Especially it’s about language sources that are used in the marketing technologies of Ukrainian political parties in the creating of some political brand-name.\u0000The essences of such terms as political brand / branding, political name / naming are found out throw the prism of interpretive linguistics and psycholinguistics. Political names are presented in formal and lexical-semantic connections. Political brand-names are qualified as mental units of the conceptual picture of the world, which accumulate various associative icons, concepts, ideas, assessments and are capable of instilling trust and creating a positive image. The focus is on complexity to find a way out of the labyrinths of the naming space for the average elector. These labyrinths contain the number of objects, renaming, consonance, duplication, etc. that don’t contribute to adequate perception, understanding, but on the contrary, lead to disorientation. Comprehension of the structure and content of political names is mostly impossible without special background knowledge, linguistic skills, etc., directly depends on the level of political culture of the electorate and civic position.","PeriodicalId":33056,"journal":{"name":"Slavistica Vilnensis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140444545","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research material includes phraseological units in Lithuanian, Polish, Belarusian, and Russian with the components crow and raven. The analysis encompasses phraseologisms found in both vernacular and literary sources, applying the theory of conventional figurative language and the comparative method. Special attention is given to the portrayal of crows and ravens in folklore and folk beliefs. The findings reveal a predominantly negative perception of both birds in Lithuanian and Slavic phraseology and ethnic culture. The main features of the image of a crow and raven, which have developed in Lithuanian and Slavic phraseology and ethnic culture, are based on such characteristics as: black feathers, predatory behaviour, an unpleasant voice (the cry is mythologized, and it is associated with misfortunes and death). The image of the crow is often ironic and comical, while the image of the raven is much more negative. The crow is a cultural symbol of foolishness, while the raven is associated with wisdom. However, both Lithuanian and Slavic phraseology have their own peculiar images of the crow and the raven.","PeriodicalId":33056,"journal":{"name":"Slavistica Vilnensis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140442348","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The globalization of the English language as a result of the information revolution and of all human activity is an unprecedented phenomenon in the world language system that is altering widely held beliefs about literacy and foreign languages. The main hypothesis of the study is an increase in the number of borrowed words in the speech of the Ukrainian youth. The paper attempts to analyze the trends in the use of the loanwords that have Ukrainian one-word equivalents over 5 years, from 2016 to 2021. To obtain data on the use of loanwords, respondents aged 15–17 (school pupils), 18–20 (university students), and 21–23 (university graduates) have been interviewed. According to the problems mentioned, the article aims to describe the use of English loanwords in the Ukrainian language caused by language globalization. The study intends to explore whether Ukrainian speakers prefer to use English loanwords instead of the Ukrainian equivalents that are connected with the role of English in the educational system and whether gender is a significant factor in the use and further assimilation of English loanwords.","PeriodicalId":33056,"journal":{"name":"Slavistica Vilnensis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140443767","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is particularly focused on the conversion of other parts of speech into particles. The functional structuralist approach is adopted, which classifies parts of speech in terms of their syntactic-semantic role in the clause. The particle as a dynamic function word as well as a clause modifier is presented from both a theoretical and practical standpoint and thus the paper concerns both linguistic observations on particles and the practical, i.e. lexicographic, treatment of particles in Slovene texts. With true particles, the text often alternates between a stressed modal role expressing the speaker's evaluation of what is being commu- nicated, and a related connective role.Various situational contexts in communication cause syntactic-semantic inversions between the ex- pressive and connective roles to be very common and ordinary, thereby functionally likening particles to conjunctions. A particle as a nonmember of sentence has neither substantive nor grammatical in- dependent meaning and is therefore often in a conversion relationship with other parts of speech. In Slovene, it is thus confirmed that at least 25% of all particles especially due to their nonindependent generalized meaning, can be in a conversion relationship with other parts of speech. More frequent conversion relationships include interjection → particle, adverb → particle, conjunction → particle, noun → particle, verb → particle.","PeriodicalId":33056,"journal":{"name":"Slavistica Vilnensis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140444929","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They were guided by the common idea of vzajemnosti, i.e. promoting cultural activities among the Slavs, aimed at bringing nations together. In this regard, Orzeszkowa undertook many initiatives in cooperation with the Czech writer. The first was an attempt to publish in Polish the work The Fall and Rebirth of the Czech Nation, presenting the history of the Czechs. On the pages of the letters, the project of publishing an anthology works by famous Czech poets and prose writers translated by Czesław Jankowski, Bronisław Teodor Grabowski, Władysław Bełza and Wilhelmina Zyndram-Kościałkowska was discussed. The income from the sale of the publication was planned to be used to rebuild the National Theater in Prague (Národní divadlo), which burned down in 1881. The writer also organized a fundraising for this purpose at the “Orzeszkowa i S-ka” bookstore in Vilnius. The last undertaking was the intention to publish Orzeszkowa’s memories from her stay in Prague – it was to familiarize the reader with Czech culture. Even though some of the discussed plans were already advanced, they were not implemented, mainly due to tsarist decrees. This correspondence is therefore a valuable trace of the Polish–Czech cooperation between writers. The quoted fragments of Orzeszkowa’s letters to Jelínek are in the National Literature Museum in Prague (Památník Národního Písemnictví). They have not been released yet.","PeriodicalId":33056,"journal":{"name":"Slavistica Vilnensis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140442737","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of the study is to compare examples from manuals on correct speech by Alexander Valitsky and Alexander Lentovsky, to establish the linguistic consciousness of both Polish speakers at the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries, and the authors of the manuals. The book under review is an interesting and valuable contribution, complementing previous studies of the Polish language in the Kres. The authorship of the manual is attributed to Ivan Gorlitsky (1690–1777). It was apparently intended for Princess Elizaveta Petrovna. The article supplements the information on this source in the works by S. V. Vlasov, L. V. Moskovkin (2013, 2017), N. V. Kareva and M. G. Sharikhina (2022). The allegation passed down from work to work about the originality of Gorlitsky’s work is disputed. Evidence shows that a significant part of the grammar text corresponds to the textbook “The true principles of the French Language” (1757) by V. J. Peyton; it is assumed that both texts go back to a common source. Other fragments of Gorlitsky’s grammar go back to F. de Fenne’s «Institutio linguae gallicae» (1680). The examples are generously taken from J.-R. Peplier’s textbook (1689). Special attention is paid to the peculiarities of the material adaptation to the Russian reader. It is pointed out that Gorlitsky often altered the examples and supplemented his text with information about the Russian language.","PeriodicalId":33056,"journal":{"name":"Slavistica Vilnensis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140442941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The HTR model was created on the material of Romanian Slavonic early printed books from Târgovişte printing house: the Liturgikon from 1508 and the Teatraevangelion from 1512 from the oldest printing house managed by hieromonk Macarius, as well as the Apostle from 1547 from the printing house managed by Dimitrije Ljubavić. The most important result of the paper is the creation of the first version of the generic HTR model Macarius (named in honour of hieromonk Makarije, the first South Slavonic and Romanian printer) with exceptional performance – the percentage of incorrectly recognized characters (including accent marks) is only 2.7%. Research has shown that this HTR model can also be used for the automatic recognition of Romanian Slavonic early printed books published in the second half of the 16th century. HTR model Macarius together with Ground Truth data is available to all users of the Transkribus platform, which ensures its wider use, as well as the possibility for further improvement of its performance.","PeriodicalId":33056,"journal":{"name":"Slavistica Vilnensis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139957926","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
