Understanding this issue is important because online learning is generally a new thing for students in Indonesia; thus, the exploration of students` perceptions would be the key to unpack the challenges in an online classroom context faced by the students. To investigate the issue, a case study was employed. This methodology allowed the researchers to delve into the problems by interviewing students using semi-structured interviews in a higher education institution. In this study, 6 students from different study programs agreed to participate and become the interviewees. To explore this topic, this research employed a model of predictors for effective online learning. Based on the analysis of the findings, most of the students believed that online learning was less effective compared to offline learning. The reasons are due to the inefficiency of learning tools, less interaction between teachers and students, teachers` lack of attention to students` workload and deadlines, disruptions coming from their home environment, and the challenges of managing time to join online classroom which led to the inflexibility of learning. The findings imply that there is a need to improve the learning management system and learning policy for both teachers and students to create a better learning atmosphere. Therefore, this study proposes that stakeholders should reconceptualize the teaching strategies and policies for the future of online learning.","PeriodicalId":312912,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Learning Innovation and Quality Education","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114977495","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to determine the readiness of Muslim families, especially parents in implementing the school literacy movement policy as an effort to form a literate generation with Islamic characteristics, and to analyze readiness in a complex manner both of facilities and family culture. This research was conducted on 70 parents or guardians of elementary school students. This study used the qualitative research method. Data were collected through observation and interviews. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman models. The results of the study were discussed from two aspects of the student literacy environment, namely the physical and non-physical environments. From these two environments, it can be concluded that there are four principles of the literate family: 1) The abundance of reading material. 2) Various texts based on the children's needs. 3) Literacy interaction. 4) Integrated and sustainable activity. From these principles, on average, the literacy interaction in the family is high enough only, and this is only related to the purpose of formal education, not been built in an integrated and sustainable way.","PeriodicalId":312912,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Learning Innovation and Quality Education","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125534994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to: 1) identify the results of students' critical thinking skills in solving math essay problems, 2) find out the common obstacles that hinder critical thinking skills, and 3) solutions in developing critical thinking skills. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative research using the TAP (Think Aloud Protocol) strategy which is described in narrative form. The subjects of this study were fifth-grade elementary school students. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, test questions, unstructured interviews, and documentation activities. The validation process uses triangulation of methods and data sources. The analysis technique was adopted from Miles and Huberman through four stages, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and concluding. The results showed: 1) The cumulative percentage of critical thinking skills of students was very religious were as many as 20% of students completed the given questions with fairly low abilities, 2) The obstacle was the lack of mastery of calculation concepts, especially in numbers with large numbers, as well as confusion in understanding and interpreting the relationship between questions, 3) The solution is that teachers can teach math learning concepts that are close to students' lives, and provide more practice questions to develop reasoning activities for students. The conclusions in the study show that the process of students' critical thinking skills in solving questions tend to focus more on seeing problems and analyzing related answers written in the questions, then solved to determine answer choices using the appropriate formula based on what is known and asked in the question.","PeriodicalId":312912,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Learning Innovation and Quality Education","volume":"159 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114408237","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
