The features and distinction of this method in comparison with the copper electroplating method or the method using a recrystallized foil are examined. This method is superior to the method using a recrystallized foil from the standpoint of ease of measurement, and its strain sensitivity is much higher than that of the electroplating method. As an application of this method, the stress concentration factors in various types of circular shafts with a flat part under cyclic torsion are obtained, with the results showing good agreement with those obtained previously.","PeriodicalId":286527,"journal":{"name":"JSME international journal : bulletin of the JSME","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1987-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127177564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The thermal conductance of the copper surface was changed by the following two additional-layers coated on it. The first is a thin layer of low thermal-conductivity material coated on the copper surface. The second is a additional double-layer that consists of a 0.3 mm PTFE layer and a thin metallic layer coated on it. The experimental results show that the effects of such additional layers on film boiling are negligible but are remarkable on the MHF-point temperature. For the single insulating layers, the MHF-point temperature increases with increased coating thicknesses. As for the additional double-layers, the MHF-point temperature decreses rapidly with increased thicknesses of the outer layer. In both cases, the MHF-point temperature reaches (or comes back to) a unique value when the coating material has a coating thickness of 0.1∼1 mm.","PeriodicalId":286527,"journal":{"name":"JSME international journal : bulletin of the JSME","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1987-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125895989","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has not been made clear, however, how deep is a deep enough crack for finite size specimens. In this study, an applicable range of the Rice formula for the three-point bend specimen used in the elastic-plastic fracture toughness JIC test is studied analytically. The Rice formula is compared directly with the definition of J as a change in potential energy. Results show that an assumption of a deep crack is required only for a linear elastic material and is not required necessarily for a rigid perfectly-plastic material. In order to obtain the quantitative data, the conditional equation is calculated numerically by varying the crack length for three materials; linear elastic, rigid perfectly-plastic and elastic perfectly-plastic. Results show that the Rice formula is valid when a/Wg0.4 for a linear elastic material. Based on the results, a recommended precrack length of the three-point bend specimen in the JIC test is newly proposed.","PeriodicalId":286527,"journal":{"name":"JSME international journal : bulletin of the JSME","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1987-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130241285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Periodic gusts were generated by the movement of a row of cylinders crossing in front of an airfoil. Total pressure loss, unsteady pressure distribution on the airfoil surface and velocity fluctuation were measured. The airfoil investigated here has a separation bubble on its suction surface, which increases total pressure loss even if the angle of attack is small. But as either frequency or solidity of cylinders increases, the separation bubble tends to disappear, followed by recovery of total pressure.","PeriodicalId":286527,"journal":{"name":"JSME international journal : bulletin of the JSME","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1987-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114746081","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two incompressible viscous fluids under the action of gravity are assumed to be bounded by the upper and lower solid walls which are oscillated vertically. The neutral stability curves are found in the plane consisting of the angular frequency and the amplitude of the external oscillation. A critical amplitude of the external oscillation, below which any instability does not arise, is found from the neutral stability curve. The effects of the Reynolds number, the thickness ratio and the viscosity ratio on the critical amplitude are examined. The results obtained theoretically are confirmed experimentally by using two liquid layers consisting of a light oil and aqueous glycerine.","PeriodicalId":286527,"journal":{"name":"JSME international journal : bulletin of the JSME","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1987-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126174943","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
