It presents the results of examining the geometrical structure of the surface, nanohardness\u0000and tribological tests. The surface’s geometrical structure was tested through optical microscopy, and\u0000nanohardness was determined using the instrumental indentation method with a Berkovich indenter. The\u0000modelling tribological tests were performed in a reciprocating motion under the conditions of technically dry\u0000friction and with lubrication using Ringer's solution. An analysis of the results of tribological tests indicates\u0000that the films were characterised by lower motion resistances and wear with respect to the Ti13Nb13Zr\u0000alloy. Hardness measurements indicate that, as a result of deposition of the films, the hardness increased by\u0000approximately 51% in the case of the Al2O3 film and by approximately 44% in the case of the TiO2 coating.\u0000The produced test results constitute a source of knowledge about the Ti13Nb13Zr alloy, oxide films and the\u0000possibilities of their potential application to low-load biotribological systems.\u0000\u0000

The fatigue strength of monolithic materials is most often\u0000determined during bending, tensile, compression, or torsion tests. The growing area of thin, hard coatings\u0000application forced the researchers to extend the fatigue tests to the coating-substrate systems. Since the\u0000behaviour of complex, modern materials are not subject to general rules, it is necessary to conduct investigation\u0000and analyses and generalise the results of these tests for given groups of materials. In this article, microimpact\u0000fatigue tests were performed to analyse the behaviour of single- and double-layer chromium and\u0000chromium nitride coatings. The microhardness and elastic modulus obtained by an indentation method were\u0000used to determine the influence of mechanical properties of the coatings on their fatigue wear. After the fatigue\u0000tests, the deformation of the coating/substrate system was examined, taking into account the geometry of the\u0000craters, and the forms of coating wear caused mainly by cracking were analysed.\u0000\u0000
