Ia diucapkan untuk berhubung dengan alam ghaib. Tujuannya bagi mengembalikan semangat pesakit akibat gangguan makhluk halus. Kajian dilakukan di Padas Damit, Beaufort, Sabah yang telah mengamalkan kaeadah perubatan alternatif ini pada zaman dahulu. Malim berperanan menginterpretasi kandungan mantera dan mentafsirkan maksud bahasa mantera ini bagi setiap perkataan, istilah dan ungkapan ayat. Hasil kajian mendapati mantera dalam upacara barasik menjelaskan suatu penceritaan di alam dunia dengan alam ghaib. Di alam dunia telah terbentuknya struktur sosial budaya, penggunaan bahasa dan kepercayaan bagi menjelaskan pemikiran masyarakat ini pada zaman dahulu. Artikel ini akan menjelaskan maksud bahasa yang tersirat dan tersurat di sebalik ungkapan kata-kata yang terdapat dalam mantera upacara barasik. \u0000  \u0000Mantra language is an alternative medical method used by babalian through spelling poetry of rhythm in barasik ritual. It is a spell to connect with the mystical. The purpose of this ritual is to give back the patient's soul from a disturbing spirit. The study was conducted in Padas Damit, Beaufort, Sabah which this method has been used from the past. Malim's role is to interpret the content of spells and translating the mantra language in every words, terms and sentence. The result of this study found that the mantra in barasik ritual explains a story of the world with the mystical. In this world, there has been the formation of social and cultural structures, the use of language and beliefs to explain the thinking of this society in ancient times. Adegan ke-16 filem Lelaki Harapan Dunia digunakan sebagai bahan kajian. Dalam konteks penelitian ini, filem merupakan sebuah teks yang penuh makna dan multitafsir yang tersusun dari penanda dan petanda. Ia bersesuaian dengan gagasan Barthes yang mengembangkan sistem tanda Pierce kepada yang lebih luas, iaitu dua tahap signifikasi penanda dan petanda kepada detonasi, konotasi dan mitos. Denotasi adalah apa yang kita lihat melalui gambar, visual atau imej. Konotasi pula apa yang kita dapat fikirkan tentang maknanya. Oleh itu, pengkaji merumuskan masalah adalah bagaimana konstruksi makna dalam filem pilihan dihubungkan dengan analisis unsur sinematik dan semiotik. Pemilihan adegan 16 dalam filem diteliti bagi tujuan mendapatkan sistem tanda yang cuba diketengahkan oleh adegan terbabit. Kajian ini mendapati sesebuah filem yang memaparkan naratif hubungan sosial budaya tidak hanya semata-mata sebuah gambar bergerak, tetapi banyak melibatkan mesej tertentu yang cuba disampaikan menerusi sistem tanda dan makna yang perlu berhubungan dengan sosial dan realiti kehidupan manusia. Filem adalah wacana dari realiti masyarakat dan berbeza dari renungan realiti di mana filem membentuk dan menghadirkan kembali realiti berdasarkan kod, konvensyen dan ideologi dari kebudayaan. Karya filem dibangunkan dengan sistem tanda semata-mata yang merupakan simbol-simbol daripada verbal mahupun non-verbal yang memiliki makna, sama ada makna denotatif mahupun konotatif. \u0000  \u0000ABSTRACT \u0000 This study reveals the system of sign or meaning in the film through the cinematic elements such as lighting and camera work. The 16th scene of World Men Hope film is used as a study material. In the context of this research, the film is a full-text and multi-interpretative text composed of markers and markers. This is inline with a Barthes' notion of developing Pierce's signaling system to the broader two-stage signage markers and signals to detonations, connotations and myths. Detonation is what we see through the image, visual or image. The connotation is what we can think about its meaning. Therefore, the researcher formulated the following problem on how the meaning construction in the selected film is related to the analysis of cinematic and semiotic elements. Seni kraf tangan merupakan antara penyumbang terbesar dalam bidang seni di Sabah. Kraf tangan yang amat popular di Sabah ialah tenunan, ukiran, sulaman dan anyaman. Sebagai contoh, tenunan kain destar etnik Iranun berfungsi sebagai tubau atau tengkolok yang menjadi pelengkap pakaian tradisional. Kerencaman kraf tangan dan faktor asimilasi budaya yang telah berlaku ratusan tahun dahulu menyebabkan kekeliruan pemakaian, keaslian dan identiti kain destar (tubau) etnik Iranun. Hal ini berlaku kerana pemakaian tubau turut dikongsi bersama dalam semua majlis keramaian dalam kalangan pelbagai