Although such advancements have contributed positively to the nation’s development, technology has become a medium for bullying in the new millennium, known as cyberbullying. Cyberbullying can be defined as using technology-based communication with the intention to psychologically harass others repeatedly that could downgrade the image and identity of the bullying victim. Such actions include hateful words, broadcast of private information without permission and many others, and it gives negative impact to the victims. Not only cyberbullying could cause the victims to lose their self-identity, it could also be suicidal. Even though there is increase in cyberbullying cases as reported by UNICEF and IPSOS in which cyberbullying cases result in severe negative consequences, todate, there is no specific law in Malaysia that regulates cyberbullying. Therefore, this article aims to analyse the existing laws relating to cyberbullying in Malaysia. This study adopted the doctrinal legal approach of library-based research. Data was obtained obtained from analysis made on several legal provisions available in Malaysia and other related journals. This article concludes that there are existing laws related to cyberbullying, but they are contained in various laws. Accordingly, there is an urgent need to legislate a specific regulation relating to cyberbullying in order to regulate this increasingly common cyberbullying activity.","PeriodicalId":301324,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Law, Government and Communication","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123797902","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They play an important role in electoral politics either as members of the political party machinery or included in the list of key leaders of a country or even in major world organizations such as the United Nations and so on. Therefore, it is the purpose of writing this article to study the geopolitics or the influence or role of women in politics by making Malaysia as a case study. Based on general election results in Malaysia and secondary sources such as journal articles, academic books, seminar papers and research reports, the findings show that women do play a role or influence in determining geopolitics in Malaysia despite not being able to control the majority or full of in terms of candidate determination and decision-making in the country. Women act as voters, vote appellants, campaign machinery, objects to win votes (facial beauty and softness of speech), political party members, political party speakers, political party strategists, advisers to husbands as leaders, leadership in political parties, candidates in elections, people’s representative and as a key leader in government. Therefore, the role of women in electoral politics cannot be ruled out because they can determine the victory of political parties and the effectiveness and success of a political structure such as political parties and governments.","PeriodicalId":301324,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Law, Government and Communication","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130206073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to investigate the biases and persuasion strategies as utilised in media interviews. Investigation on the interpersonal meanings articulated by the interactants was carried out based on their Mood choices. The data were obtained from two transcriptions of television interviews on the death of Muammar Gaddafi. Questions which were employed using the WH- interrogatives was found to be more superior in subjects which are linked to the death of the said figure. This finding highlights the use of Mood choices by the interviewers as they wish to reduce the pressure on the interviewees. However, the usage of yes/no interrogatives was found to be more superior when discussing unimportant subjects. The result obtained from this research will give a clearer picture on the numerous linguistic tactics utilised by the media in persuading the public to affirm their political position which will witness the soar in the public’s obligation to choose without being coerced by the biasness employed by the media.","PeriodicalId":301324,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Law, Government and Communication","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117162030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, this has led to the informal acknowledgement of the refugees' status as 'illegal migrants' in Malaysia. As illegal migrants, they are subjected to legal and social persecution, hence the negative connotations they have in society and the host country. Today, the increasing number of refugees fleeing to Malaysia has become a concern towards the country's interest of its citizen's safety and its value as a tourist destination. In addition, many believe that the Malaysian government is inept in handling and controlling the sudden influx of refugees, affecting citizens' rights. This discomfort has led the government to be criticised for dismissing the citizen's rights in favour of the refugees. Residents also believe the Malaysian government has jeopardised citizens' rights to a safe environment and decent income. As a result, they demand that the government prioritise citizens' rights over refugees' rights. This paper examines the effectiveness of Malaysia's response to the issue of refugees and the protection of its citizen's rights. In the presence of comprehensive efforts by the Malaysian government, this paper further recommends some appropriate measures to balance the rights of refugees and its citizen.","PeriodicalId":301324,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Law, Government and Communication","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128235499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, in reality, empirical research in the criminal justice system focuses more on male prisoners than on female prisoners. This situation leads to a lack of discussion and debate about female prisoners in literature or secondary sources. In relation to that, this concept paper aims to fill the gap by identifying crime factors based on gender perspective, the impact of women's involvement in crime and the need for a rehabilitation program that is responsive and sensitive to gender aspects. In this conceptual paper, a large amount of literature has been dedicated to understanding women's involvement in crime and the implications of such behavior. This concept paper concludes with a recommendation to introduce gender-responsive and gender-sensitive programs to help female prisoners become productive, law-abiding and able to reintegrate with the community.","PeriodicalId":301324,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Law, Government and Communication","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126442295","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Southeast Asia, homelessness is rife due to various reasons, where poverty is notably one of the most prominent factors. This conceptual paper reviews past literature focusing on the issue of homelessness in selected countries in Southeast Asia namely, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand. The issue of poverty and homelessness has been a long-standing issue across the continent. The increase in homelessness due to poverty increases the challenge of reintegrating homeless individuals into society as most are denied the opportunity of permanent shelter. Living on the streets also implies that most of them are heavily dependent on support from both the government and society. This review of past literature reveals that homelessness and poverty are mutual, interdependent phenomenon that occurs simultaneously. All four countries (Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore) demonstrated that poverty is a significant trigger for the issue of homelessness, whereby most individuals are forced to live on the streets due to the vicious cycle of poverty. This review also significantly provides an overview on the issue of homelessness and poverty in the selected Southeast Asian countries, addressing the gap of limited research on the area of homelessness collectively in the region.","PeriodicalId":301324,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Law, Government and Communication","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114471562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Health and environment play crucial factors in contributing to children’s development. However, tobacco smoking is one of the ‘diseases’ that has been a concern to many especially secondhand smoke which is a threat not only to adults but also to children. There are almost 7 billion people who die from tobacco smoke while 1.2 billion non-smokers die due to secondhand-smoke (World Health Organization, 2022). The objective of this research is to examine and analyze the extent to which Malaysian law shields children from exposure to tobacco smoke. Thus, this article adopts a doctrinal research by referring to several legislations available in Malaysia as well as the international conventions and treaties to highlight the inductive analysis of this research.","PeriodicalId":301324,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Law, Government and Communication","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115427402","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
