Iizuka","doi":"10.1299/KIKAIA.53.483","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1299/KIKAIA.53.483","url":null,"abstract":"A discussion was made on the initiation of grain-boundary fracture during creep and the toughening mechanism in heat-resisting alloys, using two kinds of continuum mechanics models which incorporated the recovery effect by diffusion of atoms. The result of the calculation based on these models was compared with that of the creep rupture tests on austenitic 21Cr-4Ni-9Mn steel. These models were than applied to the prediction of the rupture life in creep. A good correlation was found between the result of the calculation based on the models and that of the experiment. First, loop patterns composed of links with three or more kinematic pairs, which represent shapes of loops, are determined, and the kinematic graphs are obtained by allocating binary links to some edges of each loop pattern. Takimoto, Yoshinori Masuda","doi":"10.1299/kikaia.53.490","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1299/kikaia.53.490","url":null,"abstract":"The fracture strength was varied by changing an inter-grip distance (which we call a gage length here) of a sharply center-notched tensile sheet specimen of unsaturated polyester resin, where the specimen width, thickness, crack length and loading method were kept constant. The loading method is such that the main load works on a central-line parallel to the axis of loading which crosses perpendicularly the central crack length. We call this an inside loading in contrast to an outside loading (1). The number, density, area ratio of fracture surface marks vary with the fracture strength of the material. The total number of marks increases with the fracture strength. The density and area ratio marks increase at each different rate with respect to fracture strength. These results are discussed with the analytical relations of the fracture strength, the dynamic stress-intensity factor and the dynamic strain-energy-release rate by employing the reported relations. In this paper, methods which quantitatively identify the extent of the damage are developed. A V(z) characteristic which is formed as an interference between the acoustic wave reflected from the specimen and that radiated by the surface wave is utilized for the identification. A layer thermally damaged by creep feed grinding was used for this study. First it was successfully demonstrated that the extent of the damage can be graphically generated on a CRT by the respective layers from the surface to the matrix. Secondly, the transmitting velocity of the surface wave was shown to be sensitive to the extent of the damage for a material with small dissipation. But brittleness is a defect in ceramic. Therefore joining techniques between ceramic and metal are needed. We thought that shrinkage fit is one of the most avaiable techniques, compared with welding, diffusion bonding and brazing. In the previous work, we made it clear experimentally and theoretically that the existence of surface roughness reduced the strength of shrinkage fit. And the theoretical values were in good agreement with the experimental ones. But the distributions of hoop stress in the axial direction could not be calculated because the analysis was made on the basis of two-dimensional elastic theory. In this paper, the distributions of hoop stress in the axial direction wre analyzed as a three-dimensional problem. And we investigated how the distributions of hoop stress were changed by the surface roughnesses theoretically.