etnik sebagai pelengkap pakaian. Justeru, kajian ini diusahakan untuk menjelaskan keaslian dan identiti kain destar (tubau) etnik Iranun. Identiti dan keaslian corak tubau diperinci berdasarkan teori geometri yang membahagikan kepada tiga kategori corak iaitu a) cerminan (reflection), b) translasi (translation) dan c) putaran (rotation). Analisis data tentang kategori corak dan motif kain destar berperanan untuk memaparkan nilai budaya yang mempunyai signifikannya dengan nilai intrinsik dan pembentukan corak. Kajian ini tertumpu di dua perkampungan Iranun, iaitu Kampung Rampaian Laut dan Kampung Rampaian Ulu di daerah Kota Belud, Sabah. Data-data kajian diperoleh melalui kaedah temu bual, audio visual dan pemerhatian, selain buku, artikel, laman sesawang, surat khabar dan jurnal. Kajian ini mendapati bahawa corak dan motif tenunan tubau Iranun adalah berdasarkan representasi objek yang diilhamkan daripada alam flora, fauna, objek di sekeliling dan aktiviti harian mereka, sekali gus menjelaskan aktiviti budaya dan jati diri mereka. Kajian ini dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai ilmu pengetahuan dan rujukan untuk generasi muda. \u0000  \u0000ABSTRACT \u0000Craft art is one of the largest contributors in Sabah. Ethnic diversity in Sabah presents its own identity in terms of handicraft. The most popular handicrafts in Sabah are weaving, carving and embroidery. For example, Iranun ethnic woven destar fabrics serve as a tubau or headcover that complement the traditional clothing. The severity of craftsmanship and cultural assimilation factor took place hundreds of years ago led to the confusion of the use originality and identities of Iranun destar fabric (tubau). This is because tubau is also used in all festivals among various ethnic groups as a complement to traditional clothing. Therefore, this research was conducted to clarify the authenticity and identities of the Iranun destar fabric (tubau). The identity and originality of the tubau pattern are determined by the geometric theory which divides into three categories of a) reflection, b) translation and c) rotation. The analysis of data on the category of patterns and motifs of the destar fabric plays a role in highlighting cultural values that are significant in terms of intrinsic value and pattern formation. Kraf anyaman etnik Dusun Tindal, iaitu fokus penulisan artikel ini mempunyai kesenian dan nilai keindahan tersendiri melalui rekaan motif dan corak yang dihasilkan. Setiap motif dan corak telah diolah selaras dengan fungsinya, iaitu sebagai bahan utiliti dalam aktiviti seharian mereka. Kajian yang berasaskan kerja lapangan ini mengumpul dan menganalisis reka bentuk motif anyaman yang dikaitkan dengan signifikan warisan kearifan masyarakat etnik Dusun Tindal di daerah Kota Belud, Sabah. Hasil analisis mendapati kraf anyaman etnik Dusun Tindal mempunyai perkaitan rapat dengan pemikiran tukang krafnya dan mempengaruhi kehidupan dan kebudayaan etnik Dusun Tindal di Kota Belud. Reka bentuk dan motif anyaman tradisional dapat mencerminkan identiti budaya yang menonjolkan kesenian etnik Dusun Tindal yang diturunkan sejak zaman berzaman. Reka bentuk dan motif anyaman turut menjadi identiti warisan kearifan yang berkonsepkan geometri dan berimbangan simetri. Hasil penyelidikan ini memaparkan keistimewaan rekaan kraf anyaman tradisi etnik Dusun Tindal berdasarkan konsep kearifan dan rekaannya. \u0000  \u0000Woven craft refers to hand-crafted art from natural materials that have been created to reflect nature for utility from the creative wisdom of the people. The woven craft of the Tindal Dusun is the focus of this article as these craft(s) possess their art and beauty especially the motif designs and patterns produced. Each motif and pattern has been created in harmony with its function in their daily activities. This study, which is based on fieldwork, collects and analyzes designs of woven motifs that are significantly associated with the wisdom of the Tindal Dusun ethnic in Kota Belud, Sabah. The analysis found that the woven motifs and patterns are strongly linked with the thoughts of the craftsmen and the influences from their lifestyle in Kota Belud. The traditional designs and motifs of the woven craft also reflect the cultural identities that highlight the ethnic arts of the Tindal Dusun that were passed down from generation to generation. The patterns and motifs reflect the inherited wisdom