In this resonator, a modified fractal “Sierpinski gasket” of three iterations was applied. Fractal elements “Sierpinski gasket” were made on a suspended dielectric substrate. The frequency spectrum of the resonator was investigated in the range from 10 to 40 GHz. The calculation of the main electrodynamic parameters of the resonator - resonant frequency, characteristic impedance, unloaded Qo factor - was made. Small wavelength of the field compared with the computational area dimensions makes such simulation methods as finite difference, finite elements, and method of moments ineffective. The quasi-optical methods, in particular, the ray-tracing method and the uniform theory of diffraction, are more efficient in this case. A complex aperture is a combination of complementary split ring resonators (CSRRs) and a Koch fractal. The calculation of cutoff wave numbers and the components of electromagnetic fields expressions for have been carried out by the partial regions method, taking into account the features of the electromagnetic field on metal ridges. The basis of our approach is the principle of electrodynamic equivalence of a radiating and scattering body. Long-term reliability tests of space-based TWTs with such a cathode in forced mode showed that the proposed design and manufacturing technology of metal-porous cathodes can increase their operating time in the TWT without loss of emissivity up to 3.106 hours. We used Ansoft HFSS to simulate waveguide filters with a forbidden frequency band. The results obtained showed that a magnetic wall made of periodic various sized unit cells can provide several forbidden frequency bands instead of only one in case of single sized elements.
