In line with this concept, this paper introduces a new innovative infill pattern inspired by a variety of strut-base lattice structures that is stronger and more material-efficient than conventional 3D printing infill. This research provides the design, analysis, and experimental results of the developed 3D printed infills, then compared with a benchmark infill. Three (3) strut-based lattice test samples, namely Body-Centered Cubic (BCC), Face-Centered Cubic (FCC), and Octet-Truss, were designed and 3D printed with an equal amount of material used, then undergo compressive test on Universal Testing Machine. Results showed that BCC, FCC, and Octet-truss infill pattern print has a compressive strength of 11.25 MPa, 8.47 MPa, 7.44 MPa consecutively, while benchmark infill has 9.73 MPa. This data proves that with the same amount of material consumed, the BCC lattice structure infill withstands a compressive load higher than the benchmark infill, which is offered in a 3D printing slicer.","PeriodicalId":36749,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Engineering Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45758269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main issue in mechanical engineering, particularly in the assembly department, was that automobile engine components assembly was found to be complicated and challenging to assemble using an existing method, where they only rely on a video-based method. The purpose of this paper is to create interactive Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) applications that allow users to efficiently assist and complete the assembly tasks. In this work, the authors designed and developed a fully immersive VR application using an HTC Vive headset and two AR applications (marker-less AR application and marker-based AR application) using EPSON MOVERIO BT-300 (AR Smart Glasses). Fourteen engineering students from Universiti Putra Malaysia were selected for the experiment. They were divided into four groups: video-based group, VR-based group, marker-less AR group, and marker-based AR group. They are required to complete all four experiments (video-based experiment, VR-based experiment, marker-less AR experiment, and marker-based AR experiment). The results showed that the marker-less AR application is the best impressive method (37% better), the VR application is the second impressive method (23% better) followed by the marker-based AR application is the third impressive method (3% better) compared to the existing video-based guideline. Therefore, the students favored AR and VR applications rather than the existing method to be used in automobile engine assembly tasks.","PeriodicalId":36749,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Engineering Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41814032","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The university’s maintenance team must keep the building facilities in good condition to ensure the safety and comfort of the students and staff as well as to protect the university’s reputation. However, with today’s economic challenges, management frequently encounters difficulties in maintaining the buildings, resulting in the high number of complaints from building users. As a result, early detection of complaint trends is critical in reducing issues. Based on user complaints and the ‘learning from failure’ philosophy, the main aim of this study is to identify the most common complaint of building defects in residential colleges. The scope of the study is limited to 9 residential colleges from one (1) Malaysian public university. Complaints from 2012 to 2017 due to defects were categorized into 3 main areas of civil, electrical and mechanical. From here, the most frequent complaints from these categories were then identified. From the findings of this study, defects under civil received the highest number of complaints (62%), followed by defects under electrical (35%) and mechanical (3%). Under the category of civil, most defects were reported due to damage component, leaking and clogging. The solutions emphasize the importance of quality control, on improving workmanship, increasing building occupants’ awareness level, and improving complaints management. Overall, this study is significant when constructing new buildings because it provides information to the operation team as early as the design stage to consider the possibility of future maintenance activities, and planning improvement.","PeriodicalId":36749,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Engineering Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49189040","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Polar codes have been utilised as a coding method for the fifth-generation wireless standard (5G). However, the polar decoder does not adequately correct errors in successive cancellation (SC) decoding when dealing with short- to intermediate-length codes. However, SC decoding can correct errors more efficiently by using sequential cancellation list (SCL) decoding. The main drawback of SCL is its higher cost due to computational complexity and throughput. The present research investigates the effect of Gaussian approximation (GA) and different decoding approaches on the performance of polar codes. First, SC and SCL decoders are developed utilising amplitude shift keying modulation; a decoder using GA is then integrated. According to simulation data, the SCL, both with and without GA, exhibits a better block error rate (BLER) than SC. The maximum difference between the SCL decoder and SC decoder is 0.6 dB at BLER=0.1 for N=2048. Furthermore, at BLER=5.6 x 10-6, the SCL decoder with GA performs better than the SC decoder for block lengths, N=1024, with a maximum difference of 2.72 dB. When the polar decoder with GA is utilised, enhancements are observed in polar code performance for various list sizes and block lengths, although time complexity is increased.","PeriodicalId":36749,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Engineering Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49534419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Developments on both BCI and Machine Learning allowed various researchers to develop and study various BCI control systems, mainly varying with the algorithm implementation. This research presents a performance analysis of the Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) for BCI control systems for drone maneuverability. Eye gestures were used to generate the EEG data that were captured using the Emotiv INSIGHT Neuroheadset. The obtained data were transferred to the computing hardware using IEEE 802.15 wirless communication protocol (i.e. Bluetooth connectivity); the data are processed using the 5th