The article is a report from a qualitative research conducted in April 2021. The research technique used was focused group interviews, the so-called (FGI), conducted among women with features whose lives have issues that may hinder social functioning (low income and education, disability, old age, single motherhood, emigration). The conclusions from the research help to better understand the attitudes and problems of the respondents. It is believed that its impacts can be mitigated by developing and implementing the concept of active and healthy ageing. A large number of activities aimed at retaining older workers in employment can be created and carried out in the workplace with the participation of social partners, and many factors can support or hinder their cooperation.\u0000This qualitative study of barriers and facilitators to active ageing was carried out within a conceptual framework that combines the findings of rational choice theory, activity theory, and life course theory. Both barriers and facilitators are presented based on the opinions of Polish employers and trade union members collected during individual in-depth interviews (IDI) and workshop meetings (WM). These respondents and the research methodology used make the study the only one of its kind.\u0000As the first step, the five levels of barriers and facilitators to active ageing were identified: macro, sectoral and community, organisational, interpersonal, and individual. It turned out that the social partners believed that the majority of both barriers and facilitators to active ageing occurred at the macro level; therefore, only this perspective was presented.\u0000The interviews and workshop outcomes pointed to the need for cooperation and dialogue between active ageing stakeholders. The statistical analysis has allowed to draw the following conclusions. There are differences in the levels of achievement motivation between respondents with secondary and higher education. The differences have also been seen in the level of achievement motivation, although only in terms of certain indicators, between people in a relationship and singles, not only older and younger but also those with shorter and longer periods of employment at their current workplaces. People over 35 years of age were more persistent in their actions and more motivated in planning the future than the younger ones. Employees with the least seniority also perceived the value of time better and were characterized by a lower level of conformism than those employed for more than 15 years. In turn, those in a relationship had a higher level of aspirations, better planned the future (taking into account the time perspective) and appreciated the value of time more than employees without life partners.\u0000The results of the research can be used both for the selection of social workers and as a guidance in development of their psychological potential e.g. in the course of supervision.\u0000\u0000

To achieve this goal, a conceptual apparatus derived from the concept of settlement infrastructure was used. This apparatus made it possible to distinguish features related to: the availability of housing and other forms of shelter, social and spatial accessibility of basic services, mainly municipal and social, as well as higher-order services and related social and spatial mobility issues of the unemployed in the inhabited space and the wider living space in search of work and social assistance. Most of them are carried out at school, but require the cooperation of many institutions at the same time: a social welfare centre, school, library or museum. This is one of the challenges of implementation. Another difficulty is the development of mechanisms at school through which teachers will be able to recognise that a pupil's problems in learning or in his/her relations with peers are due to certain negative patterns at home, and as a result he/she cannot count on the kind of support that children of parents who are higher in the social structure receive. In other words, the measures designed are intended to support the school to the extent that it provides social capital to children from disadvantaged families. The very specific circumstances of testing the above-mentioned actions were not without significance. This coincided with the period of the Sars-Cov-2 pandemic, which challenged the school's discharge of its basic duties towards its pupils. It is worth noting here that the school of the time of the pandemic has even fewer tools for equalising opportunities for children than in normal times.\u0000\u0000

The second part of the article presents methodological assumptions of the research and the results regarding growing up in institutional foster care. Qualitative research using the method of individual cases was carried out in May 2021 with the charges of the “House of Return” in Białystok. The concept of qualitative data analysis by Matthew B. Miles and A. Michael Huberman was used to analyze the empirical material. In the light of the research, the charges function properly in the care and education centre for children and young people, the experience of growing up in an orphanage is not a trauma for them, but they have difficulties with establishing close relationships, they lack a significant adult, and are also not very self-reliant.\u0000\u0000

The context of the life course policy mentioned in the analyzes is justified by the institutionalization of tasks related to functioning in society typical of completed adulthood: completing education, taking up employment, setting up your own household and family. The so-called delayed transition into adulthood means an increasingly later implementation of these tasks. The barriers to reaching completed adulthood discussed in the article mean that this process becomes a social problem that should be prevented by public activities. The article synthetically summarizes the results of the research “Public policies for full adulthood in Poland” (National Science Center No. 2014/15/B/HS5/03284). The aim of the considerations is to indicate the level of coherence and coordination in the creation and implementation of political and institutional instruments that would support young adult Poles in the process of reaching full adulthood in the above-mentioned dimensions. Furthermore the paper presents a review of selected approaches to social economy, including definitional approaches, e.g. those specific to Anglo-Saxon and continental traditions. It discusses the context in which it emerged and developed as a phenomenon in the public policy and economic areas. It analyses the dynamics of social economy development in Poland, including institutional environment and selected mechanisms of public management. It stresses that top-down initiatives – including those of the central government and the EU institutions – are a key element in making the social economy dynamic in developing the forms of activity (in view of the weakness of endogenous factors). In the first part, the author returns to the classic text by C.P. Snow entitled Two Cultures 1959, and justifies its obsolescence by claiming that in recent decades, the natural sciences have become closer to the traditional humanities and have undergone a kind of 'philosophizing', while knowledge accumulated in the humanities and social sciences is increasingly organized by seeking answers to questions of a practical nature. The author's comment boils down to a statement that this is a very unfortunate course of events because, among other things, before we start answering questions about how to achieve these or other goals, it is good to know that it is worthwhile to achieve them. In short, it is not out of the question that the gradual elimination of classical questions about meanings and values from the humanities and social sciences contributes to highly ambivalent assessments of 'modernity'. In the second part, the author does not ask about the rationale behind the objection to various discriminatory practices, but he does ask how - within the framework of the "Potentials..." project - these mechanisms were tried to be dealt with, using the key elements of the so-called "behavioral economics", and he describes the experiences connected with it.\u0000\u0000
