The material is formed of 16 handwritten texts. They were divided into 8 groups which due to their common features form a single hypergroup. Unique insertions / omissions make distinctive features of the hypergroup. There are three significant insertions: a) the words тыми словы [in these words] are met three times in the pericope; b) expansion of the confession of Apostle Thomas in John 20.28; c) expansion of the general confession in John 20.31. The omissions are noted a) in John 20.20, where the words “And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side” are missing; b) in John 20.23 there are no words “and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained”. The characteristic features of the hypergroup also include the use of Cyrillic numerals for в [12], as well as unique substitution from singular to plural in John 20.29. The data presented in the article allows us to trace close textual relationship between certain groups. The Siltsya’s and the Ipatiev, as well as the Hypatian and the Uhlya groups intersect because of common features. It is noted that the groups Historical (Ис) and Drogoyevsky (Дг) are the most remote from their conditional origin (Siltsya’s manuscript copy). ","PeriodicalId":33056,"journal":{"name":"Slavistica Vilnensis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140444851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Verbal and semiotic code of fairy tales has been reconstructed on the basis of their bidirectional translation (translation of Folk Russian Tales by A. Afanasiev into Slovak and Czech and, vice versa, Slovak and Czech fairy tales translation into Russian). The article considers fairy formulas, namely, initial, middle and final ones proceeding from the archetypal structure, value and semantic dominants, as well as concepts of folklore texts (transformations and variants of plots and allomotives, typology of images and names of fairy-tale characters through the lens of V. Propp, S. Neklyudov, E. Novik and others’ views). The units under scrutiny are described both in terms of their equivalence, figurative structure, and possible translation transformations, as well as ways of transferring culture-specific elements and pragmes into foreign cultural folklore and semiotic space. The approach applied in the article presupposes cultural and semantic reconstruction of the predominant conceptual spheres actualized in fairy tales, particularly the ones of giving, the Way, 'us' and 'them', happy end and marriage (Russian motif of wedding feast), oppositions of the living and the dead, functions of fairy-tale loci, such as emptiness, chaos and cosmogonic representations associated with them. Moreover, the research analyzes modal, temporal, and syntactic characteristics of fairy-tale formulas, lexical and semantic substitutions, as well as compensations and equivalents in the target text.","PeriodicalId":33056,"journal":{"name":"Slavistica Vilnensis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140444867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All of them appeared in the 2nd half of the 18th century and were intended for the use in the Uniate, i.e., Greek-Catholic, Church. A text critical study of different texts from various parts of Tetraevangelia has suggested that the Gospel edition issued in Kyiv in 1746 was used by printers in Pochaiv to prepare their first liturgical Tetraevangelion.
 This publication is focused on the textual analysis of menologia present in early printed Cyrillic Tetraevangelia, with particular attention given to the saints and feasts, as well as verbatim correspondence of commemorations and liturgical rubrics. Its results allow to conclude that the first Tetraevangelion issued at the Holy Dormition Pochaiv Lavra in 1759, was prepared on the basis of the Gospel edition issued at the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra in 1746. Liturgical rubrics in the first Pochaiv Tetraevangelion were adjusted to the liturgical tradition of the Greek-Catholic Church. Four further Pochaiv liturgical Gospel editions copied, with some minor corrections, the menologion of the first one.","PeriodicalId":33056,"journal":{"name":"Slavistica Vilnensis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134973965","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It analyses the modern stage (1990–2000 years) of the study of this problematic. The review presents characteristics of both Belarusian and foreign (Lithuanian, Polish, Russian) historiography. The modern period is marked by the growing interest to the Old Believers in Belarus. As a result, a considerable volume of historical, ethnographic, linguistic and art history research has been published. A significant part of these studies is devoted to the Old Believer population of North-Western Belarus. The paper defines the main directions of scientific analysis of this problematic, characterizes methods and sources of the conducted research. We conclude that in spite of a rather significant volume of published researches, a number of important questions concerning the history, language and culture of Old Believers of North-Western Belarus have not been elaborated by now.","PeriodicalId":33056,"journal":{"name":"Slavistica Vilnensis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135435456","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This unique manuscript seems to be linked to the fervent translation activity directed by the archbishop of Novgorod Gennadii (1484–1504). The wide space left between the lines of the main Latin text was without doubt supposed to be filled with the Church Slavic corresponding text. A Slavic “translation” was indeed inserted into the biblical cantica and other texts, among which the hymn Te Deum, traditionally (and wrongly) considered to be a joint composition by Saint Ambrose and Saint Augustine, which was very widespread in the Western Church.
