{"title":"The Review of the International Voices on the Responses of the Worldwide School Closures Policy Searching during Covid-19 Pandemic","authors":"Sarjdana Orba Manullang, E. Satria","doi":"10.25217/ji.v5i2.1036","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.25217/ji.v5i2.1036","url":null,"abstract":"This article was to determine the voice of the international community in responding to the challenges of school closure policies during the 2019 Covid-19 pandemic. Effort to break the chain transmission of Covid-19 was believed to be closely related to the closure of all business activities including schools around the world. In order to understand the impacts and challenges of school closure, a series of critical searches were undertaken on various online sources, for instance news updates publications, practitioners, and school reactions to unplanned global policies to obligate students learning from home. The collecting data was analyzed using a qualitative phenomenological approach and in-depth interpretation to at the collective voice fulfills the reliability and validity of the research problem. The findings indicated that 16 international voices from different perspectives show relatively deep concern about school closures. Voices from these discussions were matched with existing questions and knowledge about difficulties resulting from school closures. The findings of this study can be categorized into three votes; First are voices in support of the national school closure policy. Second, questioning national policies without prior data. Third, there is concern that families face serious challenges in supporting children learning from home with low facilities and the ability to handle student needs. Therefore, these voices would provide essential insights for further decision-making regarding community school participation in supporting of government in fighting the coronavirus epidemic. It was predicted that the society is not ready to face this era if they analyse moral cases occur in West Java. Most people who adhere to this religion of Islam, have not been able to fully realize the Islamic values in daily life. Ideally, education as a mediator in dealing with these cases presents a solution. Therefore, this article was to provide a basic inspiration regarding the innovation of the Islamic education curriculum based on the values of Sundanese cultural characters. This research uses library research’s method by using inductive-deductive analysis as well as a comparison of literature and content analysis techniques. The result showed that the presence of an Islamic education curriculum based on cultural Sundanese character values could emerge a generation that upholds culture and Islam. This school was an excellent school who integrated with an orphanage, founded in 2012. The researchers used descriptive qualitative methods though Purwoko’s theory. Observation, interview, and documentation were used in this collecting data. While, analysing data used triangulation technique. The obtained data was to analyzed by referring to the models of Miles and Huberman analysis with the steps of data reduction, data model (data display) and the withdrawal of conclusions. The result showed that the school used curriculum based on combination from government curriculum and local curriculum, but in the process of daily learning was adjust to condition of children. Learning facilities was available. Hence it can interfere with the learning process. The illustration enclosed the kinds of authentic assessment, the implementation and the problems encountered by the English teachers. The subjects were two English teachers and 36 students. Observation checklist, questionnaire sheet and interview guideline were used as the research instruments. This is descriptive research and analyzed by qualitatively. The results showed that kinds of authentic assessment implemented by the two English teachers were oral interview, observation, writing sample, project, constructed-respond item and performance by score 45,55% with “poor category”. Although they have maximized their effort, they did not do better on the preparing, scoring, and reporting. Hence, the students should have high-oder thinking skills and lecturers must be able to create learning that was able to achieve these demands. This study examined the effect of Blended Learning and Project Based Learning in improving the students’ Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS). This research was an experimental research with a quasi-experiment design type. The sample of this research was 90 students from Primary School Teacher Education Department at State University of Padang. This research proven that the obtained t count = 4.374 with df = 392.24 and sig (1 way) = 0.000 where sig (1 way) <0.05. It concluded that there was an improving of students’ HOTS ability that learned using Blended Learning and Project Based Learning rather than of using Blended Learning only. This research of using Blende-Learning and Project Based learning could improve on students' higher-order thinking skills. This artilce aimed to explore the application of communal ownership for higher education from management and economics. The method used literature review of books, manuscripts and publications of scientific journals. This article aimed to obtain the effect of exogenous variables on endogenous variables of research and this research use Path analysis. Subjects were principal and teacher in Lhokseumawe Islamic School. The sample was 108. Based on the hypothesis testing can be concluded: (1) there was a direct effect Principal Leadership to Islamic School Effectiveness by t count ρ31> t table α=5%(3,787> 1,659); (2) there was a direct effect Teacher Commitment to Islamic School Effectiveness by t count ρ32> t table α=5%(3,481> 1, 659).
