We propose an efficient approach based on inter-frame difference (IDF) to handle the hand movement tracking, which is shown to be more robust in the accuracy aspect compared to skin-color based approaches. Computational efficiency is another attractive property that our approach greatly improves the processing frame rate to fulfil the demand of a real-time hand gesture recognition system.","PeriodicalId":338038,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/ACIS 9th International Conference on Computer and Information Science","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121883741","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The order relation of the workflow net is the important information to describe the parallel relation, sequential relation and choice relation. From the state of the art of Petri net theory, there are two basic approaches for to analyze the order relations of the work-flow net: state space method and invariant method. State space method based on the reachability graph usually encounters the state space explosion problem. To avoid the state space explosion, we propose LMST-invariants according to the particularity of the workflow net, and calculate the order relations with invariant method.","PeriodicalId":338038,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/ACIS 9th International Conference on Computer and Information Science","volume":"62 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123245983","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a prefetching strategy, we adopt the sequential pattern mining, a variant of association rule mining. Our goal is to minimize overall I/O processing time of hybrid storage systems with using the Fully Associated Sector Translation (FAST) technique that is known to be the best mapping method in managing flash memory. It is very significant to further enhance the system performance of the hybrid storage when applying FAST to it. In our work, the hybrid storage uses the flash memory as a cache space to improve system performance. With this memory architecture, the proposed method is to prefetch objects onto ‘prefetching’ blocks in the level of both file and block in hybrid storage systems. Through extensive experiments using real UCC data and synthetic data, we show that the proposed prefetching method outperforms conventional ones.","PeriodicalId":338038,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/ACIS 9th International Conference on Computer and Information Science","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123129892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this paper is to analyze mobile carrier choice behavior and clarify the customer segments and their decision-making factors. We classify mobile phone customers into two groups: churning customers and stable customers. Customer segmentation is carried out based on survey data for each customer group in order to clarify the decision-making factors. We propose a new service choice modeling with regard to mobile carriers based on the customer segmentation results.","PeriodicalId":338038,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/ACIS 9th International Conference on Computer and Information Science","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129523046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is one of the most important educational system in which students can freely select the lecture based on their preferences and purpose. Elective subject is expected to increase student’s motivation for learning because this has high flexibility. But, because mechanical lecture allocation mechanisms used by many universities don’t consider student’s preferences and purpose, existing trivial mechanism cannot bring out the effects of elective subjects. Especially when the number of student who attend a lecture exceeds the seating capacity, the university choose student by lottery or first-arrival basis and provides with the right to attend a lecture. Lecture allocation problems are widely researched by a lot of researchers. However, in most of existing researches, the lecture allocation systems have a complicated input methods and interfaces to make student’s indicate their preferences. Student’s ability to input his/her preferences depends on the experience and knowledge. It is different by each students have. This paper proposes an adaptive interface design model in lecture allocation system. The model changes adaptive interface design based on student’s ability. In our method, first, when students use the system for the first time, they declare their abilities. Second, when students operate the system, the system gets operational logs. Then the system design and interface for each student in subsequent use. System interfaces are defined base on user model which is constructed by features of user behavior defected through our preinvestigation. Advantages of our proposed methods and model are as follows. First the interface supports student’s operations. Second, student can input his/her preferences precisely. As the result, lecture allocation is conducted effectively.","PeriodicalId":338038,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/ACIS 9th International Conference on Computer and Information Science","volume":"323 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132203318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To stem the decline in stock prices, short-selling regulations have been implemented in many markets. However, their effectiveness remains unclear. In this paper, we discussed the effectiveness of short-selling regulation which was invoked temporarily after the market satisfies a regulation condition using an artificial market. First, we proposed an artificial market in which short-selling was regulated after the market satisfied the regulation condition. Next, we observed price variations in the markets in which the durations of short-selling regulation were different and discussed the bubble mechanism of them. Then, we observed the correlation between market stability and regulation periods and it was found that the longer the regulation period was, the more instable markets were. Therefore, we have found short-selling regulation had the property that it not only stemed the decline in the prices but also increased the prices excessively and market instability increased with increasing regulation period. Finally, we determined performances of each agent type in the market in which the regulation was invoked.","PeriodicalId":338038,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/ACIS 9th International Conference on Computer and Information Science","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134166747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose a new method called LEAF: LEAve-one-out Forward selection method for analysis of the gene expression data. Our proposed method has made it possible to construct the ranking of informative genes using the parameter which evaluates the efficiency of the class discriminant called Discriminant Power Score (DPS). We apply the LEAF to the three kinds of leukemia dataset (ALL/AML, ALL/MLL and MLL/AML), in a public database. Consequently, our method showed a stable discriminant result with 100% accuracy by the discriminant model which used the three genes set. Furthermore, it was shown that some genes with high DPS are genes related to the cancer clarified by research in recent years. In conclusion, our class discriminant method provides a high accuracy and simply result and supports discovery of a new biomarker. Our compatible method (LEAF) will be a useful tool for many researchers engaged in bioinformatics.","PeriodicalId":338038,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/ACIS 9th International Conference on Computer and Information Science","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125552123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
