Due to this increasing consumption and continued unsustainable collection from the wild habitats and dwindling cultivation practices, numerous high altitude medicinal plants are now on verge of extinction from the wild sources. Variable price status, production limitations, biodiversity rules &regulations and lack of trust among supply chain are preventing producers from taking up continued cultivation practices. Inula racemosa Hk.f. is one of them which belong to family Asteraceae locally known as Manuand traded as Pushkarmool. It is a rare perennial alpine herb having restricted wild habitats in India. Pushkarmool is widely used in traditional codified and non-codified medicines in India and Tibet.The species take two to three years for producing its yields as root parts for the Ayurvedic medicine and there is no sustainable way, harvesting practices for the conservation of this species. The present study explained steps followed by the private and public partnership. It is a case study which was started in the years 2007-08 by the LMS (Lahaul Medicinal Plant Society) and Dabur India Limited has jointly put the joint efforts to bring Pushkarmool under commercial cultivation. The LMS had played a key role in coordinating and mobilizing the self-help groups (SHGs), government and non-government organization and other institutions in the district Lahaul & Spiti to help privileged local farmers to link up with reliable markets of the raw material with a tie up with Dabur India Ltd, New Delhi. We can promote the cultivation of such medicinal plants by involving the local farmers and bringing these under cultivation which not only helps the conservation of the species, but this has also helped to provide the extra income to the local and native farmers and play a critical role in enhancing their livelihood. The study may be considered as test case for successful conservation by bringing species domestication for the commercial cultivation.","PeriodicalId":31687,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mountain Area Research","volume":"25 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81620374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The plant is undergoing apocalyptic decline due to which it has been listed as a threatened species. Measures should be taken at an earliest to conserve this species. Natural Propagation through seeds and seed establishment is rare and problematic in this species. To overcome such problem, an attempt has been made to conserve this threatened plant species through Air-layering. Two auxins namely IBA (Indole Butyric acid) and IAA (Indole acetic acid) in different concentration were used in spring and rainy season to induce rooting in stem cuttings. IBA at 50 ppm in spring season showed maximum number of roots and root length as 9±1 and 7.92±1.22 cm respectively. In rainy season IBA at 50 ppm showed maximum number of roots 24±5.47 with root length 9.88±0.342 cm. Air-layered branched treated with IBA 50 ppm had shown maximum number of roots as well as root length in rainy season. The well rooted branches were transferred and planted to polybags for hardening. Present study showed vegetative propagation through Air-layering when propagation through seeds in nature is scare. This method is cost-effective with large scale production rate in relatively shorter period of time","PeriodicalId":31687,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mountain Area Research","volume":"593 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84707644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Only those Geomagnetic storms for which Dst index falls below -100nT are chosen and the period selected is from 1996 to 2006. The investigation is done in two ways: 1) by considering each storm separately and 2) by considering the storms occurring in succession as single storm and assessing their cumulated effect. For doing so, the solar and interplanetary data like solar wind speed, interplanetary magnetic field etc. are observed and correlated with Dst index. Thus, the two ways of investigations are compared and analyzed.","PeriodicalId":31687,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mountain Area Research","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89612801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since ancient times, they have been used to treat a variety of human illnesses all throughout the world. Our study focused on assessing the antimicrobial activities and antioxidant activities of Eclipta.alba (prostrata) crude extracts (whole plant) using the in-vitro method. Different polarity-based solvent extracts of Eclipta.alba (prostrate) were screened against ESBL producing pathogens such as Esherichia coli, klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter aerogens, Proteus mirabilis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Out of all the tested extracts, aqueous extracts of E. alba exhibited the most effective activity against K. pneumoniae (18±0.577). Results obtained from all the extracts were compared with standard antibiotic amikacin. The antioxidant activity was determined using a DPPH assay and the data obtained showed that extracts of E. alba (prostrate) were highly antioxidant. GC-MS and HPLC analysis revealed the presence of significant bioactive compound. The reference compound used to compare the results of antioxidant values was Gallic acid. The study provides valuable evidence of the antibacterial activity of of E.alba (prostrata) crude extracts (Whole plant) in curing Urinary Tract Infections.","PeriodicalId":31687,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mountain Area Research","volume":"24 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88218207","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present paper deals with the case study conducted in four development blocks of Dehradun state (Doiwala, Sahaspur, Raipur and Vikasnagar) in Western Himalayan region from September 2020 to December 2021. We highlight standardized questionnaire based strategy including interviews of key stakeholders (Village head representatives, Education department, Development block officers, Representatives from Municipalities and Pollution Control Board) to evaluate present status of e-waste generation and awareness among communities. The results from the survey revealed that communities have low awareness level about e-waste management rules and regulations, its impact on environment and human health and formal and informal e-waste recycling processes. Besides, we organized training program to various stakeholders for making and repairing of LED bulbs, tube lights and creation of decorative sticks and bamboo carved lamps with respect to e-waste minimization and handling, which has resulted in providing a livelihood opportunity to the community. Folk media workshops (Short film, rap song, posters, leaflets, standees, puppet plays, street shows) were also organized together with launching of “EKU” (E-Waste Management and Minimization) campaign to spread awareness about systematic scientific management of E-waste in a simple and local language. Various e-waste minimization centers were established in Dehradun district on the basis of community recommendations. The study recommends that e-waste management, mitigation and recycling can be accelerated by promoting community awareness campaign, educating them about the benefits of scientific recycling of e-waste and making e-waste recycling as part of their livelihood source.","PeriodicalId":31687,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mountain Area Research","volume":"505 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76392988","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the paper is to study the trend of per capita consumption of electricity in Uttarakhand during the years 2011 to 2019. The regression techniques with linear regression, quadratic regression and exponential regression were used to carry analysis and to examine trends between number of years and per capita consumption of electricity in kwh (kilowatt hours). The present study suggests the best fit model by comparing R square, adjusted R square and residual means square error (RMSE). The finding suggests that the quadratic regression model is the best fit model for per capita consumption of electricity with R square (coefficient of determination) of 0.95 for forecasting of electricity consumption per capita in Uttarakhand. This will support policy makers and related sectors in order to meet the growing demand of electricity consumption of Uttarakhand.","PeriodicalId":31687,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mountain Area Research","volume":"130 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76162936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
