According to Hamers(2000:270) “Code mixing is a language-contact communication strategy, but the speaker of a languagetransfers elements or rules of another language.”The researcher taught that English is important language,The reason to choose code mixing because the researcher found that students try to practice their Englishbut using sometime they have to use code mixing and swithing mostly because of lack of vocabulary.To describe the types of code mixing, to explain the functions of code mixing, and to tell the reasons ofusing code mixing. According to Siregar (1996:50) stated that Code mixing divided into two kinds, intrasentential mixing and extra-sentential mixing.Muysken (2000) defined three types of code mixing, thoseare: Insertion, Alternation, and Congruent Lexicalization.This situation is closer with daily conversationand also describe as their habitual communication. This research conducted the assessment ofpreschool students ability in writing the dictated words through their phonological awareness not bymemorizing the letters. Theresearch data is 40 umpasa of Toba, taken by recording and video-taping 5 wedding ceremoniesheld in Medan. The findings show that the meanings and functions of the umpasa are also closelyrelated to the wedding process of the Toba Batak society and also to Toba Batak’s philosophy.Umpasa is used in Toba Batak’s traditional wedding ceremony to refine and beautify the language.This shows a sense of mutual respect between host and invited guests, especially between hula-hula(the wife giver) and boru (the wife receiver). Based on the preliminarystudy in language classroom SMAN 12 Medan, teachers had limited knowledge of creative method inteaching speaking which can be integrated to curriculum. Thus, the use of Fishbowl strategy can provideopportunity in the form of Fish and the Bowl for each student to practice speaking in the classroom whileconsidering about current curriculum. In the Fishbowl, each student can take a turn to deliver the ideas,and everyone has the equal chance to speak. This research focused on the implementation of Fishbowlstrategy to improve speaking ability of 30 students from first grade of SMAN 12 Medan. The researchmethodology was a classroom action research. At the end of implementing fishbowl, the researcher gavethe questionnaire to know students’ perception toward the use of Fishbowl strategy. Based on the researchfindings, there were 26,6% successful students at the pre-test. The main objective of this study is to describe the implementation of dramaperformance in teaching speaking. The sample of this study was 50 students in class XI IS-1. This studywas conducted by using classroom action research. The research was conducted in two cycles, cycle Iconsisted of three meetings, and cycle II consisted of three meetings. The instruments for collecting thedata were quantitative data (speaking test), and qualitative data (interview and observation sheet). Basedon speaking scores in quantitative data, students’ score improve continuously. Based on interview andobservation sheet from qualitative data, it was found that the students were active, interested, andenthusiastic in speaking especially through drama performance. This method provides an efficient way of getting students to share their different ideas or perspective andcan help students master spoken english. It is suitable for the students because it helps the students to understandhow to speak well. It is usually used a ball and it is made from a paper or rubber and the ball will be thrown torandom student and once the student get the ball, he or she will have a chance to speak in the classroom. When theteacher conducts teaching and learning speaking through snowball throwing method, the students will be enjoyablein learning process. It can be seen from the high number of percentage of participants who answered wrong on everyquestion of the test.This research is a case study and it uses descriptive quantitative method. The subjectsof the research are fifty fife students of the ten grade students at SMK SWASTA Palapa, Pancur Batu,Pancur Batu who are detected as having difficulties in understanding English reading descriptive textand an English teacher who handles the classes. The test were used as the instruments of this study. Thetest was used to obtain the data about the students’ difficulties in understanding English readingdescriptive text.The finding shows that the majority of the students find difficulties in identifying mainidea of the text, more than half of students made mistake in identifying specific word in the text andmany students cannot understand the structure of the text. A Thesis.This study was conducted in experimental Quantitative design. The populationof this research was Tenth Grade of students in SMA Serdang Murni Lubuk Pakam . There were seventy six studentsof the tenth grade senior high school students as the sample of research. This study was conducted with tworandomized groups namely Experimental Group and Control Group. The experimental group was taught by usingSynthesizing Strategy, while control group was taught without Synthesizing Strategy. The instrument of collectingthe data was a multiple choice test. The data were analyzed by using t-test. The calculation shown that t-observed(3.65) was higher than t-table (1.68) at the level of significance (α) 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) 58. Itmeans that there was a significant effect of Synthesizing Strategy on students reading comprehension. This study used qualitative research. The data were collectedby translate paper and observation students translation in the classroom. The data are taken from translate paper inthe classroom. There are 268 translation equivalence and 211 translation shift. The data are analyzed based on typesof translation equivalence ( linguistic, paradigmatic, stylistic and syntematic) and translation shift ( structure, class,intra system and unit). After analyzing the data, the types of translation equivalence and shift used on the studentsand offer was dominantly used in classroom translation. The total of translation equivalence 268 divide by thefollowing Stylistic equivalence 64 and syntematic equivalence 204. The most dominant types of translationequivalence is syntematic equivalence. The total translation shift is 211 divide by the following by structure shift18, class shift 129 and 64 unit shift.