conceptualized through geometry and symmetrical balance. Di samping itu, teori fungsionalisme dijadikan asas untuk merungkai peranan wanita sebagai Dayung Boris. Analisis yang dilakukan juga akan mendokumentasikan prosedur dan tatacara ritual dalam upacara tersebut. Artikel ini dapat memberi pemahaman tentang gerak dan makna dalam ritual boris serta menerangkan kepentingan peranan wanita dalam masyarakat Bidayuh di Sarawak. \u0000  \u0000ABSTRACT \u0000This article discusses the movement and meaning in boris ritual, Bidayuh in Sarawak, including the role of women which is appointed as Dayung Boris to cater to the lifestyle and beliefs of ethnic Bidayuh people. The Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) method was used to analyse the core of the movements performed in the boris ritual. In summation, the functionalism theory applied as an approach for dismantling the role of women as Dayung Boris. The analysis will also document the procedures of rituals in the ceremony. Pengaruh asimilasi budaya dan fenomena kehidupan moden yang sentiasa berubah secara tidak langsung mempengaruhi penampilan berpakaian daripada tradisional kepada kontemporari sifatnya. Pada masa kini, busana tradisional lazimnya dapat dilihat dalam majlis perkahwinan, persembahan tarian dan upacara ritual. Identiti busana perkahwinan masyarakat Bisaya di Sabah dikenal pasti melalui penggunaan istilah, bentuk dan ragam hias mengikut citra dan dogma budaya. Kajian busana ini ditumpukan khusus di perkampungan masyarakat Bisaya di Beaufort, Sabah. Data-data kajian membantu pengkaji untuk mendokumentasi dan menganalisis elemen bentuk dan ragam hias yang menitipkan representasi identiti dan budaya dalam etnik berkenaan. Makna tentang subjek, bentuk dan ragam hias selanjutnya diperoleh melalui bentuk simbol sebagai asas penghayatan seni melalui kaedah pemerhatian, temu bual dan rakaman audio visual di lapangan. Kajian ini mendapati elemen bentuk dan ragam hias busana perkahwinan adalah gambaran artistik melalui representasi budaya, adat istiadat dan alam sekeliling. Justeru, bentuk dan ragam hias busana perkahwinan masyarakat Bisaya di Sabah dapat dikaitkan dengan kehidupan tipikal dan warisan budaya yang diwarisi semenjak turun-temurun. \u0000  \u0000Traditional costumes of ethnics in Sabah were representing the variety of fashion, form and ornament design which reflect the identity and cultural values. The influence of cultural assimilation and the modern life phenomenon that constantly changing from time to time indirectly affecting the dressed appearance from traditional to contemporary fashion. Nowadays, traditional costume still can be seen in a wedding ceremony, dance performance and ritual ceremony. The Bisaya’s wedding costume identity in Sabah can be identified by its terms of the costume and the parts, the form and also the design based on the cultural imagery and beliefs. The research location of the costume is focusing on the settlement of the Bisaya community. The research data assist the researcher to do the documentations and analysis of the form and design elements which representing the identity and cultural aspects of Bisaya. The interpretation of the subject, form and design were obtained by the symbols as the basis of art appreciation through observation, interview and audio visual recording at the research location. This research found that the form and design elements of wedding costume are describing the artistic through culture, custom and tradition, and the environments representation. Sedikit demi sedikit mantera kearifan tradisi ini ditinggalkan, menyebabkan ujaran yang dipercayai mempunyai kuasa magis ini tidak dipelihara untuk pemahaman generasi muda. Kajian ini memberi perhatian pada makna dan fungsi pironok dalam kalangan masyarakat Dusun di Kota Marudu dan Kudat, Sabah. Pengumpulan data yang menggunakan pedoman wawancara dan perakaman dimanipulasikan dengan bantuan informan. Hasil kajian menunjukkan pironok mempunyai tujuh fungsi. Ilmu pironok membantu memberikan keyakinan dalaman kepada pemimpin, menyemai taat setia rakyat kepada pemimpin, mendamaikan pertelingkahan, membantu melicinkan tugasan kepimpinan, sebagai kaedah dan sistem perancangan keamanan, mengajar ahli-ahli untuk saling menghormati dan menyemai sikap saling menyayangi sesama ahli masyarakat. Hasil kajian ini juga memberi maklumat tentang peranan ilmu pironok dalam sistem sosial masyarakat