Over the past few decades, there has been a significant increase in female inmates entering the criminal justice system. However, in reality, empirical research in the criminal justice system focuses more on male prisoners than on female prisoners. This situation leads to a lack of discussion and debate about female prisoners in literature or secondary sources.
