However, this industry has been under criticism for serious deforestation and open burning activities, which obviously opposing to the objective of the oil palm Good Agricultural Practice on zero burning. As a result, sustainability certification of Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil and Malaysia Sustainable Palm Oil had been introduced towards achieving sustainable development governance in this industry and fulfilling the needs of importing countries on certified palm oil. However, the number of companies with sustainability certification is relatively low due to the concern on potential additional cost, which then could affect firm profitability. Therefore, this study aims to examine the impact of sustainability certification on financial profitability among 39 palm oil companies in Bursa Malaysia, from 2009 to 2016. Based on the GLS estimation model, the finding shows that the profitability of firms with sustainability certification is almost 2% higher than firms without certification. The finding of this study provide useful input for industry players and could encourage palm oil companies to subscribe sustainability certifications to improve their sustainability practices and good governance as well as increase their profits. Walau bagaimanapun, industri ini dikririk disebabkan oleh penebangan hutan yang serius dan pembakaran terbuka, yang jelas bertentangan dengan objektif Amalan Pertanian Baik dalam industri minyak kelapa sawit, iaitu polisi pembakaran sifar. Hasilnya, pensijilan kelestarian Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil dan Malaysia Sustainable Palm Oil telah diperkenalkan untuk mencapai pembangunan lestari dalam industri kelapa sawit dan memenuhi keperluan negara-negara pengimport minyak sawit. Walau bagaimanapun, bilangan syarikat yang melanggan pensijilan kelestarian ini agak rendah kerana timbul kebimbangan terhadap potensi kos tambahan, yang kemudiannya boleh menjejaskan keuntungan syarikat. Oleh itu, kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji kesan pensijilan kelestarian terhadap keberuntungan dalam kalangan 39 syarikat minyak sawit di Bursa Malaysia, dari tahun 2009 hingga 2016. Berdasarkan model penggangaran GLS, penemuan kajian ini menunjukkan bahawa syarikat sawit dengan pensijilan kelestarian mempunyai keuntungan hampir 2 peratus lebih tinggi daripada syarikat tanpa pensijilan. Dapatan daripada kajian ini memberikan input berguna kepada industri dan boleh menggalakkan syarikat minyak sawit melanggan dan memiliki persijilan kelestarian untuk meningkatkan amalan kemampanan dan tadbir urus yang baik serta meningkatkan keuntungan. In this study, we define social innovations as new ideas that are aimed at meeting social goals, which are typically diffused and mobilized by social organizations through their social services. Although there are a number of established social organizations in Malaysia, little is known about how their services have evolved or are diffused, particularly those that are transformative in nature. This lack of understanding can lead to ineffectiveness of social innovation implementation and might compromise the achievement of the intended social purpose. Using the integrated perspectives of process theories of service development, service innovation and firm development, as well as the concept of transformative service, this qualitative historical-processual case study explained the development of transformative services of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) (translated as the Council of Trust for the People), a prominent Malaysian social organization, from its inception in 1965 until present. Data were collected through in-depth interviews of key people of MARA as well as through analyses of published documents. The study found that MARA’s three foundational services of entrepreneurship development, education and investment have evolved over time in stages, together with the development of MARA as an organization. The services were developed based on the blueprints set out by MARA and the national policy since the early days. These findings establish the link between the concept of innovation and service development to social firms development, and thus overcome some managerial and policy issues of promoting effective management and institutionalization of social organizations. Oleh itu, pertukaran KPE/PU merupakan peristiwa penting yang memberi kesan kepada syarikat. Kajian lalu mengkaji hubungan antara pertukaran KPE/PU dengan (i) harga saham; (ii) prestasi kewangan syarikat; dan (iii) pengurusan perolehan. Namun kajian di Malaysia hanya melihat perkaitannya dengan prestasi kewangan syarikat dan harga saham. Sehubungan itu, kajian ini memenuhi jurang yang wujud dengan melihat perkaitan antara pertukaran KPE/PU dan pengurusan perolehan. Sampel kajian terdiri daripada 98 syarikat senaraian awam yang melakukan pertukaran KPE/PU antara tahun 2009 hingga 2014. Hasil kajian mendapati KPE/PU yang mengambil alih jawatan mempunyai kecenderungan mengurus perolehan secara negatif bagi menurunkan perolehan pada tahun pertukaran. Seterusnya mereka mengurus perolehan