The results indicated that most counselors had not heard of, were not implementing, and perceived themselves as very unprepared to use the RDoC framework. However, there is limited research that explores the lived experiences of school counselors as advocates. This phenomenological study captured the perspectives of 14 ASCA School Counselor of the Year (SCOY) finalists. The data revealed five themes, including: understanding advocacy as an ongoing process, stand up and be the expert—professional advocacy, building a principal-counselor partnership, constructing equitable individual and systemic change, and investing and giving back.","PeriodicalId":37213,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Counselor Leadership and Advocacy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77293589","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Participants’ leadership self-efficacy significantly predicted their implementation of the ASCA National Model but not their social justice advocacy.
