Yet, that the most prominent users of social media are simply teenagers. Despite the variations of motive that may drive teenagers to use social media, the argument is that the use of social media, with whatever the motives, does have impacts on social life of the teenagers. This research deals with social media use and impacts by focusing on teenagers living particularly in the suburb area of Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java.By focusing on the impacts of social media on communication behavior, the research employs a quantitative approach of survey research which involved as many as 200 respondents. The result of the research shows that the level of the parent’s income influences the social media usage in the suburb area of Baki Sub-district, Sukoharjo Regency. Further, the present study attempts to investigate and better understand the process of making sense of the English tenses and aspects the students have applied in their academic writing. Thus, error analysis procedure is employed to see whether the students have applied correct tenses and aspects in a relevant context. Subsequently, quantitative analysis was conducted involving sixteen pieces of the student writings. Employing the procedure of Error Analysis (Corder, 1981), this study focuses on the covert errors that the students frequently made, which allow in-depth investigation beyond the grammatical errors. Additionally, to see a pedagogical implication of this research, a correlation between the number of errors and the score obtained from the writings were also investigated. The results revealed that the students’ attitude toward the use of tenses and aspects in an academic context is considerably low. It was frequently found that the students employed a particular tense and aspect in an irrelevant context. Also, a weak correlation between the two variables measured, the number of errors and scores, was revealed. Chinese Indonesians adhere to Sanjiao teaching. Sanjiao means Three Teachings; a syncretic form of three main religions or teachings: Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism. This form is strictly adhered by mostly Chinese Indonesians. Vihara Buddhi is located in Bandung, and operated by a group of priestesses called Zhai Ji, came from marginalized women of Hakka Tribe. As a result of syncretism in Sanjiao teachings, there are many kinds of ritual objects as artifact in the temple, derived from Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism. The most important amongst those artifact is (Mu Yi) wooden Fish, it is the most popular artifact and ritual object amongst Chinese Indonesian. Research questions: 1. What is the aesthetical value of wooden Fish in Vihara Buddhi, Bandung? 2. What is the philosophical value of the wooden Fish in Vihara Buddhi, Bandung? In this research i use qualitative methods: Direct observation, data collecting and interview. I use Eastern Aesthetic theory as an ideal approach to have a comprehensive result. The results confirm the aesthetical value of wooden Fish shown in the material and style of the artifact. The artifact is made from deep polished wood. Its round and hollow shape is designed in a certain way to fulfill its function as a ritual object which gives a certain sound when it is struck. The style of the artifact is similar to Japan wooden fish (mokugyo), and is different with Korea wooden fish (moktak). The speed of conveying information causes the process of making, distributing, and receiving news to be very different from the era of conventional mass media (newspapers, radio and television). Hybrid journalism that combines conventional journalism, online, and new media is a choice in the production of information. This paper focuses on post-production and distribution processes in conventional and online media by utilizing Instagram as social media. Through Instagram which prioritizes images, image and video combination, and interaction with readers directly, mass media managers share print and online media content to readers. Adjusting the Instagram character, the manager must reconstruct news which is already a raw fact reconstruction into a picture and caption as the news summary to readers. Can the summary be called news as the main elements are not shared on Instagram? The absence of balanced information and reversal of news elements also making questions about Instagram content of mainstream media. Very short information, taken from particular news perspective (two reconstructions) illustrates how the editorial ideology is dominant in the news story because the content on Instagram has eliminated important parts of balanced discourse. Polygamy is very sacred because relates to religious teachings. However, the sacredness of polygamy can shift if it enters the profane realm. When polygamy becomes a commodity as the main theme in the film, it has shifted polygamy from the sacred domain to the profane world. Films are produced to generate profits. Commodification of polygamy in the movie Air Mata Surga raises questions to be explored further. How the reception and what its implications for society against polygamy in this film are important questions to answer. To dismantle this, the Habitus theory developed by Bourdiue was used. The questionnaire and interview method are also used. The results of the study show that polygamy depicted in the film provides a different subtle affirmation to the audience that polygamy in certain situations cannot be avoided and polygamy is not always the same as what the media has built.","PeriodicalId":323186,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Third International Conference of Arts, Language and Culture (ICALC 2018)","volume":"10 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128176306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Indonesia Regional elections (Pilkada) are held simultaneously followed by some of the existing Regencies / Cities and Provinces. One of them is the election of the Governor of North Java Province. Ahead of the East Java Pilgub, there were many volunteers supporting each pair of Candidates (Paslon) of the Governor and Deputy Governor. They are proud to provide their support so that their idol leader can succeed in becoming the leader of East Java in the next five years. During the milineal period as it is today, volunteers began to look at social media as one of the tools to build voter support, especially first-time voters. One of them is the use of Facebook social media as a political tool. Through the account formed by the volunteer pair Khofifah Indar Parawangsa Emil Elistianto Dardak, and Syaifullah Yusuf Puti Guntur Soekarno was given various information about the election of the Governor. Both the activities carried out by the volunteers themselves, as well as the agenda of the Candidate Pairs in their efforts to gain voters' votes. Through Facebook, volunteers and candidate pairs can interact directly. This can be a way to strengthen the relationship between candidate pairs and sympathizers. It is undeniable that the support of these political volunteers is also building contestation among volunteers of East Java Governor Election candidate pairs. This study aims to see the role of one of the new media, namely Facebook in political marketing to build the support of volunteer candidates for the East Java Governor Election through a logical theory of composing messages. The method used is qualitative with Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis.