secara positif bagi meningkatkan perolehan pada tahun fiskal pertama selepas pertukaran. Dapatan ini selari dengan dapatan kajian lepas. Namun begitu dapatan juga menunjukkan pengganti KPE/PU dari dalam syarikat lebih berkecenderungan melakukan pengurusan perolehan secara positif berbanding pengganti dari luar organisasi. Dapatan ini membantu pembuatan keputusan strategik yang melibatkan pengurusan korporat syarikat senaraian awam, khususnya yang melibatkan pertukaran KPE/PU. Ianya juga berguna kepada pelabur dan bakal pelabur dalam membuat keputusan pelaburan dalam syarikat yang telah atau akan mengalami pertukaran KPE/PU. Kata kunci: Ketua pengarah eksekutif; pengarah urusan; pertukaran; pengurusan perolehan ABSTRACT Top management (Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director) is among the most influential individuals in determining the performance and continuity of the company's operations. Therefore, the CEO/MD turnover is considered as an important event that may affects the company. Prior studies examined the relationship between the CEO/MD turnover with (i) the share price; (ii) the company’s financial performance; and (iii) earnings management. However, studies in Malaysia were focusing the effect of turnover on company's financial performance and share prices. Accordingly, this study reduces the gaps by examining the association between CEO/MD turnover and earnings management. The sample of the study comprises 98 public listed companies which experienced the CEO/MD turnover between 2009 and 2014. Findings from this study indicate that the incoming CEO/MD has a tendency to manage earnings negatively to reduce earnings during the turnover year. Subsequently they manage earnings upward a year after the turnover. These findings are in line with past studies. However, finding also indicates that the new CEO/MD recruited internally is more likely to manage earnings upward compared to CEO/MD recruited from outside the organizations. A survey method was utilized to collect data from employees at a national election agency in Peninsular Malaysia. The SmartPLS was used to analyze the data and revealed two significant findings: First, relationship between supportive leadership style and organizational attachment was significantly correlated with encouragement to perform work. Second, relationship between participative leadership style and organizational attachment was significantly correlated with encouragement to perform work. The findings endorse that effect of human-oriented leadership on encouragement to perform work is mediated by organizational attachment. Further discussions, implications and conclusion are presented in this study. Nordin","doi":"10.17576/PENGURUSAN-2018-53-16","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.17576/PENGURUSAN-2018-53-16","url":null,"abstract":"ABSTRACT Under the National Key Result Area (NKRA) Safe City Program’s (SCP) Safe City Monitoring System (SCMS) initiative, the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) manages the deployment of feet-on-the-street via the indexed crime hotspots. Working on an approach known as the Repeat Location Finder (RLF), the RMP determines the displacement of indexed crime on the hotspots and may deploy feet-on-the-streets at the identified displacement areas as crime prevention measures. This paper introduces another deployment capability by shifting the focus from the hotspots to the identified serial suspects. Displacement models work on the concentration of crime incidents and the propensity location where the concentration might shift to the surrounding immediate hotspots. This additional method on the other hand, works on the identified suspects and identifies the next location where the suspects might surface, which may take place beyond the distance and boundaries of the hotspots. The objective of this paper is to identify the spatial features that positively contribute towards this new method. The solutions to the objective have been tested on a dataset made available by the RMP comprising 74 serial criminal suspects around the areas of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, spanning from Jan 1st to Dec 31st 2013. The identification capability moves as high as 92.86%. The RMP has been presented with the results of this paper and it was concluded that this method may be applicable as another capability in managing the deployment of feet-on-the-street resources. ABSTRAK Melalui Sistem Pemantauan Bandar Selamat (SCMS) di bawah Program Bandar Selamat (SCP) Bidang Keberhasilan Utama Negara (NKRA), Polis DiRaja Malaysia (RMP) menguruskan pengerahan rondaan kaki berpandukan tempat-tempat jenayah berindeks yang berketumpatan tinggi. Melalui pendekatan yang dikenali sebagai Pencarian Lokasi Berulang (RLF), RMP menentukan anjakan jenayah berindeks dari tempat-tempat ketumpatan jenayah tinggi dan mengerahkan rondaan kaki ke kawasan-kawasan anjakan yang dikenalpasti untuk tujuan pencegahan jenayah. Makalah ini memperkenalkan satu lagi keupayaan pengerahan dengan memindahkan tumpuan daripada kawasan berketumpatan jenayah berindeks tinggi kepada suspek bersiri