This implementation of active learning consists of the acquisition of knowledge with seminars taught by students, and latterly developing a project to solve a real technical problem. This way of learning requires support and continuous monitoring by academic staff, and an assessing model that contemplates the level of the skills acquired by each student.","PeriodicalId":304068,"journal":{"name":"2018 XIII Technologies Applied to Electronics Teaching Conference (TAEE)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124794036","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PBL is one of the best ways to promote self-learning and simultaneously boost motivation. In this paper, we present our experience introducing project-based learning in a last year subject. New Internet of Things (IoT) topic allows us to carry out complete projects, integrating different technologies and tools. Moreover, the selection of open-source and standard free technologies makes easy and cheap the access to hardware and software platforms used. We carefully have picked communication, data management, and programming tools that we think would be attractive to our students. They can start making fast prototyping with little initial skills and, at the same time, these are serious and popular tools widely used in the industry. In this paper, we report on the design of a project-based learning for our course and the impact this has on the student satisfaction and motivation. Surveys taught us that tuning the courses towards developing real projects on the field, has a large impact on acceptance, learning objectives achievements and motivation towards the course content.","PeriodicalId":304068,"journal":{"name":"2018 XIII Technologies Applied to Electronics Teaching Conference (TAEE)","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115918924","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study includes a detailed description of the solution that was developed to respond to these needs: it begins by presenting the different components that make up the system, which was designed around the Arduino Due platform. It then provides a detailed functional description of these before discussing preliminary trials that were carried out using the test board. These trials proved that the main components function correctly and point to the need to continue work on the prototype board to obtain more conclusive evidence that the expected results have been achieved and to check all component interactions on the final version.","PeriodicalId":304068,"journal":{"name":"2018 XIII Technologies Applied to Electronics Teaching Conference (TAEE)","volume":"182 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122566202","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a real-time gesture recognition system, Leap Motion Controller commercial device has been used. The purpose has been to simulate the natural movement of the hand and fingers. Nowadays, technological advances related to robotics and modern control techniques have caused these disciplines of knowledge to be used as an educational complement. Thus, these concepts have been incorporated both in basic education and in higher education. Develop and implement advanced control strategies in robotic elements, by remote control, is a clear example of academic work that causes extra motivation in science, technology and engineering students. On the other hand, Final Year Project (TFG) or Final Master Project (TFM), constitutes an academic activity that allows to evaluate in detail the different competences acquired by the students during their university education period. In this paper, a novel and current electronic application is presented, based on the management of a bionic hand using real-time gesture recognition techniques. As a result, the control of a bionic hand that simulates the degrees of freedom (DOF) of the human hand has been developed. The initial objectives have been satisfactorily resolved. So the robotic prototype built has exceeded initial expectations. In addition, its cost has been low.","PeriodicalId":304068,"journal":{"name":"2018 XIII Technologies Applied to Electronics Teaching Conference (TAEE)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126844625","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, from a teaching point of view, the more practical they are, the more attractive to students. But for a design to be attractive, even if it is presented with a low complexity, it is not possible to do it in a single practice session. This paper presents, as a demonstrator, the design at RT level and its implementation in FPGA of a digital system that uses the Trivium flow cipher and on which measurements of maximum operating frequency are made. This circuit is designed in three laboratory sessions of about two hours each.","PeriodicalId":304068,"journal":{"name":"2018 XIII Technologies Applied to Electronics Teaching Conference (TAEE)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121573509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
