Abstract
The operating principle of power converters is based on the implementation of PWM modulation techniques. In general, the adoption of the PWM strategy or modulation algorithm is intended to improve the behavior of the system: improve harmonic content (THD) or dynamic response, reduce switching losses, increase conversion efficiency, etc. The academic literature includes different PWM modulation techniques. Some of these complex techniques are intended to achieve greater reliability, efficiency and reduce noise in the equipment. The objective of this paper has been to develop a comparative analysis of the different control algorithms and PWM techniques. Matlab-Simulink has been the software used for the analysis and development of the different PWM modulation techniques presented, as well as the converter topologies. The purpose was to develop the simulation of the different PWM modulation techniques (continuous and discontinuous methods) and to compare the results with the experimental setup. The purpose is that the student can understand more easily and visually their operation mode. From the student’s viewpoint, it is important to understand each of the PWM modulation strategies, as well as to observe the advantages and disadvantages of the different methods presented. This document also discusses the method and details for the acquisition of knowledge and its implementation in the classroom.