yang dikenalpasti. Abdullah","doi":"10.17576/PENGURUSAN-2018-53-08","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.17576/PENGURUSAN-2018-53-08","url":null,"abstract":"ABSTRACT The objective of this paper is to investigate the effect of bank specific characteristics and microeconomics variables on bank margin (NIM) which reflects the intermediary role of Islamic and conventional banks in Malaysia for the period of 2006 to 2014. By using static panel analysis, the results show that management efficiency is positively related to the bank margin for both Islamic and conventional banks. For Islamic banks, bank size and liquidity ratio have significant negative relationship on bank margin. The default risk is positively related to bank margin for Islamic banks. As for conventional bank, the non interest to total asset ratio has significant positive relationship on bank margin. Therefore, the results show that there are similarities and differences in terms of determinant factors that affect the bank margin between Islamic banks and conventional banks. These empirical results suggest an important policy on issues pertaining to how Islamic and conventional banks have to adjust the changes in the banking environment. The conventional banks have more comparative advantages specifically on management efficiency as its intermediary role performance is also not affected by size. ABSTRAK Objektif kertas penyelidikan ini adalah untuk mengetahui kesan ciri-ciri khusus bank dan faktor mikroekonomi terhadap margin bank yang mempengaruhi peranan bank Islam dan konvensional dalam sistem perantara perbankan di Malaysia bagi tempoh 2006 hingga 2014. Dengan menggunakan analisis panel statik, hasil menunjukkan bahawa kecekapan pengurusan adalah positif terhadap margin bank untuk kedua-dua bank Islam dan konvensional. Bagi bank Islam, saiz bank dan nisbah kecairan mempunyai hubungan negatif yang signifikan terhadap margin bank. Risiko kegagalan pembayaran adalah positif terhadap margin bank bagi bank Islam. Bagi bank konvensional, nisbah faedah kepada nisbah aset keseluruhan mempunyai hubungan positif yang signifikan terhadap margin bank. Oleh itu, keputusan menunjukkan bahawa terdapat persamaan dan perbezaan dari segi faktor penentu yang mempengaruhi margin bank antara perbankan Islam dan perbankan konvensional. Keputusan empirikal ini mencadangkan satu dasar penting mengenai isu-isu yang berkaitan bagaimana bank-bank Islam dan konvensional mesti menyesuaikan perubahan dalam persekitaran perbankan. In Malaysia, waqf is under the purview of State Islamic Religious Councils (SIRCs) whose permissions are needed to operate waqf legally. However, there are multiple claims that establishing the relationships with SIRCs is complex. Therefore, the main aim of this study is to overcome the paradigm of the complex collaborative relationships between the interested parties of waqf and the SIRCs. For that, the case of Wakaf CSR is chosen as a perfect example of how collaborative waqf relationship is established under polycentric governance. Qualitative approach from case study perspective is utilized for this study apart from secondary data of library search and seminal inputs. The case offers a good insight into how waqf could be operationalized harmoniously into the legal framework using collaborative governance mechanism. The success of the model demonstrated by Wakaf CSR had inspired many versions of collaborative waqf projects with SIRCs. It can be concluded that collaborative governance from polycentric perspective is an ideal formulation for executing the waqf sector in the Malaysian context. Di Malaysia, kuasa wakaf adalah di bawah Majlis Agama Islam Negeri (MAIN). Bagaimanapun, terdapat beberapa dakwaan tentang kesukaran mendapatkan kebenaran daripada MAIN. Tujuan kajian ini dilakukan bagi mengungkai paradigma perhubungan kolaboratif yang dikatakan sebagai kompleks di antara pihak yang berminat membangunkan institusi wakaf dan MAIN. Satu kes kajian wakaf berkenaan Wakaf CSR dibincangkan untuk mengetahui bagaimana kejayaan kolaborasi wakaf di bawah perspektif polisentrik dapat dilakukan. Metodologi kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif melalui temuduga separa berstruktur selain daripada maklumat sekunder melalui carian perpustakaan dan input daripada seminar. Kes kajian ini memperlihatkan potensi bagaimana wakaf dapat dioperasikan dengan harmoni ke dalam kerangka perundangan menggunakan mekanisme urustadbir kolaboratif. Impak yang didemonstrasikan daripada kejayaan kes kajian ini telah menginspirasikan pihak lain mewujudkan projek wakaf secara berkolaborasi dengan MAIN. Konklusi daripada kajian ini menunjukkan bahawa urustadbir di bawah perspektif polisentrik merupakan formulasi ideal dalam mengoperasikan wakaf dalam konteks Malaysia. However, only a few researchers have investigated the influence of personality towards workplace bullying and depression. This study examines the role of personality factors as predictors of workplace bullying and their effects on depression. Structural equation modeling analysis was used to analyze the workplace bullying model. The research