This paper aims to develop a system which promotes efficient learning by a web-based system and facilitates active learners’ participation through game competition for an e-commerce topic, auction agent programming. The game competition is about an auction among travel agencies to bid resources for their clients. All travel agencies are actually software agents programmed by learners. The agent performs best in terms of profit and utility would be the winner. This competition encourages learners to think, discuss and apply their understanding.","PeriodicalId":338038,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/ACIS 9th International Conference on Computer and Information Science","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127264729","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The usage of user-centred methods is motivated and a combination of two user-centred methods suggested. Furthermore this method is combined with other techniques to additionally detect the state of satisfaction within the user. User based factors like emotions, opinions, cognitive and conative aspects are therefore considered. A method for the joint evaluation of all data gathered is proposed.","PeriodicalId":338038,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/ACIS 9th International Conference on Computer and Information Science","volume":"130 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122318117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Main models of the CAM are the continuous and discrete CAM. Rotor Associative Memory (RAM) is based on high-dimensional neurons. Especially 2-dimensional RAM includes the continuous CAM. It is known that the storage capacity of the 2-dimensional continuous RAM is approximately twice as large as that of the continuous CAM. The discrete RAM has been proposed by Kitahara et al. Moreover they proposed the chaotic RAM and showed that the RAM has far fewer spurious states than the CAM. But the fundamental abilities, such as storage capacity and noise robustness, have never been studied at all. In the present paper, they are investigated by computer simulations. The computer simulations will show that the storage capacity and noise robustness of the discrete RAM are better than those of the CAM. Moreover the ability to retrieve the phase changes is investigated. The CAM has an inherent property of rotation invariance so that it cannot retrieve the phase changes. The RAM does not have such property and can retrieve the phase changes.","PeriodicalId":338038,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/ACIS 9th International Conference on Computer and Information Science","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127767502","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the study is to improve a method for tracking dynamic topics that have been developed for visualizing a long meeting transcript. The recency effect observed from the appearance of terms in discourse context, the coreferential recency effect, is an important factor to deal with dynamic transition of topic. Statistical analysis using a corpus of meeting transcripts quantitatively clarifies the relationship between linguistic features and the coreferential recency effect.","PeriodicalId":338038,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/ACIS 9th International Conference on Computer and Information Science","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127938687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Between the increasing computational capabilities of these devices, their ubiquity, and the availability of dozens of development environments, new applications for these devices are being produced daily by large companies and independent software entrepreneurs. As a result, many researchers are interested in the computational strength and potential of mobile devices. While benchmark tests for desktop and laptop processors are readily available, there are very few benchmarks available for the processors used in mobile devices. Rather, the data for mobile device capabilities are primarily limited to the usability of the devices, tests regarding overall features, and battery capacity. However, one of the major challenges of the on-going trend of researchers migrating computationally intensive algorithms originally designed for desktops to mobile devices is the lack of fundamental understanding of the computational capabilities of the processors of mobile devices. In order to address this significant gap in the research and to provide programmers with a better understanding of the computational capabilities and limitations of these devices, this research devised and ran a series of benchmark tests on several popular mobile phones. This paper describes the nature of the benchmark tests developed, presents the results, and highlights some of the interesting limitations which were identified in the process.","PeriodicalId":338038,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/ACIS 9th International Conference on Computer and Information Science","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130151623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this architecture, the contention is avoided by allocating a dedicated channel for every packet which may be ejected simultaneously, which make sure that packets in the network can be ejected promptly, and thus the number of packets stayed in the network is decreased and the communication performance is improved. Results show that compared with traditional ejection architecture, the proposed architecture improves the communication performance greatly with reasonable area increase.","PeriodicalId":338038,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/ACIS 9th International Conference on Computer and Information Science","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122230034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The growing recognition of the urgency to reduce risks and production costs is motivating the development of improvements in the traditional manufacturing industry using IT convergence. This paper describes the IT convergence application which is a combination of traditional dust chamber industry and the Internet, using Power Line Communication (PLC). At first, we developed a connection method between a differential pressure transmitter that is a sensor of the dust chamber and PLC modem. Also, we designed a message format to transmit the data from a PLC modem to a user and from a user to a PLC modem. The transmission data unit in the PLC modem is a byte and we defined the n-bytes message format. In addition to that, we developed a parsing module and object modeling, dust chamber modeling and event modeling, based on XML (eXtensible Markup Language) using the object-oriented modeling method. And we applied a calculation to find the optimal exchange time for dust chamber bags. The experimental results on the developed system are also presented.","PeriodicalId":338038,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/ACIS 9th International Conference on Computer and Information Science","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125144410","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Services can be developed by different developers and be subscribed by different service consumers. Because of the loosely coupled nature, Service-based applications can be typically highly dynamic and unstable. That means services can be moved, deleted, and are subject to faults. However, it is hard for service consumers and service providers to address these faults in their own method. In this paper, we define roles of service broker within interactions between service consumers and service providers and propose a method to improve fault tolerance by using fault tolerant natures in reliable manager. Based on this, services can be dynamically selected; therefore, we can achieve good service reliability.","PeriodicalId":338038,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/ACIS 9th International Conference on Computer and Information Science","volume":"254 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125789896","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These businesses are supported by specialist IT engineers, and so a great number of enterprises require their service. In addition, the number of institutions that train information processing engineers is increasing to meet the demand. However, the demand for such talented people is not being fully met. One possible reason is that many of the people entering training institutions lack the perseverance needed to learn programming languages. To solve this problem, our research team has devised a system that supports group study and the learner's motivation as regards studying programming languages.
