In these kinds of environments, heterogenous networks are usually encountered, consisting of a wide variety of devices, ranging from data centers to Internet of Things devices and sensors. As such, each individual system’s performance needs to be taken into account during the construction of the virtual backbone network, in order to maximize its efficiency based on the requirements of a considered service. To accomplish this, each node in the network is characterized by an appropriateness parameter, which indicates how appropriate a node is for a requested virtual backbone network. An algorithm for the construction of a CDS is extended to take this parameter into account. A low-cost wireless network installed in a university campus is used as an experimental testbed to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The obtained results show that the proposed approach is capable of constructing appropriate virtual backbone networks for smart tourism services which add reduced network overhead.","PeriodicalId":371385,"journal":{"name":"2019 10th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA)","volume":"180 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122334002","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we study the automation of this task and propose a system for facilitating authors. We leverage text mining techniques and specifically Automated Keyword Extraction (AKE), the Text to Matrix Generator (TMG) which is a MATLAB toolbox for text mining, and the indexing tools of J4T_{E}X. From our experiments using publicly available datasets, our system appears to be capable of generating satisfactory indexes that can be used after only little user intervention.","PeriodicalId":371385,"journal":{"name":"2019 10th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122860845","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Simultaneously Virtual Reality is a promising technology for innovation in education, training and e-learning. Combining these two concepts, this paper outlines a new model for designing serious games in virtual reality environments for high quality, deep and meaningful learning, the Serious E-scape Room. It describes the theoretical grounding, general guidelines and principles of the model. It also presents the case study “Room of Keys”, a serious virtual escape room for biology concepts. To test the assumptions of the model, researchers conducted a mixed research study with 148 students in a US high school. Pre-post test results recorded a 13.8% performance increase and high overall satisfaction. The game has been received enthusiastically by students, it increased their motivation and helped them build a deeper understanding of the learned concepts.","PeriodicalId":371385,"journal":{"name":"2019 10th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114215424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the other hand, consumers use a variety of displays to watch multimedia services delivered over networks. These devices include traditional TV monitors, smartphones, tablets and computer monitors. Consequently, screen sizes and viewing conditions (e.g., viewing distances, viewing environment illumination, etc.) may affect the perceptual video quality. Depending on the viewing environment and content characteristics, transmitting video data at high bitrates or high resolutions may not improve the perceptual video quality. In this paper, we investigate how various aspects of the viewing environment influence perceptual video quality and propose some methods to select bitrates and transmission resolutions based on perceptual video quality and viewing conditions for available bandwidth.","PeriodicalId":371385,"journal":{"name":"2019 10th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132979301","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various versions have been derived to face different user and network requirements. Reliability and fairness are among the most demanding challenges for TCP. Reliability can be enhanced by incorporating the idea of Multipath TCP (MPTCP) thus letting TCP transmits on multiple paths. In this work we investigate TCP’s performance in large scale networks. We also propose a new Time Division Route Switching (TDRS) approach for load balancing and validate its benefits via simulations.","PeriodicalId":371385,"journal":{"name":"2019 10th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124323802","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, the educational community is one of the most important ones to consider, since school buildings constitute a large part of non-residential buildings, while also educating students on sustainability matters is an investment for the future. In this work, we discuss a methodology for achieving energy savings in schools based on the utilization of data produced by an IoT infrastructure installed inside school buildings and related educational scenarios. We present the steps comprising this methodology in detail, along with a set of tangible results achieved within the GAIA project. We also showcase how an IoT infrastructure can support activities in an educational setting and produce concrete outcomes, with typical levels of 20% energy savings.","PeriodicalId":371385,"journal":{"name":"2019 10th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117038887","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cloud identification and segmentation is the first step in several areas, such as climate research and lately photovoltaic power generation forecast. Cloud-sky segmentation involves several variables including sun position and type and altitude of clouds. We proposed a training-free cloud/sky segmentation based on a threshold that adapts to the cloud formation conditions. Experimental results show that the proposed method reaches higher detection accuracy against state-of-the-art algorithms; additionally, qualitative results over hemispherical high dynamic range (HDR) sky images are provided. The proposed cloud segmentation method can be applied to shading prediction for photovoltaic (PV) systems.","PeriodicalId":371385,"journal":{"name":"2019 10th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125791947","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such systems generate large volumes of real-time data that need to be managed, communicated, interpreted, aggregated, and analyzed in order to support real-time decision-making capabilities. Furthermore, automotive industries have introduced In-Vehicle-Infotainment (IVI) systems in supporting drivers/passengers with a varying set of functions. The main purpose of this study is to present an IVI cognitive functionality that automatically and dynamically proposes the optimum music genre to the drivers /users when they want to travel with their vehicles. The proposed system utilizes (i) driver/user’s profile data and his/her current situation, (ii) driver/user’s personal preferences, (iii) external environment information obtained from sensor measurements, and (iv) previous knowledge, turned into experience, in an automated manner. Knowledge is obtained through the exploitation of a machine learning technique based on the Bayesian networking principles. Indicative simulation results showcase the behavior of the aforementioned IVI cognitive functionality in proactively identifying the optimal music genre and accordingly notifying the driver/user.","PeriodicalId":371385,"journal":{"name":"2019 10th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125843053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Similarity of different parts or regions of different genomes suggests evolutionary relationships among different species and might foretell functional roles which prevented genes to separate. These similar segments are called conserved gene clusters or gene clusters. Approximate Gene Cluster Discovery Problem (AGCDP) is the problem of finding genes that are kept together in different species. Presented in this study is an Integer Linear Programming (ILP) formulation of the AGCDP. Since ILP is proven to be NP-complete, the study also made use of LP Relaxation since linear programming problems can be solved in polynomial time. The software used Java for the interface and other functionalities and R for solving ILP. InteGene, the tool produced by the study, can provide the user the best clusters given a set of data and input constraints which can be further tested for biological significance.","PeriodicalId":371385,"journal":{"name":"2019 10th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121324336","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
