Many world media outlets reacted to this success with the articles not only of a news nature, but also with their own hypotheses regarding its causes. Therefore, the objective of the article is to investigate the reasons for the popularity of the TV series “Squid Game” based on reception of the world’s leading English-language media. Thus, the object of this study was the reports about the series “Squid Game” in “BBC News”, “BuzzFeed News”, “CNN”, “Financial Times”, “Forbes”, “London Review of books”, “NBC News”, “The New Yorker”, “The Guardian”, “The New York Times”, “The Wall Street Journal”, “The Washington Post”, “Time”, “New York Post”, as well as “Digital Trends”, “Impacter”, “The Sun”, “The Straits Times”, “Vox”, “USA Today”, “Vulture”, etc. The subject is their meaning palette. It was found that the global interest in the Korean cultural product was listed among the reasons for the popularity of “Squid Game” in the media; advertising in social networks from the users based on the principle of “word of mouth”; the genre “competition for survival”; the topic “economic inequality”, known to the most consumers; the heroes are selected from the different strata of population, which promotes empathy. In turn, we believe that the popularity of the series “Squid Game” is due to its relevance, namely: reflection of the modern viewer’s fears about the lack of money and debts, aggravation of conspiracy theories with the emergence of coronavirus pandemic and the markers of fairy tales familiar from childhood, which represent the same plots similar as in the series. Developing the citation by one of the journalists that the unexpected brutality of the show contributes to catharsis, we believe that, indeed, the series operates according to the scheme of the ancient Greek theater, where the main function of watching the heroes of drama was to clear oneself of one’s fears and problems.

The objective of the study is to reveal the structure of media narrative‟s segment formed by top bloggers in the key social media platforms and to identify the differences with similar structures in the traditional media. The automatic content analysis was used to gather the data about coverage of topics in different communicative spaces; the correlation analysis was used to identify correlations between top bloggers‟ focus on the topic and readers‟ responses on their posts, as well as attention of traditional media and attention of wider social media users to similar topics; the comparison method was used to detect differences between the fixed patterns from the same patterns in traditional media. The study shows that the audience‟s attention of top bloggers is formed by the principles that are entirely different from those in traditional media. While in both communicative spaces the readers‟ attention is defined by serial-structured media narrative, in the case of traditional media it is “serials” in fact: the reader first of all tracks “long” plotlines that are lasted for months and longer. In contrast of blog space, a reader tracks a media narrative in the format of “series”, focusing mainly on the short, event-based topics. This finding is important because this may indicate the specificity of media consumption of those part of audience that obtains the news just from social media. They more often consume information in fragments, focusing on debates related to the current topics without awareness of duration of political and economic processes, therefore it is easier to manipulate such an audience.

The object of the study is the nationalistic periodical publications in the interwar two decades period.\u0000\u0000The objective of the study is to ascertain the techniques of dissemination of discursive impact and construction of gender models, taking into account the ideological vector of a publication. The chosen research methodology is synthesis of critical discourse-analytical approach with feminist criticism, which allows to analyze the texts in the context of “domination/subordination”.\u0000\u0000Results of the study. The nationalistic publications consistently restored the patriarchal values in the western Ukrainian society on the eve of the 1920-1930’s. Their journalists constructed an idea of militaristic masculinity as a normative and used the following techniques: modeling a warrior’s image through comparison with a foreign model of normative masculinity, the narratives about dangerous actions and martyrdom of nationalist heroes, popularization of sport and physical hardness aimed at training of youth generation for the upcoming liberation war. The nationalists tried to deny the achievements of the Ukrainian feminist movement, in particular “Soiuz Ukraiinok”/”Union of Ukrainian Women”, had the fierce ideological discussions with the leadership of this organization on the pages of their publications.\u0000\u0000A woman was represented as a resource in terms of underground struggle against the invaders and in terms of the upcoming national liberation war. However, there were extremely few materials in which the heroines (actants) were women. The heroines in the nationalistic press were endued with three functions: biological, symbolic and ideological. In those materials, which still covered the women as the members of militant groups, military or political actions, their contribution was diminished and consealed.\u0000\u0000Сonclusions of the study. The patriarchal myth was revivaled on the pages of the nationalistic press of the 1920-1930s. According to nationalists the patriarchal structure of society served best the ideological tasks in order to prepare the Ukrainians for a long national liberation struggle.\u0000\u0000Relevance of the study. The methodology of the study is based on the principles of studying the processes in the\u0000field of mass media as an integral part of general political and social life. The study was conducted using a variety of disciplinary methods of scientific knowledge of reality. A sociological questionnaire as general scientific method of empirical research was chosen as the main method. The methods of classification, generalization, observation, statistical calculation were used at different stages of the study. Since 2014 after occupation of Crimea the data on violations of the rights of Crimean journalists, activists, free authors, and bloggers have been introduced into scientific circulation.\u0000\u0000The survey was conducted among 49 Crimean journalists and media representatives, among whom 43 participants lived in mainland Ukraine and 6 – in Crimea. For security reasons and to prevent pressure on journalists, the survey was anonymous and the journalist had the right not to provide personal data at his/her own request. The study represents the opinion and position of a separate group of Crimean journalists who performed professional duties in Crimea during the events of 2014. Due to objective reasons, it is currently impossible to conduct a comprehensive sociological survey to determine the position of Crimean journalists. Results of the study. The results of the survey form an idea of the Crimean professional media circle, which representatives, being the people with active life and civic position, unbreakable principles in civic position and professional activity – were forced to leave Crimea, because they rejected de facto the changed Crimean statehood. The analysis of journalistic materials, which deal with the cultural and educational topics, has demonstrated that the language norms are broken in them rather often. The objective of the research is to systematize the most frequently used mistakes in the journalistic materials on cultural-linguistic topics, and to define the reasons of their occurrence. For reaching this objective 85 articles and interviews devoted to the issues of language policy and culture of speech taken from popular Internet publicistic sources were chosen and analyzed. The number of collected mistakes (anormative lexis) is over 400. The following methods were used during the research of the selected material: the method of entire selection for choosing the texts and collecting the examples of anormative lexis from cross-media sources; the descriptive method for defining the essence of deviation from the language norm and for finding the reasons of this phenomenon; the methods of analysis and synthesis for systematizing and classifying the selected anormative lexis. The fulfilled research allows to assert that the publicistic texts devoted to cultural-linguistic issues contain less number of norm deviations than texts of other thematic spheres. Thus, they contain less number of mistakes in usage of paronyms, there were no cases of inappropriate usage of little known terms and rarely used words. However, due to the influence of the Russian language the frequency of word-building and semantic loan translation is still high. It can be explained by the lack of clear delimitation of two languages in the consciousness of texts’ authors.