involved 340 registered nurses from the public sector. The respondents completed questionnaires on personality factors, workplace bullying, and depression. Results showed that only conscientiousness influenced workplace bullying and neuroticism affected depression directly. Workplace bullying has been found to directly influence depression among nurses. The findings have implications on how workplace bullying plays a key role in the relationship between personality and depression and may serve as a guideline on how to prevent nurses from psychological problems caused by workplace bullying. Keywords: Big Five personality; workplace bullying; depression; structural equation modeling, nurses ABSTRAK Tingkah laku buli di tempat kerja merupakan satu daripada masalah psikologi yang lazim di alami di tempat kerja dan situasi ini telah menjadi topik yang mendapat perhatian sejak tahun 1990. Walaubagaimanapun, hanya terdapat beberapa kajian personaliti di tempat kerja yang mengkaji pengaruhnya terhadap tingkah laku buli dan kemurungan. Kajian ini mengkaji peranan faktor-faktor personaliti sebagai penyebab buli di tempat kerja dan kesannya ke atas kemurungan. Analisis model persamaan berstruktur digunakan untuk menganalisa model tingkah laku buli di tempat kerja. Kajian ini membabitkan 340 jururawat berdaftar daripada sektor awam yang telah melengkapkan soal selidik berkenaan faktor-faktor personaliti, buli di tempat kerja, dan kemurungan. Kajian menunjukkan hanya kehematan mempengaruhi buli di tempat kerja manakala neurotisisme mempengaruhi kemurungan secara langsung. Sebaliknya, buli tempat kerja mempunyai pengaruh langsung ke atas kemurungan antara jururawat. Dapatan ini mempunyai implikasi tentang bagaimana buli memainkan peranan utama dalam hubungan di antara personaliti dan kemurungan dan boleh menjadi panduan untuk menghalang jururawat daripada mengalami masalah psikologikal yang disebabkan oleh buli di tempat kerja. These social media interactions result in social content, which, if well-managed, can lead to innovative improvements in the value offerings of the organisations. Thus, a proper social content management framework needs to be in place. However, there is a limited study in the concepts of social content and social content management. Based on literature review, this article articulates the components of the social content management framework and its building blocks based on the service science approach. The Delphi technique is used to validate the framework, which involved obtaining consensus among the experts by using a set of questionnaire. There are three components that are being validated, namely, factors that affect social content management, the definitions of social content and social content management, and the framework as a whole. It is hoped that the framework will be useful for researchers and practitioners in the field of social content management. Interaksi dalam media sosial yang menghasilkan kandungan sosial, sekiranya diurus dengan baik, boleh membawa kepada penambahbaikan yang inovatif terhadap nilai yang ditawar oleh organisasi. Sehubungan dengan itu, kerangka pengurusan kandungan sosial yang tepat perlu tersedia. Walau bagaimana pun, kajian tentang konsep kandungan sosial dan pengurusan kandungan sosial masih terhad. Berdasarkan kajian susastera, artikel ini memperihal tentang komponen kerangka pengurusan kandungan sosial berdasarkan pendekatan sains khidmat. Teknik Delphi diguna pakai untuk mengesah kerangka, iaitu melalui konsensus pakar dengan menggunakan set soal selidik. Terdapat tiga komponen yang disah iaitu faktor yang mempengaruhi pengurusan kandungan sosial, takrif kandungan sosial dan pengurusan kandungan sosial, dan kerangka secara keseluruhan. Thus, we examine the associations between CSProxy and CSMulti, and RPTs. Additionally, directors are rewarded with remunerations, and therefore, director remuneration may be effective in minimizing agency conflict. Thus, we examine the impact of director remuneration as a moderator of the relationships between CSProxy and CSMulti, and RPT. The hypotheses are tested using a sample that consists of 622 listed companies in Malaysia over the period 2012-2014 with a total of 1,866 observations. CSProxy and CSMulti are found to have positive associations with RPTs. We also find that director remuneration is significant in moderating the CSProxy and CSMulti, and RPT relationships. This evidence suggests that director remuneration is an effective monitoring cost to minimize the abuse of RPTs by opportunistic controlling shareholders via their networking, CSProxy and CSMulti. It raises the concerns of the regulators and policy makers that controlling shareholders may utilize their posts, power, position and networks to opportunistically expropriate firm resources. Firm’s remuneration committee has to understand the importance of determining attractive remuneration that fulfils directors’ expectation and satisfaction. Kami mengkaji perhubungan antara CSProxy dan CSMulti, dan RPT. Di samping itu, pengarah diberi ganjaran, dan oleh itu, ganjaran pengarah mungkin efektif dalam meminimumkan konflik agensi.
