Based on a literature review and practical research, a uniform intervention manual was developed: the Papageno Music Therapy Program (PMTP). This was then tested incrementally to obtain indications of effectiveness and active elements. The evidence gathered provides insight into what happens during music therapy. Based on this, an initial working model was developed. In addition, it gives indications of the effectiveness of the treatment and shows what the use of music therapy can mean to an child with ASD. The PMTP is ready to be applied in practice and can be further substantiated and researched.","PeriodicalId":283749,"journal":{"name":"Wetenschappelijk Tijdschrift Autisme","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123697770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years, GPs have made greater use of the expertise of mental health nurse practitioners. This study examined the extent of knowledge of mental health nurse practitioners about ASD in girls and women and their preferences for more information or education about the topic. The results of seven semi-structured interviews with mental health nurse practitioners indicate that the level of knowledge varied, but that in general knowledge of ASD and social communication, camouflaging techniques and intelligence level corresponds with what is known from literature. Less was known about the relationship between ASD and comorbid problems and the extent to which girls and women with ASD have special interests and can make eye contact. Information provision should therefore focus on these issues. This can be done through webinars, authorities in the field of ASD and articles and books, in which short information overviews were preferred.","PeriodicalId":283749,"journal":{"name":"Wetenschappelijk Tijdschrift Autisme","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130216416","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These social communication difficulties make it challenging for clinicians to distinguish selective mutism from autism. Historically, selective mutism and autism could not be formally classifi ed side by side. Currently, however, there is a debate about whether these classifications can co-occur. This raises questions for clinical practice, such as what this means for the diagnostic and treatment process. In this review we will discuss these issues based on recent literature, and we will provide clinicians with recommendations for clinical practice.","PeriodicalId":283749,"journal":{"name":"Wetenschappelijk Tijdschrift Autisme","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122611719","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To improve our understanding of the process of identity development within autistic people, interviews were conducted with n=14 participants. Participants narrated about how their conceptualization of their ‘self’ had evolved over time, the challenges of subsequently authentically presenting this ‘self' in social settings, the necessities and requirements for fitting in, and their search for meaning. Potential avenues to aid identity development in autistic people include: facilitating learning opportunities, regarding autism as a positive social identity, asserting one’s authentic ‘self’ as a result of mutual trust, and taking concrete actions towards self-realisation. In a follow-up project, these avenues will be combined into an integrated approach bringing together initiatives that aid identity development in autistic/neurodivergent people.","PeriodicalId":283749,"journal":{"name":"Wetenschappelijk Tijdschrift Autisme","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114698243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Besides support for clients, we offer a group module for partners. This module was developed by the Dutch Organization for Autism and the department autism of the mental health institution in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, and has been adjusted for elderly patients. We explored the effects of the partner module in a pre-post-follow-up design. After participating the partners reported more knowledge on ASD, better recognition of ASD in their partner, recognition in other partners, less psychiatric distress and improvement in self-esteem. An adjustment of the module is proposed in the discussion.","PeriodicalId":283749,"journal":{"name":"Wetenschappelijk Tijdschrift Autisme","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129070203","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The historical changes in the period of 1960-2020 were investigated on the basis of seven factors, including the age of diagnosis, intelligence and type of diagnostician. The data are derived from participants (n = 2643) of the Dutch Autism Register (NAR: Nederlands Autisme Register), a longitudinal register, in which people with autism are followed over time. They were divided into cohorts based on the decade between 1960 and 2020 in which they were diagnosed. All participants whose birthday and age of diagnosis age were eligible for the study. The most important changes concern the age of diagnosis and the increase in the number of women with ASD. In addition, the concept of diagnosis has been broadened significantly. Autism is a classification of behavioural characteristics and is a part of a broad diagnostic process necessary for responsible counselling and treatment.","PeriodicalId":283749,"journal":{"name":"Wetenschappelijk Tijdschrift Autisme","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121544676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cooperation with parents is an important factor in the parents’ satisfaction with the care process. The role that the personal frame of reference of parents can play in the way in which the social worker can best fit in was explored. This personal frame of reference has been operationalized in this research in the form of expectations (practical, critical or existential) and decision preferences (delegating or autonomous). The profiles drawn up on this basis can serve as guidelines in counselling parents. In the results section, the profiles are applied to various case descriptions and a description is given of what the parents think is needed from the counsellor. The conclusion of the study is that it is useful to divide parents into these profiles. It is recommended that an instrument be developed that allows the social worker to discuss the personal frame of reference of parents and provides tools to connect to it.","PeriodicalId":283749,"journal":{"name":"Wetenschappelijk Tijdschrift Autisme","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128527605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Enkele jaren geleden hebben John Donvan en Caren Zucker in hun boek Autisme. De vele gezichten van een stoornis (2017) een uitputtend overzicht van de geschiedenis van autisme gegeven, waarbij ze laten zien dat het begrip ‘autisme’ steeds complexer is geworden. Ook maken de auteurs duidelijk dat autisme niet los gezien kan worden van de manier waarop we over onszelf nadenken. Autisme en daarmee mensen met autisme confronteren ons met de vanzelfsprekendheden in de waarneming van de wereld, in het bijzonder de sociale wereld. Waar het maken en onderhouden van sociale contacten vaak vanzelf lijkt te gaan, daar hapert het in de omgang met mensen met autisme. Dat is veelal ook het eerste wat ouders van autistische kinderen ervaren: het ‘normale’ sociale contact lijkt maar niet van de grond te komen, wellicht een van de redenen waarom we gemakkelijk de kwalificatie ‘vreemd’ toekennen aan de autist en zijn/haar wereld.","PeriodicalId":283749,"journal":{"name":"Wetenschappelijk Tijdschrift Autisme","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114943182","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
