So, it can be said that sufficient data to design the case hardened steel for tooth surface strength has not been published. Therefore, spur gears were tested for tooth surface strength under several lubricating conditions and several surface treatments of test gears. The tooth surface strength of case hardened gears is not so affected by the difference of the viscosity of lubricating oils, as are the tempered gears. The EP additive is effective for the tooth surface strength of case hardened gears but it is not effective for the tempered gears. The difference of the chemical structure of the lubricating oils has some effects on the surface strength of gears. The effective case depth of case hardened gears is an important factor to determine the tooth surface strength.","PeriodicalId":286527,"journal":{"name":"JSME international journal : bulletin of the JSME","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1987-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133794270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Effects of the finite Wollaston length, the over-heat ratio and the transconductance of the amplifier are taken into account, and a precise expression for the transfer function is derived. Various probes with different geometries are dynamically calibrated using the newly developed procedure, in which a linear temperature distribution or a thermal wake just behind parallel line sources is utilized to generate the prescribed temperature fluctuations over a wider frequency rage. Good agreement is obtained between the predicted and experimental results on the gain of the sensitivity. The gain increases slightly as the over-heat ratio increases, and is least affected by the transconductance. Owing to the moderate thermal inertia of the Wollaston portion, the attenuation in the gain sometimes appears in the range of energy-containing eddies.","PeriodicalId":286527,"journal":{"name":"JSME international journal : bulletin of the JSME","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1987-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125756947","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A single overload and multiple overloads were chosen as loading history. Crack growth and crack closure following the loading histories were measured at load ratios of 0.05 and 0.07. Threshold values were determined as a fatigue limit of preloaded specimens. The ΔKth values increased with increasing overload stress intensity factor (Kh). For a given Kh value, multiple overloads produced much larger increase in ΔKth than a single overload and threshold values expressed by maximum stress intensity factor (Kmax, th) were almost constant, independent of stress ratio. The results obtained were discussed in terms of crack closure behavior, and a method was proposed to evaluate the threshold value based on plasticity-induced crack closure.","PeriodicalId":286527,"journal":{"name":"JSME international journal : bulletin of the JSME","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1987-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121617654","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is assumed that every stage has a geometric distribution of up time. The measure of line efficiency is the maximum output rate from the last stage of the line in the steady state which is referred to as production rate. First, we develop in this paper a new efficient method of calculation of production rate which is suitable for applying dynamic programming approaches. Then, we propose an approximate solution method for optimal buffer allocation so as to maximize production rate applicable even to long lines with many buffer storages and a large total buffer capacity by applying dynamic programming techniques. We confirm the validity of the approach by comparing the solutions obtained by the present method with those obtained by computer simulation for many example problems.","PeriodicalId":286527,"journal":{"name":"JSME international journal : bulletin of the JSME","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1987-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127888471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