Dusun tradisional. Pironok membantu membangunkan ketamadunan tradisional masyarakat Dusun dengan cara melicinkan tugasan harian insan dalam memimpin ahli kumpulannya. Pada masa yang sama, mereka berkewajipan menjaga kerukunan beragama dan bermasyarakat agar pengamal dan bukan pengamal mantera dapat hidup berdampingan, selaras dan harmonis. \u0000  \u0000ABSTRACT \u0000The pironok knowledge is now forgotten by the new leaders of the Dusun Kimaragang tribe as a result of educated and religious life. Bit by bit this mantra of traditional wisdom is abandoned, causing the utterance believed to have a magical power not preserved for the comprehension of the younger generation. This study focuses on the meaning and function of pironok among the Dusun community in Kota Marudu and Kudat, Sabah. Data collection using interviews and recording guidelines is manipulated with the help of informants. Findings showed that pironok had seven functions. Pironok’s knowledge helps to provide insight to the leader, to instill loyalty to the leader, to reconcile arguments, to help ensure leadership tasks, as a means and system of peace planning, teaching members for mutual respect, and cultivating mutual affection for the fellow members community. The results of this research also provide information on the role of pironok knowledge in the social system of the traditional Dusun community. Pironok helps to develop the traditional civilization of the Dusun community by facilitating the daily tasks of the people in leading their group members. Data lain disokong dengan kajian kes terhadap pelajar Tingkatan Dua Agama Satu (2A1) dan Tingkatan Dua Agama Dua (2A2) di Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Dato’ Syed Ahmad, Kuala Nerang, Kedah. Data-data penyelidikan yang bersifat kualitatif dianalisis menerusi pembinaan instrumen senarai semak pencerapan PdPc, temu bual tidak berstruktur dan soal selidik. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa penggunaan kaedah Teater Membaca memberi impak yang positif dalam aspek pengajaran dan pembelajaran. Selain itu, kaedah ini dapat menarik minat pelajar tanpa terikat dan tidak memberi tekanan kepada pelajar. Hasil kajian menunjukkan kaedah Teater Membaca sesuai digunakan sebagai medium dalam kaedah pengajaran oleh guru sebagai alat bantu mengajar. Analisis terhadap penggunaan kaedah Teater Membaca dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran menunjukkan Teater Membaca dapat meningkatkan kefahaman pelajar terhadap naskhah drama yang bertajuk Hemodialisis. Secara tidak langsung, kaedah Teater Membaca melahirkan pelajar yang kreatif dan inovatif seperti hasrat yang terkandung dalam Falsafah Pendidikan Kebangsaan. Implikasi kajian ini dapat dimanfaatkan oleh mana-mana pemegang taruh, khususnya Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia (KPM) agar menyarankan guru-guru subjek Sastera di Malaysia menggunakan kaedah Teater Membaca dalam PdPc sebagai satu wadah pembelajaran interaktif dan menjana minda pelajar dalam menghayati naskhah dengan lebih kreatif. \u0000  \u0000ABSTRACT \u0000This research aims to study the use of Reader’s Theatre method and the impact towards teaching and facilitating in the classroom. The objective of this research is to analyze the effectiveness of teaching and facilitating drama through Reader’s Theatre method. The research data used was from a form two drama book entitled Hemodialisis. Other data were supported by case studies of form two (2A1) and form two (2A2) at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Dato’ Syed Ahmad, Kuala Nerang, Kedah. Qualitative research data were analyzed through teaching and facilitating observation checklist, unstructured interviews and questionnaires. The results show that the level used for Reader’s Theatre method has a positive impact on the teaching and learning aspects. Furthermore, this method can attract students’ interest without being bounded and do not pressure the students. The results show that Reader’s Theatre method is best used as a medium in teaching by teachers as their teaching aids. Further analysis of Reader’s Theatre methods in teaching and learning shows that Reader’s Theatre was able to enhance student’s understanding of the drama book entitled Hemodialisis. Pakaian tradisional etnik golongan lelaki Rungus dikenali sebagai badu’- masap yang dipakai dalam upacara ritual, manakala pakaian mogah dipakai oleh penari