This research applied a case study using a descriptive qualitative approach. The data was collected using active participant observation, passive non-participant observation, interviews, and documentaries methods. The Miles Huberman model was then used to analyze the data. The results of the research showed that, first, the situations in the speaking skills acquisition include the language instructional classes situation, the islamic studies instructional classes situation, and the situation of using the language in the extra-curricular and everyday life activities. In those situations, students interactively combined the use both behaviorism and cognitivism theories, although the implementation of behaviorism priciples is more dominant. Moreover, the implementation of both theories was highly supported by the language atmospheres in the classrooms and outside the classrooms, as well as the discipline enforcement in the language implementation. Second, the factors influencing the speaking skills acquisition process among others were the area and situation diversities for doing simulation (practice), imitation and repetitions, the availability of many areas and situations for practicing and building the habit, the presence of a mentor among students, language atmosphere in the classroom, language atmosphere outside the classrooms, the presence of language role models, feedback and reinforcement, the implementation of discipline, court and monitoring board committee, motivation and self-confidence. Third, the linguistic problems in the acquisition process of students’ speaking skills among others were the phonemic system, word arabization, changes in the words meaning, mistakes in the language structure, the use of Indonesian particle and the occurance of local dialect. The resolutions that had been taken by the institution (the boarding school of Gontor) to deal with those problems were correcting the speaking errors, providing language training for the board committee, delivering good language style, providing speaking model, practicing the pronunciation, teaching grammar for middle and upper level students, and giving harder punishment for those who intentionally offended the language practice regulation.","PeriodicalId":29848,"journal":{"name":"Ijaz Arabi Journal of Arabic Learning","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2020-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44450500","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research problem emanated from the weaknesses experienced by the researchers in the essay writing of the students in the course of their teaching at secondary levels. Thus, they formulated a research question with the aim of answering it through the usage of the experimental method. As such, they grouped their students into two: experimental and Control group, in which each of the groups consisted of ninety (90) students. The experimental group was taught simile using particular treatment, while the control group was taught conventionally. Consequently, it was vividly clear that those exposed to special treatment performed better than their counterpart in essay writing. Thus, the researchers recommend that: Teachers should give serious attention to the use of special treatment in the course of teaching rhetorics, as this would enhance their performance in writing skills. The National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) was also advised to consider what will improve the teaching/learning of rhetorics in the course of their curriculum development and implementation.","PeriodicalId":29848,"journal":{"name":"Ijaz Arabi Journal of Arabic Learning","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2020-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44406313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In 2016, the Government of Ghana declared through the Ministry of Education that Arabic has been made one of the elective subjects at the Senior High and that it might be rendered same at the preparatory level in the near future. At the same time, the government reiterated his determination to make French a second official language in Ghana, in addition to English. It is against this backdrop that this paper shed some insights into the future of Arabic in a bilingual Ghanaian society. It began with a general discussion on the state of Arabic language in Ghana, paving the way for the interrogation of the continuous struggle among powerful nations to impose their language and culture on the developing countries for varied socio-cultural, economic and political interests. In essence, the paper forecasted how Arabic could thrive the competition from the other foreign languages, coupled with the enormous challenges it is already coping with. The article suggests relevant measures that need to be taken by stakeholders to keep Arabic relevant and competitive in Ghana.","PeriodicalId":29848,"journal":{"name":"Ijaz Arabi Journal of Arabic Learning","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2019-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45937560","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
