Within the scope of technolog y transfer, tools and methods that were originally developed for aerospace applications are now to be made available for precision agriculture. In particular, the field of precision beekeeping was selected for this purpose. An IT infrastructure to support the honeybees and the work of beekeeping is to be developed. The aim is to ensure that the electronics remain unobtrusive and that the beehive does not beco - me a switch cabinet. This results in an experimental test setup that can be used in the field of teaching Internet-of-Things (IoT) systems. In this way, hardware and software components are created in the project and used directly in teaching.","PeriodicalId":365289,"journal":{"name":"Innovando la educación en tecnología. Today it is possible to collect data from many more stakeholders(not just students), and also to collect much more data from each stakeholder. Nevertheless, low-level data collected by monitoring the interactions of the multiple stakeholders with learning platforms and other computing systems must be transformed into meaningful high-level indicators and visualizations that guide decision-making processes. The aim of this paper is to discuss some notable trends in data-driven innovation in engineering education, including 1) improvement of educational content; 2) improvement of learners’ social interactions; 3) improvement of learners’ self-regulated learning skills; and 4) prediction of learners’ behavior. However, there are also significant risks associated with data collection and processing, such as privacy, transparency, biases, misinterpretations, etc., which must also be taken into account, and require creating specialized units and training the personnel in data management.","PeriodicalId":365289,"journal":{"name":"Innovando la educación en tecnología. A consequence of a complicated source code is that it requires more effort to be implemented and maintained. Exacerbating the problem is a lack of a proper understanding of exactly what the words “complicated” and “complex” mean, as the definitions of these words are often misconstrued. Some systems are indeed inherently complex, but this does not mean they must be complicated. In our research, several open- source projects were evaluated using software metrics to map the complicatedness of a source code with the ongoing effort to sustain the project. The results of our research show that a relationship exists between a complicated source code and the maintenance effort. It is clear that adhering to proper coding practices and avoiding a complicated code can result in a much more manageable future maintenance effort.","PeriodicalId":365289,"journal":{"name":"Innovando la educación en tecnología. Machine learning classification algorithms can be useful in building models to predict donor status. However, when data contains imbalanced classes, like the data we used for this project, models tend to over-index the majority class, which was non-donors in this case. These results have significant implications for institutions in that they may not pursue entities that may, in fact, become donors. In order to improve the usefulness of our model, we used a resampling technique called random undersampling (RUS) to balance the data and also the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC-ROC) metric to evaluate the performance. Our final model improved its predictive power from 67% to 76%. Institutions of higher learning can use this machine learning model to more efficiently target the pool of potential donors, saving money and time. Future research will focus on improving the predictive accuracy of our model by exploring other data manipulation techniques that minimize the effect of imbalanced data, changing thresholds for classification algorithms, and using genetic programming and feature engineering.","PeriodicalId":365289,"journal":{"name":"Innovando la educación en tecnología.