 The article features the first diplomatic interlinear edition of the Slavic-Latin Te Deum, which is preceded by a short description and analysis of the Slavic text and its main linguistic peculiarities in comparison with another translation of the same work, made some decades later by Dmitry Gerasimov. Here all relevant differences between the two Slavic versions, both at the lexical and grammatical levels, are presented and shortly discussed. Further, some evident errors in the Slavic text of the Chudov Psalter cast some doubts on the possibility to consider it a real translation in the strict sense of the term; it seems rather to function as a lexico-grammatical interlinear gloss, to be read vertically as an auxiliary tool for a proper understanding of the Latin original.","PeriodicalId":33056,"journal":{"name":"Slavistica Vilnensis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135481001","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These people are a language community that represents the dual identity of culture and language. Their first identity was formed on the Polish-Ukrainian borderland during the childhood and adolescence period. However, these people are part of the Upper Silesian speech community. They are strongly professionally and privately bound to the region.
 The paper is based on interviews with 33 people conducted at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. All of interviewers had secondary or higher education. The analysis refers to the opinions of respondents about the role of language in their own lives and in the activities of the displaced persons community. This work examines the social evaluation of variants and feelings that the language invokes, in particular, the Polish spoken in the former southeastern borderland compared to the Silesian dialect. It may be concluded that elements of the pre-war dialect of the city of Lviv constituted for these people an indicator of belonging to the community whereas the Silesian dialect was treated with reserve.","PeriodicalId":33056,"journal":{"name":"Slavistica Vilnensis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135547309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This region is inhabited by an autochthonous population comprising both Czech and Polish nationalities. Before moving on to the more important topics of the cultural and linguistic identity of the local Polish community, the author introduces Zaolzie from the geographical, social, political point of view. In addition to the majority Czech language and the standard Polish used in Polish minority schools, the Cieszyn dialect plays a significant role in local communication. Due to the unique political and social conditions in this region, a spoken mixed language called \"po naszymu\" has emerged. This language is not associated with any particular ethnic group, and it mitigates the differences between the various language codes while easing tensions between the two ethnic groups. The analysis of the spoken mixed language \"po naszymu\", carried out on the basis of extensive excerpts from authentic statements by Poles from Zaolzie in the \"O naszych po naszymu\" podcast, allows for several important conclusions: \"po naszymu\" speech does not have an unambiguous norm, which does not mean that it is the result of an accidental mixing of languages; it contains a lot of lexical Bohemisms; its phonetic and inflectional base is formed by the Polish dialect of West Cieszyn, nevertheless the users of \"po naszymu\" are aware of the incorrectness of their utterances in the sense of their incompatibility with the standard Polish language.","PeriodicalId":33056,"journal":{"name":"Slavistica Vilnensis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135547000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The beginning of an unprecedented scientific career of Vjačeslav Vsevolodovič was interrupted by a ruthless political campaign of the MGU management in 1959, which ended with Vjačeslav Vsevolodovič's expulsion from the university. Those in power at the time condemned Vjačeslav Vsevolodovič Ivanov for his public ne gation of the official verdict on the novel by B.L. Pasternak doctor Živago and in support of the scientific views of the world-renowned linguist prof. dr. Roman Osipovic Jacobson. The life and work of VJAČESLAV VSEVOLODOVIČ IVANOV, based on the many languages and the literatures that existed through them, which he researched and communicated to people (and especially to student youth) in a rarely encountered way, were through a constant intrusion in science about man and in art and closely linked with a deep humanism and an exemplary empathy.
 From the Editor. The memoirs of the famous German baltist Rainer Eckert about Vyacheslav Vsevolodovich Ivanov, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, director of the Institute of World Culture at Moscow State University and professor in the Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Literatures at the University of California, an outstanding scholar of encyclopedic outlook, are dedicated to the fifth anniversary of his death. The aim of the article is to reveal various ways of integrating Lithuanian and Russian nouns used in informal communication in the Polish language in Lithuania and to make attempts to answer the question of whether the degree of morphosyntactic adaptation can be used to determine the boundary between the loan words and effects of code-switching. The study is based on the linguistic material of the novel Robczik by Bartosz Połoński, in which the author fairly accurately reconstructed the slang of young people at the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st centuries. The analysis shows that in the case of typologically and genetically similar languages, foreign lexical items are incorporated into the syntactic structure of the language in several ways. However, the morphosyntactic integration of Lithuanian and Russian words is not a sufficient criterion to distinguish the phenomenon of borrowing from that of code-switching. Other criteria, such as phonological, which can only be applied to spoken linguistic material, may be of utmost importance.","PeriodicalId":33056,"journal":{"name":"Slavistica Vilnensis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134975098","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
