The purpose of this paper is to assess the performance of radio over fiber links for WCDMA by simulation. The developed simulation models have integrated systems for both RF wireless and optical fiber systems that would be transparent to a UMTS system. Whereby, in this WCDMA RoF network model consists of central station, one remote access unit and an optical fiber link model that uses commercially available parameters. In this system, external modulators technique which is electroabsorption modulator is applied. The whole hierarchical simulation system model was constructed and simulated using a commercial optical system simulator. By varying the modulation index, the log of bit-error-rate (BER) can be achieved as low as around -450 dB. Comparing the results of different optical power input not lead to a big different of distances that can be achieved.","PeriodicalId":356424,"journal":{"name":"2007 Asia-Pacific Conference on Applied Electromagnetics","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132233629","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Digital matched filter (DMF) in a CDMA system is used for correlating the received data with the transmitted data. The key issues in the design of a DMF are speed and power. This paper presents the design of a fine-grain pipelined DMF with clock gating with an objective to increase the speed and at the same time reduce the power consumption. The design has been verified through simulation and synthesis of the existing DMF and the proposed architectures. Verilog HDL coding of the design is done using Xilinx ISE design tool. Speed and estimated power consumption of the design are obtained using XST Synthesis and XPower tools of Xilinx respectively.","PeriodicalId":356424,"journal":{"name":"2007 Asia-Pacific Conference on Applied Electromagnetics","volume":"9 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114005046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, with frequency discriminator method, two types of spectrum analyzer, e.g. swept signal analyzer and Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analyzer are used. By looking into the different of operation for the instrument, different sets of correction factor are determined. Considering the correction factor into the phase noise characterization, the measurement results are compared. With a signal source analyzer, the measurement corrections are further verified. A correction measurement with corrections for compensating the instrument effect in phase noise characterization is discussed.","PeriodicalId":356424,"journal":{"name":"2007 Asia-Pacific Conference on Applied Electromagnetics","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114885869","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However as integrated circuits become denser as well as feature size become smaller, the conventional metallization aluminium (Al) has it limitations. But then the use of copper (Cu) is increasingly attractive because they have higher electromigration resistance and demonstrate a lower resistivity than Al. Due to the superior properties of Cu, a chip made by Cu may need only half as many metal layers as one made with Al, providing considerable reduction in manufacturing cost. Since Cu has many advantages and offer a cost saving, manufacturers prefer to have a shared line together with Al. However, despite all the advantages, Cu also has some drawbacks because it is a deep level dopant on silicon and cause large generation of electron and holes in depletion layers. So, results in large leakage and degraded reliability. These imply that prevention of Cu contamination is important in a fabrication. Hence, appropriate methodology is required to prevent it seeing as current method of Cu contamination detection highlighting on a wafer surface only. This paper presents a new method, VPD-TXRF, which can be use to detect a Cu contamination that come from many sources in a wafer fab. This method was definite by gauge repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R) study and correlation with current method; Inductive Couple Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICPMS). A positive result validated this method as a novel method to evaluate the level of Cu that come from many sources in a wafer fab.","PeriodicalId":356424,"journal":{"name":"2007 Asia-Pacific Conference on Applied Electromagnetics","volume":"114 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116831722","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is because measurements of the radiation pattern are usually done in an anechoic chamber in order to avoid reflections from nearby objects and external interference from affecting the field pattern. The most important element in anechoic chamber is absorber. The electromagnetic wave absorbers are used to absorb the reflected wave that occurs on the wall of the chamber. A good absorber is the one with smaller reading of reflection wave. The operation of absorber depends on the design and the material used. This project focused on the development and designs the absorbers for anechoic chamber. There were then assembled into a chamber for further testing.","PeriodicalId":356424,"journal":{"name":"2007 Asia-Pacific Conference on Applied Electromagnetics","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125644201","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A Vivaldi tapered slot antenna is designed to have the 10-dB bandwidth from 3.2 to 11.3 GHz. In the system, a monocycle pulse wave with the duration shorter than 200 ps is propagated in free space. Two-dimensional imaging in a reinforced concrete sample demonstrated that the system can estimate the positions of reinforcing bars with a depth resolution of less than 2 mm which is a tenth that of a conventional system. To increase radiation efficiency for SAR, the antenna directivity is designed to be orthogonally anisotropic with radiation angles in the azimuth and elevation directions of 120 and 60 degrees, respectively. Synthesizing an image along the azimuth direction enables the shapes of the reinforcing bars to be restored with high spatial resolution and contrast from radar echoes.","PeriodicalId":356424,"journal":{"name":"2007 Asia-Pacific Conference on Applied Electromagnetics","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132619560","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cross-phase modulation induced crosstalk noise is described by a system of coupled equations, which describes mutual channel interference optical losses in multi channel optical communications system. The corresponding system of equations has then been numerically integrated, and the channels interaction phenomena such as cross-phase modulation have been described. System performance is evaluated through determining the cumulative crossphase modulation crosstalk relation with both of the received power and number of channels.
