When discussing the issues that concern human life, death, health, and in this relation the abuse of certain medical devices and treatments, it appears that the issues that give rise to the strongest controversy are the issues of euthanasia and abortion, the issue of organ donation, as well as the issues of surrogacy and in vitro fertilisation, especially in situations when the donor is anonymous. In this situation, the question of the child's right to know his/her biological origins may reasonably be raised, since this is one of his/her fundamental, guaranteed rights, the exercise of which does not depend, and can never depend, on the willingness of the state, i.e., its authorities, and individuals who participate in the birth of a child with the use of reproductive technologies. The question is raised as to whether the right to plan a family and the right to decide freely on having a child in these situations are in complete contrast with the right of the child to have access to the truth about his/her biological origins and biological parents, regardless of primary motivation for making decision on the participation in this process, this process also acquiring over time some elements of genetic engineering, and the result of which is a living being with conscience, emotional, social, and psychological needs, but also all the rights that derive from natural law, given by God, which exists independently of the legislator, that can govern any matter in a way that at a certain time (does not) correspond to a wider social consensus. The authors will present in this paper an overview of certain comparative legal solutions in this area, as well as court rulings that call into question the legality and ethics of the procedures implemented so far, as well as their consequences that we are still to face in the years to come, with the aim of establishing whether the right to decide freely on having a child in these cases and the child's right to know his/her biological origins are in complete contrast or whether these two rights may be reconciled after all.","PeriodicalId":32231,"journal":{"name":"Socioloski Pregled","volume":"46 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82375264","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this paper is to establish the condition of primary school education for members of national minorities and, based on this, to enable getting a better insight into steps to be taken in order to remove regulatory and practical shortcomings. Three models of primary school education in the languages of national minorities have been analysed: entire education in one of eight languages of national minorities, with Serbian as a non-mother tongue as a compulsory subject; entire education in the Serbian language with an option to take an elective subject/programme with elements of national culture (in the mother tongue); and bilingual education in Serbian and in the language of a national minority. Furthermore, empirical argumentation is presented for the period covering the academic years 2013/14 through to 2020/21. In the conclusion of this paper, it is noted that capacities of the educational system should be strengthened by introducing professional training for teachers of the languages of national minorities, which would ensure the availability of competent teaching staff. Additionally, appropriate curricula, textbooks and other teaching aids required for the learning of minority languages should be improved, in accordance with the latest teaching methods.","PeriodicalId":32231,"journal":{"name":"Socioloski Pregled","volume":"20 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84647654","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During the Cold War, bio-weapons were part of the arsenal of both world superpowers. The Convention prohibiting the production, storage, transfer and use of potential biological weapons (BWC) was signed 50 years ago. The question arises how sincere the signatory states were in its implementation. The rapid development of molecular biology has raised awareness about its potential misuse in terms of creating new and more dangerous bio-weapons, as well as the question of ethics in biomedical research. The anthrax campaign in the USA represents a turning point after which the use of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), including biological ones, has become part of the narrative that accompanies each war conflict. Epidemics and pandemics of avian and swine flu, Zika virus, SARS, MERS and COVID-19, as well as their implications, have proved the significance of a multidisciplinary approach to the study of microorganisms, their epidemiological, microbiological, genetic and antigenic characteristics, methods of their diagnosis, prevention and treatment, not only from the biomedical, but also from the security aspect. Perhaps the 50th anniversary is the right time to ask why the International Expert Body for controlling the implementation of the BTWC provisions has not been constituted yet.","PeriodicalId":32231,"journal":{"name":"Socioloski Pregled","volume":"12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90719941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors examine teachers' experiences (N=1117) (a) in relation to the justification of using electronic books and the attitudes of teachers and students of teacher education and pedagogy faculties (N=214) in relation to (b) the perspective of using different formats of books and (c) the universal values of the book, regardless of the format in which it was published. The research results show that teachers' motivation for using electronic books in teaching is mostly intrinsic; that teachers and future teachers agree in their attitudes regarding the use of electronic and printed books in the context of text media future development, as well as in their attitudes related to the universal values of the book in general, regardless of advantages and disadvantages of the format in which it was designed. The developed critical attitude of teachers and future teachers towards the potential of technological development of the book in the function of active knowledge building is significant from the aspect of the functionality of modern media in the educational context, bearing in mind that the key role in designing the learning process with the use of modern technology actually belongs to the teacher.","PeriodicalId":32231,"journal":{"name":"Socioloski Pregled","volume":"117 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85813564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, what is in the focus of this \"research reformation\" of the team of authors are definitely new models of (self)employment that, as it can be clearly seen in the authors' statements, arise or have arisen as independent paradigms in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic. On the other hand, the pandemic encouraged the conduct of a number of compatible studies whose socio-psychological comparisons are used by the authors as a basis to justify their originality. The monograph clearly emphasizes the demarcation claims of working from home, as well as other \"horizon of information existence\", or a new entrepreneurial culture. Therefore, apart from the ever more present work culture that is reflected in working from home in informatic capitalism, our task is also to show the results of indicating the possibility of legal, economic and socio-psychological development of freelancers as an entrepreneurial layer in the Serbian society.","PeriodicalId":32231,"journal":{"name":"Socioloski Pregled","volume":"28 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84088086","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, practical problems and specifics of this type of public communication indicate that commenting online is significantly different from the initially predominant idealistic assumptions. The aim of this paper is to investigate how and to what extent Internet users in Serbia are involved in online commenting, why and how they see the impact and significance of this phenomenon as a whole. The research was conducted by means of a questionnaire completed by 225 respondents. The results were analyzed by descriptive and comparative statistical methods and indicate that less than a half of the citizens do comment online, that most of them do not think it is possible to change other people's opinions in this manner, but they still consider it important and influential. Certain differences have also been observed in relation to the respondents' age and level of education.","PeriodicalId":32231,"journal":{"name":"Socioloski Pregled","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90933989","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study on the youth in Serbia (N = 453) is aimed at exploring: 1. factorial structure of favourite leisure activities, 2. their contribution to well-being, along with socio-demographics, physical health, and engagement on social networks, and 3. whether and how results differ depending on operationalization of the criterion variable (subjective happiness, SH vs. satisfaction with life, SWL). More precisely, ever since the World in Serbia project was first launched in 2010, the number of international beneficiaries of scholarships has been a continuous increase but so far, no research of this population has been done. Results from the past, as well as the launching of the World in Serbia study programme, have inspired us to choose temporary migration of international beneficiaries of student scholarships in Serbia in the 21st century as the subject of our research. The purpose of this paper is to define the profile of international beneficiaries of student scholarships, whose education is funded by the Government of the Republic of Serbia funds, but also to establish motivation that led these students to their decision to study in Serbia. For this reason, we have conducted the research on the basis of a survey, on a sample of 126 international beneficiaries of student scholarships.","PeriodicalId":32231,"journal":{"name":"Socioloski Pregled","volume":"15 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91028470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
