Traffic congestion has negative impact on economic, social, and environment development. The costs of congestion are borne by all users of the transport system, both drivers, passengers, entities providing transport services, as well as enterprises using freight transport services. The purpose of the article is to discuss the results of the study on the impact of congestion on the costs of public transport in a medium-sized city. The research method consisted in the analysis of vehicle road cards, fuel consumption statements for buses belonging to the Municipal Transport Company in Starogard Gdański and the examination of real bus travel times and the scale of delays caused by congestion on individual lines. The analysis of the data shows that thecompany bears much higher costs of fuel consumption, and passengers are exposed to bus arrivals and departures inconsistently with the timetable, prompting them to opt out of public transport services. This results in lower revenues from ticket sales and deterioration of the company’s financial result.","PeriodicalId":32605,"journal":{"name":"Research Journal of the University of Gdansk Transport Economics and Logistics","volume":"73 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73412331","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to aspects concerning, in particular, environmental protection, the most desirable phenomenon would be a significant reduction in the use of private vehicles (passenger cars) for collective transport (especially rail). This is possible especially when there is access to an extensive communication network. The time and cost of traveling with alternative transport is very important. Therefore, the purpose of the publication is to analyze the time efficiency of rail and private vehicle transport, between provincial cities in Poland, based on the designed indicator. It was based on the average length of travel time and the average distance between points. The study covered private cars and railway transport.","PeriodicalId":32605,"journal":{"name":"Research Journal of the University of Gdansk Transport Economics and Logistics","volume":"47 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84777404","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The same applies to the opportunities offered by the implementation of shared mobility services. According to this idea, car-sharing systems are currently present on six continents of the world and it is anticipated that by 2025 there will be over 36 million users worldwide sharing car-sharing services. In line with this trend, it is worth paying attention to aspects that will encourage the public to use car-sharing services. Because the price is one of the main factors for the society during making a decision about using car-sharing services, the author decided to analyze the costs of car-sharing mobility. In the text basic assumptions about car-sharing services and their development were presented. Then, the article showed the analysis of the cost of using services on six continents in the line of temporary and parking fees. In addition, the work also refers to the impact of the type of vehicle fleet on the price level. The aim of the work was to assess the occurrence of differences between the services offered and the relation between costs and the assumptions of sustainable transport development.","PeriodicalId":32605,"journal":{"name":"Research Journal of the University of Gdansk Transport Economics and Logistics","volume":"2 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89731355","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The negative impact of transport can be felt both in the natural environment and in society. However, the dynamic development of this sector has enabled significant civilization development, with the effects vary depending on the level of advancement, the level of economic development, the use of various transport sectors, geographical location as well as environmental natural. Considering the significant development of transport and the increase in its popularity, an important element for the industry is the use of the most efficient and affordable vehicles. In addition, with modern transport threats, it is important to prevent them or minimize not only for environmental reasons, but also for financial reasons. The article presents an economic analysis of the environmental and social burden of transporting goods by means of various means of transport. Economic analyzes of rail and road-rail vehicles were also taken into account. They focused on such aspects as: purchase, exploitation and comparative indicators.","PeriodicalId":32605,"journal":{"name":"Research Journal of the University of Gdansk Transport Economics and Logistics","volume":"40 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86278838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the same time, societies are more aware of environmental damage caused by transport, which is why the European Parliament developed a document titled An Aviation Strategy for Europe, which points out actions that should be taken inorder to make air transport more environmentally-friendly. One of the assumptions is to reduce the greenhouse gas’ emission. The European Parliament suggests the use of biofuels as one of pos-sible solutions to reduce the negative impact that air transport has on the natural environment. However, airplane manufacturers come up with different ideas how to reduce emission. Airbus in cooperation with Siemens and Rolls-Royce are working on an electrically powered aircraft. The project they are working on is called E-Fan X and it involves replacing one of airplane’s four turbine engines with an electric motor with a capacity of 2 MW. The first tests are to be performed next year. The paper describes the idea developed by Airbus, points out its advantages and disadvantages, and forecasts what impact the appearance of electrically powered aircraft will have on the environment and airline industry. The paper will be based on author’s own knowledge and gathered materials, and also on literature analysis, deduction and empirical research using non-experimental methods.","PeriodicalId":32605,"journal":{"name":"Research Journal of the University of Gdansk Transport Economics and Logistics","volume":"61 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84022816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