lelaki. Pakaian tradisional golongan perempuan pula terdiri daripada pakaian banat-tapi’ yang dipakai dalam upacara ritual bersama-sama dengan pakaian sukolob. Kajian ini ditumpukan pada pakaian badu’-masap dan banat-tapi’. Tumpuan analisis adalah terhadap elemen estetika dari segi reka bentuk dan motif yang dipaparkan. Data-data penyelidikan ini diperoleh melalui kajian lapangan dengan menggunakan kaedah pemerhatian, temu bual dan rakaman audio visual. Analisis kajian adalah berdasarkan pendekatan estetika yang diperkenalkan oleh Beardsley (1975) dan Vitruvius (1960). Pendekatan estetika ini merumuskan elemen harmoni, kesatuan dan imbangan sebagai indikator yang penting. Kajian ini mendapati elemen estetika dalam pakaian tradisional masyarakat Rungus dapat dikategorikan berdasarkan reka bentuk motif organik dan geometri. Seterusnya, elemen estetika didominasi oleh unsur flora, fauna, alam sekeliling dan kosmos. Reka bentuk dan motif pakaian tradisional etnik ini dapat dikaitkan dengan aktiviti kehidupan mereka. \u0000ABSTRACT \u0000Sabah traditional ethnic costumes are unique in design and motif as it reflects their cultural values. Rungus men’s traditional ethnic clothing is known as the ‘badu’-masap’ used in ritual ceremonies while the â€˜mogah’ costume is worn by male dancers. The traditional costumes of the women folk are called ‘banat-tapi’ usually worn in ritual ceremonies with the ‘sukolob’. This study focuses on the ‘badu’-masap’ and ‘banat-tapi’ costumes especially on the aesthetic elements in terms of the design and motifs on the material used to make these costumes. These research data were obtained through field studies using observation, interview and audiovisual recording methods. The analysis of the study was based on the aesthetic approach introduced by Beardsley (1975) and Vitruvius (1960). This aesthetic approach summarizes the elements of harmony, unity and balance as an important indicator. This study found that the aesthetic elements in traditional clothes of the Rungus community can be categorized based on the design of organic and geometric motifs. Furthermore, the aesthetic elements are influenced by elements of flora, fauna, the environment and the cosmos. Penggunaan elemen beat bertujuan meningkatkan tahap intensiti adegan-adegan yang boleh menarik perhatian audiens untuk menonton sesebuah filem aksi. Intensiti yang tinggi dalam adegan aksi contohnya akan menimbulkan emosi keterujaan dan cemas pada audiens. Analisis beat yang mempengaruhi tahap intensiti babak dua filem aksi ini dan menggunakan pendekatan Blake Snyder’s (2005) yang memperkenalkan elemen beat sheet. Elemen beat tersebut terdiri daripada opening image, theme stated, set up, catalyst, debate, break into two, b-story, fun & games, mid point, bad guys close in, all is lost, dark night of the soul, break into three, finale dan final image. Elemen beat Blake Snyder ini bertujuan menjadikan aliran penceritaan sesebuah filem aksi itu lebih menarik dan tidak membosankan. Selain itu, artikel ini akan membincangkan elemen stail atau bahasa filem yang digunakan oleh pengarah untuk memvisualisasikan adegan tersebut. Stail seperti penggunaan audio, syot, teknik penyuntingan dan aspek mis-en-scene juga akan menjadikan intensiti penceritaan sesebuah filem aksi lebih tinggi dan menjadikan struktur penceritaan sesebuah filem aksi hebat dan menarik perhatian audiens untuk menonton.  \u0000ABSTRACTThis study reveals the importance of beat elements in the second half of the confrontation in the action movie, \"Polis Evo\" (2015). The use of beat elements is aimed at increasing the intensity of the scenes which can increase the adrenaline of the audience when watching an action movie. A high and more intense beat in action scenes, for example, will lead to higher levels of emotional excitement and anxiety of the audience. Beat analysis affects the stage intensity of an action movie as demonstrated by Blake Snyder’s (2005) approach which he introduced the beat sheet element. The beat element consists of opening image, theme, set up, catalyst, debate, division, story, fun and games, mid-point, antagonist attack, “all is lost”, “dark night of the soul,” “three parts,” finale and final image. Blake Snyder’s beat element is aimed at making the storytelling more exciting for audiences. Additionally, this article will discuss the style element or movie language used by the director to visualize the scene.
