This objective must be correctly integrated together with the establishment of transversal competences as well as fundamental knowledge. In this paper, the methodology followed in various subjects of both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering is analyzed.","PeriodicalId":304068,"journal":{"name":"2018 XIII Technologies Applied to Electronics Teaching Conference (TAEE)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133669679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In general, the adoption of the PWM strategy or modulation algorithm is intended to improve the behavior of the system: improve harmonic content (THD) or dynamic response, reduce switching losses, increase conversion efficiency, etc. The academic literature includes different PWM modulation techniques. Some of these complex techniques are intended to achieve greater reliability, efficiency and reduce noise in the equipment. The objective of this paper has been to develop a comparative analysis of the different control algorithms and PWM techniques. Matlab-Simulink has been the software used for the analysis and development of the different PWM modulation techniques presented, as well as the converter topologies. The purpose was to develop the simulation of the different PWM modulation techniques (continuous and discontinuous methods) and to compare the results with the experimental setup. The purpose is that the student can understand more easily and visually their operation mode. From the student’s viewpoint, it is important to understand each of the PWM modulation strategies, as well as to observe the advantages and disadvantages of the different methods presented. This document also discusses the method and details for the acquisition of knowledge and its implementation in the classroom.","PeriodicalId":304068,"journal":{"name":"2018 XIII Technologies Applied to Electronics Teaching Conference (TAEE)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128567641","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

FPGAs and development boards offer a very suitable platform for the implementation of these designs. However, classroom practice sessions usually last two hours, which does not allow the complexity of the designs be high enough. For this reason, interesting designs that can be made in several sessions are required In this paper, the construction of a distance measuring system is presented as a demonstrator. For this purpose, a distance measurement module based on ultrasound is available and the results are displayed in 7-segment displays on a Nexys4 board.","PeriodicalId":304068,"journal":{"name":"2018 XIII Technologies Applied to Electronics Teaching Conference (TAEE)","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124925973","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The benefits to the learning process are easy to verify. In addition, remote laboratories bring with their application, operational advantages associated to component inventory, equipment maintenance, security, plus other practical issues. Considering this general scenario, it is intuitive that the implementation of a remote laboratory and its use is easily recognized and accepted by the users, namely, students and teachers. This paper aims to present the obstacles and advantages observed in the implementation of the VISIR (Virtual Instruments Systems in Reality) remote lab at the Federal Institute of Santa Catarina - IFSC, as well as the obtained results.","PeriodicalId":304068,"journal":{"name":"2018 XIII Technologies Applied to Electronics Teaching Conference (TAEE)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124389285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective was to develop a comparison between the conduction and switching losses in semiconductor devices depending on the modulation technique (SPWM, SVM, THIPWM or DPWM) used. The purpose is to analyze graphically and visually the most influential parameters on power losses, as well as to determine the set of techniques that minimize these losses on the devices. This document discusses the main fields of application and presents some associated technological problems. The heating on semiconductors according to their manufacturing technology (Si, SiC) has also been presented. The analysis has been developed using the free simulation tool Loss Simulation Software by Fuji-Electric. The application uses the specific characteristics of the devices in order to improve the accuracy in the calculation of losses. The purpose is that students can assimilate more quickly the concepts presented in the classroom. The power losses associated with the semiconductors that constitute the 3L-NPC topology have been compared. In this way it is easier to determine and observe the influence of different parameters such as switching frequency, modulation index, output current, power factor, gate resistance, etc. about the proposed structure.