order Butterworth Band-Pass filtering and heuristic filtering. The filtered dataset is then fed to the ANFIS and a Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm, the latter serving as the basis, for training and quadcopter control implementation. Three flight tests were done, hover test, flight command test, and the flight control test, the final test compared the performance of the BCI control system using the ANFIS algorithm to the performance of a traditional handheld remote controller. Results from the initial two tests showed that the ANFIS performed comparably with the SVM, and even about 2% better. The final test showed that the BCI control system had a maximum variance of 4% compared to the handheld controller, where the latter served as the basis. It was found that between Machine Learning algorithms, ANFIS is as capable as the SVM for BCI control systems. Further developments may focus on employing time-series EEG preprocessing techniques.","PeriodicalId":36749,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Engineering Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49112562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This has raised certain usability issues, primarily when utilizing pixel graphics in dealing with complex User Interface (UI) design on devices with smaller screen size. This paper addresses the delay in timing, as the main part of the usability issue, which is caused by the increased of user interaction in completing task given. This paper studies the conversion rate outcomes from pixel graphics to interactive Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) as a solution in reducing user interaction thus enhancing overall user experience (UX). The research design focuses on 2 analysis stages, which starts with a comparison stage that is exploratory in nature, followed by a regression analytics as part of the usability testing. The comparative analysis utilizes A/B testing that is composed of a control group and a treatment group, which measures the time spent based on actions per-page, in determining the effect size of both pixel and vector graphics through specified observations. The regression analytics that follows through is explanatory in nature and measures the indirect effects of the time delay, in defining that there is a significant relationship between time spent against actions per-page. The findings contribute towards establishing a more impactful use of graphic format in the adaptation to UI design that maximizes UX outcomes, which defines effective usability towards conversion optimizations.","PeriodicalId":36749,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Engineering Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45019927","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This design is made for future modular applications, but for now, the functionality and performance of the local flight controller were tested and compared to the Pixhawk flight controller. A simple 3D printed enclosure was made to house the local flight controller for easier mounting on UAV frames. To compare the performance of the developed controller, two setups were made:  local flight controller and Pixhawk 1 on separate quadcopter frames, and local flight controller and Pixhawk Cube on separate fixed-wing frames. The flight controllers made use of the Ardupilot firmware, specifically ArduCopter and ArduPlane in conducting the flight tests. Auto flight mode was used to have autonomous flights which were then used to compare the flight data between test setups. The desired position and actual position were compared for each flight controller, and their differences with the other flight controllers were compared to see the variation between the different controllers used. After analyzing the data, the local flight controller developed was proven able to produce comparable results with the Pixhawk flight controllers. The percent difference between the mean values of the Pixhawk 1 and the local flight controller were 3.7064% and 8.6128% using the quadcopter frame for Position X and Y, respectively, while for the Pixhawk Cube and the local flight controller, the values were 12.6866% and 1.1045% using the fixed-wing frame, respectively.","PeriodicalId":36749,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Engineering Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45032643","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study extracted Centella asiatica using SFME and analysed the extract for its phytoconstituents, phenolic content, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activity. Extraction of 20 g fresh C. asiatica by SFME was carried out for 15 min at 300 W, under vacuum and with stirring. Analysis by gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) demonstrated that the extract contained phytonutrients such as flavonoids, polyphenol, tannins, and volatile oils. The extract from SFME also produced an IC50 of 0.06 mg/ml and 10.75±0.61 mg GAE/g dry weight of TPC. Using the disc diffusion method, the extract of C. asiatica also exhibited antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter sp., Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Penicillium chrysogenum and Aspergillus japonicus. This study showed that the                C. asiatica extract from SFME retained the antioxidant and antimicrobial properties but in a shorter extraction time and without any solvent. Unfortunately, some projects are still abandoned due to certain reasons. If the abandonment occurs, the requirement to submit an abandonment plan is stipulated on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Guideline in Malaysia, 2016. Unfortunately, still lack of resources on pre-project abandonment guidelines which will lead to poor project abandonment report preparation and assessment. Thus, this study aims to determine crucial indicators for assessing the pre-abandoned project, proposing a framework of Malaysia Guidelines for Pre- Project Abandonment Plan (PAP), and validating the draft of the Malaysia Guidelines Framework for PAP. The collected data was compiled from various sources, including document review, survey, and Delphi Method (focus group discussion). The survey conducted proved that the most crucial indicators for the assessment of pre-abandoned project were (i) waste management, (ii) allocation of environmental budgeting, (iii) inventory of scheduled waste, (iv) slurry management, (v) method of demolished, (vi) safety and health of workers, (vii)drainage management system, (viii) site management, (ix) type of treatment plant, and (x) site housekeeping. This framework will assist both report preparer and policymakers on project abandonment report preparation and evaluation, respectively.
