However, the impoliteness in verbal communication among the members of the community is increasingly worrying until it becomes trending in nowadays communication. The use of impolite language, dialects, and cursing has destroyed the culture of politeness in verbal communication which is a very significant element in the growth and development of a society as an expresser of philosophy, knowledge, and thinking as well as a tool for human creativity in various fields of life. Thus, language should be put in an appropriate place in the context of developing and consolidating a civilized society. In the context of Malaysian society, politeness in verbal communication is emphasized as a reflection of Malaysian society. Accordingly, this study aims to identify the maxims of politeness in verbal communication among the Malaysian community as well as the relationship between Leech's Principles of Politeness and the socio-culture society in Malaysia. The research method is quantitative and involves primary data collection through a survey of 272 youths among the Malays, Chinese, and Indian communities around the Klang Valley. The findings revealed that there is politeness in verbal communication in the maxims of politeness, kindness, and polite maxims and consent in Malaysian society. Leech’s Principles of Politeness proves that all three maxims have successfully unified various ethnicities that reflect the identity of Malaysian society. Hence, this study can be used as a reference for politeness in verbal communication which is very significant in multi-ethnic society in Malaysia.","PeriodicalId":301324,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Law, Government and Communication","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126181648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Along with the passage of time, there has been a cultural clash between Islam and the beliefs of the ancestors of the Bajau community in Sabah, then adapted according to the current situation and interests. Among the practices that still exist today is Adat Bertimbang, which is a ceremony of weighing babies born in the month of Muharam and Safar. The Bajau people believe that babies born in that month will bring disaster to themselves when they grow up. Therefore, Bertimbang is performed to supplicate to Allah SWT to keep the baby away from calamity for the rest of his life. The question is, why do the Bajau people continue the traditional customs of their ancestors? Based on a case study in Kg. Bolong, Tuaran, this article reveals the Factors of the Survival of Adat Bertimbang in the Bajau Community of Kampung Bolong, Tuaran. This study used a qualitative approach. Several informants were interviewed involving the elders of Kampung Bolong, Kampung Simpangan and Kampung Pulau Gaya Asal. The findings of the study conclude that there are two factors that cause the Adat Bertimbang is still accepted untill this day. The advancement of the digital world has provided a platform for this group to normalize cross-gender culture in the country. The combination of technological advancements and the abundance of social media applications has made it easier for all groups, especially the youth, to access various discussions, particularly on this issue. This is relevant as the younger generation also contributes to the emergence of this group. We can observe on social media platforms that the transgender community is becoming increasingly bold in openly spreading their ideology, to the extent of insulting Islam. For instance, they would livestream on their personal social media platforms while eating openly during the daytime in the month of Ramadan. Such actions demonstrate a fragility in religious understanding, leading them to engage in activities that contradict Islam without considering the concept of reward and punishment. Therefore, this study aims to assess the level of understanding and perception of university students regarding cross-gender issues in Malaysia. A survey questionnaire was distributed to respondents who were students at a university in Malaysia. The data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software in a descriptive manner. The study found that the respondents exhibited a moderate level of understanding regarding cross-gender issues in Malaysia. Additionally, their perception of cross-gender culture was also moderate. This indicates the need to extensively expose university students to the issue of cross-gender culture so that they become more aware of its presence. This study is considered significant in preventing society, particularly young Muslim individuals, from adopting an open-minded attitude towards accepting the presence of cross-gender culture and subsequently getting trapped in a realm that contradicts Islamic law.","PeriodicalId":301324,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Law, Government and Communication","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133736997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The situation becomes more urgent when there are attempts to open up space for recognizing the third gender in Malaysia. If this effort continues, it will provide a significant opportunity for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community, which has been advocating for their human rights to be accepted by society without discrimination in various aspects. This controversial issue has opened the eyes of many Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and local figures who have come together to restrain the recognition effort. This is because this culture clearly contradicts the nature of Islam and Islamic law and is not in line with Malaysia's position as a country that practices Islamic religious principles. Therefore, this paper will discuss the concept of the third gender from the perspective of Islam and its impact on the Islamic community in Malaysia. To achieve this objective, the researcher uses a qualitative approach with full application of the literature review method. The collected data is analyzed inductively to formulate research findings. The study found that the third-gender culture needs to be completely curbed before it spreads widely in the Islamic community because it contradicts the demands of Islamic religion and local culture. Any effort to recognize this culture needs to be firmly restrained, as it will encourage various actions prohibited by Islamic law. Various parties need to play a role and work together to resolve this issue for the benefit of the Muslim community, especially in this country.","PeriodicalId":301324,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Law, Government and Communication","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126985356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the pluralistic context of Malaysian society, racial issues can be said to be sensitive and important. Pluralism shows diversity based on each racial identity. Diversity refers to the differences that exist in a society. This difference is a challenge to the construction of national identity and national unity because in the effort to create a nation state is not something easy. The focus of the study focuses on the analysis between two incidents of racial conflict that occurred after the Japanese occupation in 1945 and the event of May 13, 1969. This analysis will look in terms of analysing the similarities and differences between the two incidents of racial conflict. Is it true that there are differences or similarities between the two incidents of racial conflict in Malaya? The results of the study found that the two incidents of racial conflict were a planned incident and did not happen spontaneously. It is also motivated by the existence of elements of oppression or very heavy oppression. In terms of communist involvement, it was seen to be more comprehensive during the incident after the Japanese occupation in 1945 compared to the event of May 13, 1969. The racial conflict in 1945 was not entirely racial in nature but more about their goal in expanding communist influence in Malaya. In contrast to the events of May 13, 1969, the racial riots occurred as a result of political competition at that time which was unhealthy and did not care about pluralism.","PeriodicalId":301324,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Law, Government and Communication","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129923280","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A Muslim communicator or a da’include should take into account various dakwah dissemination in this case is the use of non-verbal communicative factors when conveying the message of Islam to ensure effective dakwah communication. According to scholars, the mastery and skills of non-verbal communication by the da’include such as eye contact, facial expressions, gestures, postures, language skills, use of objects and movement of the body language can help in the delivery of a dakwah message more optimally and effectively. In the 21st century, among successful da’include in the field of dakwah is Badiuzzaman Said Nursi. Among the factors of the public’s acceptance of Said Nursi’s preaching is his mastery in the knowledge of rhetoric (persuasion) as well as the knowledge of non-verbal communication, until it spread throughout the world. Thus, this study focuses on the effective dakwah communication of Badiuzzaman Said Nursi specifically in four non-verbal communicative elements, namely kinesic, chronomics, paralinguistics and artifactual. This method of study applied document studies for data collection by applying a content analysis approach to the data analysis process. The results showed that Said Nursi's effective dakwah communication includes at least 4 non-verbal communication coverage, as mentioned above.
