thinking skills: factual thinking, reasoning thinking, analytical thinking, critical thinking, and creative thinking. In all textbooks, inferential thinking was the most common (32.9%), followed by analytical (25.7%), creative (17.3%), factual (15.7%), and critical(8.4%). There were slight differences in each textbook, but the treatment of thinking ability was found to be similar and similar types of thinking skills were taught. \u0000In addition, many studies have criticized textbooks as lacking creativity, but they were not compared to Korean textbooks, and failed to examine logical thinking. The book is a liberal arts book that describes a vast knowledge of philosophy, literature, culture, space, etc and deep thoughts about walking in a unique style. It is of unrivaled value in that she reflected on the history of mankind by paying attention to walking itself, based on the author’s walking experience. In addition, it is meaningful to argue that walking is a cultural and political phenomenon by insight into the universality and resistance of walking. However, it is a limitation to raise the issue of those who cannot walk only in terms of women’s rights. Humans walk to exist and think while walking, so a society that people do not walk is dangerous. This book will be a good guide to those who take a curious look around and have a desire to read their own minds.

Currently, education on self-introduction letters targets students of different grades considering the characteristics of the letters oriented toward seeking employment. However, it is also necessary to teach university freshmen how to write such letters, not only because of university freshmen’s need to learn about self-introduction letters but also the fact that they often must submit self-introduction letters. To understand the current status of education on self-introduction letters that university freshmen received in high school, the textbook Speech and Writing, one of the selective subjects, was reviewed. Also, the limitations of self-exploratory writing in creating writing content in university liberal arts education were examined. As a result, this author concluded that what university freshmen should note in writing self-introduction letters is not just themselves, the object of writing, but also the “reader,” the context of communication, and “introducing,” the purpose of writing such letters. Education on writing self-introduction letters for university freshmen should be aimed at not only self-exploration to examine their career path or jobs but also at enhancing the basic writing skills required of university students. To this end, this researcher notes the need to select educational content that can improve students’ abilities to consider the genre characteristics of self-introduction, analyze the “reader” and organize and express contents that meet the reader’s needs properly, and achieve the goal of communication by considering the context in which the “introduction” takes place. Because it is not the first time for university freshmen to learn about the situation of self-introduction, this study suggests a method of education that starts by allowing them to check their current status on their own, for instance, what type of concept they have about self-introduction letters or how they write one. In addition, this study proposes a method of education that allows them to experience reading various examples of self-introduction letters as a “real reader” and organize the impressions that the letters made on them so as to discover effective strategies to write a self-introduction letter and apply them to their own writing.

Research published from 2005 to 2011 focused mainly on the identity and goals of university writing education and included discussions on writing in the disciplines. Since 2013, there has been a trend of assessing various writing approaches. Nevertheless, efforts to ensure systematicity and specificity of university writing instruction are still required. This is because it remains unclear how teaching strategies and methods can be implemented effectively in classroom settings, even though previous research has suggested tools such as assessment criteria or a feedback system. Therefore, in this study, the types of conversation strategies used in writing conferences were synthesized and classified. This study used a general qualitative research method with ethnographic data collection involving classroom observations, interviews, and document analysis. The types of conversation strategies were selected and divided into cognitive and affective strategies.
